A letter to our

Peponi family Monday Morning Assembly Dear Peponi House, It has been great to be back in school this term. Just seeing everyone has been a pleasure; seeing everyone working hard and enjoying their work and play has been even better.

Or current situation is a very unusual one. Never before have children across the World had to be educated online and then experience an adjusted version of school life when able to return. We have all had to learn the mantra around social distancing, wearing masks, hand washing and fresh air. I am sat in my office with all the windows open and a mask on, as I am sure many of you are. (I must remember to remove the mask!)

Yet despite all of this we have watched our young people grow and thrive. Life has not stopped.

Personal and family safety has never been more embedded in our lives. Given the dangers, people have taken extra care and sought to make life as safe as possible. Caution has been our partner. Ingenuity, determination and resilience has allowed us to cope with everything that has come our way.

We currently anticipate being back in school on Tuesday April 27th and we look forward to that. If we need to stay online for a little while extra, we will be ready for that too. If we are back in school, we will continue to follow our covid safety arrangements and all that entails: staggered arrivals and departures, distancing, washing, ventilation, cleaning, masks and the myriad of other small adjustments. The care that everyone takes within this framework is the key to its success. I have been very impressed by people’s versatility and stoicism so far, both in school and online, and we will reinforce afresh, messages around a ‘culture of care’.

There have been specific highlights this term – the poety recitals, Scholarship awards and certainly some exciting sports on the field and races on the track. Simply having something that resembles normal school life back has been the most special thing: Children enjoying time with their friends and responding to the stimulation in the classroom; teachers and pupils interacting with obvious relish; a community coming alive. We have much to be thankful for and much to look forward to. Enjoy the rest over Easter – the new term, and of course the rest of the Rains, are not far away!

Chef Ali’s Easter Recipe HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE BALLS Ingredients: 11/2 Tbsp Cocoa powder 11/2 Tbsp desiccated coconut 1¼ cups crushed digestive biscuits ¼ cup condensed milk ¼ cup milk Dark cooking chocolate Rainbow sprinkles Directions: 1. Mix all the ingredients apart from dark chocolate and the sprinkles, mould into balls keep aside.

2. In a bowl melt the chocolate and dip the balls placing them one by one on baking paper on a platter.

3. Sprinkle the rainbow sprinkles on top and chill in the fridge for a few mins.

What have you been up to?

Monday Morning Assembly Vinya’s Tree Planting Vinya went to the Ngong Forest to plant trees with Dr. Monica and the children from Diamond Junior School Nairobi.

Vinya and her mum planted 10 trees to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Shashwat’s Golf Update The final kick-off to the Safari Tour for professional golfers from Africa started on 21st Feb till 24th Feb. The hosts are Karen Country Club. Safari Tour is part of Magical Kenya, Kenya Tourism Board. The is held in 7-8 clubs across Kenya and then a few in East Africa.

On 20th Feb 144 members were given an opportunity to play with Pros as three members were teamed up with a pro to form a 4-ball team.

Four juniors were selected amongst the 144 and Shashwat was the youngest junior to play the Pro-Am competition and with the lowest handicap.
