Monday Morning Assembly

A Message to the Parents Dear Peponi House Parents, I hope you are all safe and well. It has been very good to see everyone picking up successfully with the online learning from where we left off prior to half term. I hope you all found some time to rest over the holiday. I understand that there is disappointment around our not returning to school, although I expect spirits will pick up as we get back into the swing of things and we are all reminded of the positive online experiences available. Please remember that it is important that the children have a good working space and that they wear uniform etc. The greater the discipline that can be brought to bear, the greater the rewards I expect. On Monday 2nd November it is currently our intention to re-open our school for Year 8 pupils. This follows the present Government guidelines, although it of course remains possible that those guidelines might change and that we might not be able to open. If that happens we will let Year 8 parents know soonest. Perhaps this will be a precursor to our opening for other Years? It will certainly give us valuable experience as we prepare for that possibility. At present opening for other Year Groups is not within the Government’s guidelines although that may change. The online teaching and learning will continue as it is now for everyone other than Year 8. Although we are disappointed that we have been unable to re-open school for everyone, we can console ourselves in that the online educational experience for Peponi pupils has been and will continue to be successful. Thanks again for all your help in that respect. The clattering and banging continues outside my window as the finishing touches are put to the new buildings. School is about so much more that buildings but these developments will bring an exciting new dimension to our school. They illustrate a keen sense of purpose and an exciting future. During these difficult times it is good to remember that we will emerge from the current challenges and face the world with a renewed sense of freedom and a fresh determination to make the most of the wonderful opportunities we have. Perhaps most importantly too, we will come through with a deeper appreciation of our families, our friends and our communities. With very best wishes, Yours sincerely, Neil Price

Our Pepo

We are very proud to announce that we Congratulations to Mr. Kenned who were honoured It was a day of great pride for the Obuya family on Mashujaa day this year when Mr. Obuya was honored as one of the countries heroes. Mr. Obuya was a punishing right hand batsman and a reliable wicket keeper. He appeared in not one, not two, but THREE cricket World Cups. How can one forget the historic 2003 campaign where Kenya surprised the world by reaching the semi finals. The epic win over Sri Lanka by 53 runs at the Nairobi Gymkhana will live long in the memories of Kenyans. Mr. Obuya scored 60 in that match. Mr. Obuya had a professional stint in Australia and came back home to coach at Peponi House Preparatory. In addition, he formed the Obuya Cricket Academy with his siblings, the first indigenous academy of its kind in the country. He also served as the treasurer of Cricket Kenya until May this year when his term ended. The Peponi House community is privileged to have a quality coach, dedicated professional and true Kenyan Shujaa in our midst. Congratulations once again to Mr. Obuya. Shujaa wa Kenya.

e have two Heroes in our Peponi family. dy Obuya and Mr. Levi Wataka d on Mashujaa Day. It was also a very proud day for Levi Wataka, the Musical Director of the Kenya National Youth Orchestra. Levi Wataka has participated with the Nairobi Orchestra for more than 16 years and now serves on the orchestra committee and as principal resident conductor. He regularly conducts the Nairobi Music Society Choir, where he has been a member for 20 years. Levi is currently the Musical Director with the National Youth Orchestra of Kenya and the Nairobi Children’s Orchestra and conducts the Safaricom Youth Orchestra Levi has recently completed a national diploma in Early Childhood Development and Education, and spends some time pursuing this through the Muziki Changa music programme for infants and toddlers. He works closely with Art of Music Foundation initiatives, including Ghetto Classics and ‘Link-Up’ and the Lenana School music programme among others. Ghetto Classics uses music education to provide the youth with opportunities to better themselves and their community by instilling in them the life skills that come with the discipline of studying music. The programme also provides them with income generating opportunities. Congratulations to Levi Wataka. Shujaa wa Kenya.
