Pentacle Theatre is grateful to The Lulay Group for their generous sponsorship, the contribution of a much-needed truck to support our Pentacle community. "Our family businesses supporting Pentacle and our community."

Although You Can’t Take It With You was written in 1936, this nearly 90-year-old play feels surprisingly modern—perhaps even more relevant today. At its heart is the Vanderhof household, a family that has made a radical choice: to live with joy, curiosity, and enthusiasm, unapologetically and on their own terms. Grandpa’s philosophy is wonderfully simple—life is meant to be lived, not postponed, collected, or endlessly worried over.
In contrast, the Kirby family represents a more conventional path, one driven by rules, appearances, and “success.” The collision between these two worlds is both hilarious and deeply familiar, and it has inspired countless stories since. You can see echoes of this clash in films like Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Meet the Parents, and The Birdcage—all comedies built around what happens when families with very different values are forced to sit at the same table.
Kaufman and Hart had a unique gift for celebrating individuality while gently poking fun at the structures we build around ourselves. The fact that this play has delighted audiences for nearly 90 years is proof that its message endures: happiness doesn’t come from money, status, or approval—it comes from doing what you love and surrounding yourself with people who let you be exactly who you are.
My hope is that you leave tonight having laughed a lot, felt a little nostalgia, and taken away just a bit of Grandpa’s wisdom. Because in the end, you really can’t take it with you…so you might as well enjoy the ride.

Pentacle Theatre in Salem is located within the ancestral homelands of the Kalapuya, Yamhill, and Luckiamute people who have lived here since time immemorial.
In the 1850s, these tribes were displaced by colonization and were eventually resettled on reservations. We celebrate and honor the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz members, their resilience, and their present and future right to this land.

The family and friends of Alice Mary Norton honor her longtime commitment to Pentacle Theatre by sponsoring this production.
Alice began volunteering at Pentacle in 1985 and immediately fell under its spell. Over the next 35 years, she was involved in a wide range of theater support roles including building sets, stage management, sound, lights, props, play reading, and fundraising as the long-time Benefits Chairperson. She was also a familiar face to many as the cheerful lady in the jaunty hat who delivered Pentacle posters to businesses around town.
Alice’s dedication and accomplishments were acknowledged in 1994 as the first recipient of the Claytene Vick Volunteer of the Year Award. In 2014, she was selected to be a Pentacle Lifetime Member.
Alice loved volunteering and being part of the Pentacle family. So, from her family and friends to you, we hope you enjoy all that live community theatre has to offer, and if you’re not doing so already, please consider volunteering in the future.

A scholarship honoring her decades of volunteer service is available to anyone who has volunteered time or efforts to Pentacle Theatre in the past 12 months. The volunteer is eligible to apply directly for themselves or on behalf of a designated recipient who does not have to be related to the volunteer.
The scholarship is available to area high school and home-schooled students or to adults applying for continuing education in any field.
The deadline for applications is Feb 28, 2026. A link to the application is available at https://pentacletheatre.org/scholarships/

Scott returned to the Salem area in 2020 after spending most of the previous 40 years living in Los Angeles. At Pentacle, Scott has been seen in It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, The Prom, at The Elsinore in A Little Night Music: In Concert, and was last seen as Wilbur Turnblad in Pentacle’s Hairspray. He also directed Terra Nova in 2022 and designed the makeup for 2023’s Shrek, The Musical Prior to 2020, Scott taught makeup and acting and directed plays as a faculty member at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Hollywood since 1985. He has been the makeup designer at Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Fright Fest event in Los Angeles since 1992. He appeared on Season 5 of the Syfy television series Face/Off. He designed makeup for numerous productions at The Old Globe in San Diego, including the world premiere of Meteor Shower by Steve Martin and Camp David with Richard Thomas.
He and his amazing wife, Barbara, celebrated their 40th anniversary this past May!
Lisa Hallam Closner Assistant Director

Lisa is happy to be involved once again at Pentacle Theatre! In the early 80's, her favorite roles were in Grease, Oklahoma, and Lil' Abner. Recently, she helped with set/props for Arsenic and Old Lace and In-laws, Outlaws, and Other People (That Should Be Shot). Lisa owns an online theater education business called PLACES, PLEASE! Theatre.
Carrie Hare Assistant Director

Carrie’s past Pentacle experience includes serving as assistant director on Beauty and the Beast. She was also the assistant director of Into the Woods. She and her husband have six children, ages 10 to 23. She has a wonderful extended family, who are lucky, eccentric people, just like the Sycamores. She worked as a high school special education teacher and has been a member of the best book club west of the Mississippi for 17 years.

