Objectives of the new model...

PRODUCTIVE COMMUNITY Through the project the new model can achieve its main objectives, one of the principal objective is to create a productive community, which will help to strengthen different aspects of the gastronomic culture of Ensenada, for example: make aware of the products that are consumed and its process, to appreciate the agricultural work, to include in the productive process locals, foreigners and society in general.

In addition, not only the productive community can have access to the consumption of harvested products, but also there will be a direct connection with consumers outside the agricultural area.

As a consequence, consumers can be part of the process and gastronomic culture even when they did not work such products but are aware of the work involved in having the final product.

COMPACITY In the last 10 years Ensenada and its annual population growth increases with the passage of time, in the specific case of Valle de Guadalupe, the annual percentage of urban area growth is higher than in the city of Ensenada because the main attraction of this area is the production of wine

NATURAL

RESOURCES

This aspect is based on the compacity point.

The new model seeks to preserve natural resources to achieve potential gastronomic culture in Ensenada. The location of the project was chosen strategically based on natural runoff and current vegetation.

The main reasons for such housing growth are: wine growing area, contact with nature. For this reason, compacity is one of the main objectives of the “Valle3� project, which will help to preserve and take care of the natural resources of the area, it also encourages decent, productive and sustainable housing.

The purpose of the project is serving as a point of reference for the future development of the global food industry, the project will combine urban density with agricultural test fields.

The master plan of the project consists of three main elements: the Lawn, a central community green space, the Strip, the main street of AFP and the Plazas, which will connect groups of buildings, each with individual neighborhood identities.

Five areas of focus have been identified to improve the area through the new expansion: healthy materials, clean energy, increased biovesity, clean air and clean water.

Staff per hectare

In the following diagram, the necessary staff to work the agricultural areas is explained. It is well known that the number of staff is not directly proportional to the number of hectares to work, for example: in the first case, which is half a hectare, 3 people are needed because it is difficult to have machinery, which is profitable for such agricultural square meters. For this reason, in the case of 110 hectares, the necessary staff is smaller since they have machinery that helps the workforce.

An average number of personnel was made for lands that are between 5 and 20 hectares.

Architectural design Activities by area

Valle3 considered the users and their activities as a protagonist in the selection and definition of the spaces. For this reason, in each of the areas the combination of the new activities that the project offers to the different users was established.

Through the diagram it can be seen that the area with the most activities involved is the agricultural area since the main objective of Valle3 is to promote a pleasant enviroment in a productive community.

Proposed Users

Not only the new activities are the protagonists in Valle3, also the new users take relevance in the project proposal.

As part of the productive community, complete families, administrative employees, foreigners, agricultural workers have the opportunity to be part of the food process, as well as generate products for their own consumption.

Each of the users can choose between being a resident or just using Valle3 for work or learning hours.

Guiding axes

The following guiding physical axes were mapped based on water (natural runoff, topography and water catchment) and trees whose size predominates in the existing vegetation. Each of the trees helped determine the zoning of the architectural program, in addition to having as a premise the trees for zoning, climatic aspects and natural conditions of the land and the area were also considered.

Water captation

Valle3 physically relied on natural water runoff since the conditions of such a natural resource in Valle de Guadalupe is scarce.

The land of the project is located between three important natural runoff, so the water catchment area was located at the intersection of two of them. It was sought to be responsible with such a natural condition: no buildings are less than 15 meters from the runoff.

WATER CAPTATION The capacity of the water catchment area is directly proportional to the number of hectares of crops, as well as the number of people who will live in Valle3.

The total capacity is 120,000 liters, which is considered the initial irrigation of the area of cultivation, the weekly irrigation (it was considered an average irrigation), as well as a reserve.

Wetlands function

Wetlands are areas that are saturated by surface or groundwater with a frequency. They have waters with depths less than 60 cm. The vegetationprovides surfaces for the formation of bacterial films, facilitates filtration and absorption of wastewater components, allows the transfer of oxygen to the water column and controls the growth of algae.

The most important aspects to consider for the construction of the wetlands are basically, the waterproofing of the subsurface layer of the land, the selection and placement of the granular means for the case of SFS systems, the establishment of the vegetation, and finally the entry and exit structures.

ganisms including bacteria, yeasts, fungi, and protozoa. The microbial biomass consumes a large part of the organic carbon and many nutrients.

The greatest benefit of plants is: transfer of oxygen to the root zone. Its physical presence in the system (stems, roots and rhizomes) allows penetration to the ground or support medium and transports oxygen more deeply.

The water level is on the surface of the land; the vegetation is planted and fixed and emerges on the surface of the water; the water flow is mainly superficial.

There is an average to determine the number of square meters required per user. Such average considers 20 m2 for each user.

It grows quickly, it is suitable for artificial wetlands.

The rhizomes of this plant can produce a dense cover in less than a year.

SCIRPUS

They are perennial and grow in groups. The desirable temperature for this type of plants is between 16 and 27 degrees Celsius. The separations between plants are 0.3 m and their growth occurs in less than a year.

Ground profiles

“El Valle de Guadalupe” is characterized by a landscape between hills and mountains. One of the peculiarities of this valley is that the mountains are distinguished by having a coppery red color, while in the plains it is a grayish color.

In the following image the layers contained in each of Valle de Guadalupe’s soil profiles are explained in detail; in both cases the soils are suitable for agriculture. Among the factors that allow the soil to be of agricultural type are: altitude of 32º N (ensures light abudante), wet winters, winds and breeze from the sea (allows relative humidity greater than 60%)