Mustard in Clue, Arthur Birling in An Inspector Calls, Chris Bean (The Director) in The Play That Goes Wrong, Malvolio in Twelfth Night, and Henry in The Fantasticks. He will be making his directorial debut this summer, directing Rumors for Pentacle. Other shows in the valley include Flute/ Thisby in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Antigonus in The Winter’s Tale for Struts & Frets Theatre Co., and Gloucester in Majestic Theatre’s Wars of the Roses. Some of his favorite roles include Atticus Finch, Sherlock Holmes, Ebenezer Scrooge, John Barrymore, William Gillette, Judas, and God. He appears briefly in the Reese Witherspoon film, Wild, and can also be seen on Grimm and Leverage. He has performed at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Cleveland Play House, and the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival, among others. But he is most proud of his wife of 40 years, Laurie, his two daughters, Sheena and Halley, and his grandson, Jayden.
Pamela Bilderbeck
Penny Sycamore

Pamela is delighted to work with Scott Ramp again in this wonderful, zany play. She recently played Miss Furnival in Black Comedy and Martha in Scott Ramp's production of Arsenic and Old Lace. Some of her favorite roles at Pentacle include Annette in God of Carnage, Ruth in Blithe Spirit, Mrs. Van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank, and LaVonda in Sordid Lives. When not on stage, Pamela can be found investigating critical incidents at the Oregon State Hospital or working in her pollinator garden. She thanks you for supporting live theater!

Barbara Blackwell Ramp is an actor making her second appearance with Pentacle Theatre, having previously appeared in It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play.
She trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles and has performed in a range of classic and contemporary works, including Macbeth, And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little, Picnic, Chamber Music, and Fifth of July Barbara is drawn to character-driven stories and ensembles where listening is just as important as speaking, a skill she continues to refine with every production. She has especially enjoyed working with this exceptionally talented and fun cast! When she is not onstage, she is an oil painting artist, a lover of quirky fashion, and the owner of a special effects makeup business with her husband, Scott Ramp, the director of this production, which means rehearsals technically end, but the notes do not.

Natisha Fenley is a Columbia College Chicago graduate with a major in Music Performance. She is excited to make her debut with Pentacle Theatre. With a strong background in musical and performance training, Natisha is grateful for the opportunity to bring her passion for the arts to this production and looks forward to continuing her work in theater and performance.

This is Molly’s ninth Pentacle show. She has loved growing up on this stage. You might have seen her most recently as Tammy in Hairspray or Nora in Brighton Beach Memoirs. She dedicates her time to the outdoors, doing theater whenever possible, and singing jazz with her band, Molly and the Swingset.

Last seen on the Pentacle Theatre stage as Millie in the 2023 production of Exit Laughing, but she also worked behind the scenes on costumes for A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder and on props for Ripcord. Patti is grateful to Jo Dodge for her excellent workshops, which helped give her the confidence to audition. She hopes to continue to participate in Pentacle activities and shows in the future. Patti lives in Salem and enjoys all types of art, jewelry making, a good road trip, and hiking in the beautiful Oregon hills.

Christian Hawley is excited to be a part of You Can’t Take It With You! This is Christian’s first Pentacle Theatre production after starring in shows such as Shrek the Musical, The Curious Savage, Newsies, and more at Silverton High School. Christian would like to thank his family and his girlfriend, Maddy, for supporting him in his dreams, as well as his amazing co-stars and the amazing behind-the-scenes crew of this production for making the magic happen!

Todd is happy to be performing on the Pentacle stage for the first time in several years. Among his favorite Pentacle parts are Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol; Tim in Noises Off! (a role he also played at Albany Civic Theater); Edward, the history-enthralled divorcee in Retreat From Moscow; and the shady Irish criminal Major Powell in Corpse!. Todd has also been seen locally as Prospero in The Tempest at Keizer Homegrown Theatre, as Devery in Born Yesterday at Gallery Theater, and Mr. Smee in Peter Pan & Wendy at Chemeketa Community College. Logan is thrilled to rejoin Pentacle after a brief hiatus following the birth of his son. He is excited to be acting under Scott and has previously performed at Pentacle in Shrek as the father of Shrek, Dulac the Greeter, and Bishop, and in The Prom as Trent. He dedicates his performance to his wife, whose support at home has allowed him to return to the Pentacle stage, and his son, who makes every day as his father a magnificent experience.

Hunter is very excited to perform in his fifth Pentacle show! You might have most recently seen him as Brad in Hairspray, in the ensemble of Big Fish or Ren in Footloose. Hunter has just returned from his Disney College Program at Disney World and is a recent graduate of Chemeketa Community College.

Wade is excited to be portraying Paul in one of his favorite classic American comedies. This show was one of the earliest to inspire later stage and screen stories revolving around lovable, oddball families. Wade would like to thank the patrons of Pentacle Theatre for helping support live theater in the valley. You may recognize Wade from his previous Pentacle experience as Roger/ Ensemble in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Wade also enjoys working from the other side of the stage, taking performance photos and producing promotional materials.

Valerie is delighted to be back onstage for her fourth production with the Pentacle Theatre. She was last seen onstage as Sister Mary Catherine in Keizer Homegrown Theatre's production of Drinking Habits. Other favorite roles include Annie in The Play That Goes Wrong (Pentacle), Becky in Becky Shaw (The Verona Studio), Noreen in Grown Learn Play (Theatre 33), and Annelle in Steel Magnolias. She would like to thank the cast and crew for an incredibly fun rehearsal process and run, her family and friends for coming out for a night of theater, and her husband, Travis, for his unwavering love and support! Valerie would also like to take this opportunity to apologize to the entire art of ballet.

Tom has spent more than 20 years on and offstage at Pentacle productions, starting with Bill Sykes in Oliver! through his most recent role as Uncle Leo in In-Laws, Outlaws, and Other People (That Should Be Shot). Along the way, he has played Alfie Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Virgil in Bus Stop, and Judge Wargraves in And Then There Were None, among many other roles. He loves to do voice work and has designed and run lights and sound, directed, and served as assistant director. Now retired, Tom is free to tackle the dozen books on his "actively reading" list, volunteer with SMART and the S-K school district, write, and geek out over libraries. Grandpa is a role that's been on his bucket list for 50 years, and he's grateful for the opportunity to be with this amazing cast and crew.

Dear friends of Pentacle Theatre,
I am honored and excited to serve as Board President for the 2026 season. I have always loved the theater, and when I was introduced to Pentacle in 2008, I immediately knew I had found where I belonged. I am deeply grateful for the leadership of Ken Hermens (President), Katie Lindbeck (Vice President), and Kelli Jaecks (Secretary/Member at Large) over the past several years. While their presence on the board will be missed, we are thankful for their continued commitment to Pentacle through active volunteer service.
2025 was an exciting and successful year for Pentacle Theatre. We welcomed many new faces both onstage and behind the scenes, and it is heartwarming to see our little theater in the woods thriving after 71 years. Attendance continued to grow, and we saw an increase in Season Ticket renewals for 2026. Our financial outlook is promising as we move into the new season, made possible by your ongoing support through ticket purchases, donations, and fundraising efforts.
Thanks to the dedication of Executive Director Steven Trahan, Pentacle implemented several important upgrades, including a new ticketing system, a new phone system, and grant funding that helps us continue bringing outstanding theater to life.
In 2025, generous patron donations also made much-needed improvements to our deck and facility possible. As we head into 2026, we will continue making progress on building and deck enhancements.
We are incredibly thankful for the time and dedication of our staff and volunteers. There are always opportunities to get involved and stay connected to the theater. The 2026 season promises laughter, reflection, and suspense. Thank you for your continued support.
All my best,
Fawnia Oblack
Pentacle Governing Board President
