Pentacle Theatre is grateful to The Lulay Group for their generous sponsorship, the contribution of a much-needed truck to support our Pentacle community. "Our family businesses supporting Pentacle and our community."

When we first meet Nick Bottom, he is a man drowning in a sea of ruffled collars and "Hey Nonny Nonnys," desperate to stay afloat in the shadow of a rock-star Shakespeare. In his frantic quest to find the "Next Big Thing," he looks everywhere—the future, the stars, a dubious soothsayer— except for the one place that actually matters: himself.
It’s a hilarious irony that in a show filled with tap-dancing eggs and stolen plots, the emotional heartbeat is a piece of advice famously penned by the Bard himself: "To thine own self be true."
We live in a world not unlike Renaissance London—a "Renaissance-aissance," if you will—where the pressure to be the brightest, the first, or the most "liked" can lead us far away from our original spark. Something Rotten! is a love letter to the messy, imperfect process of creation. It asks a vital question: Is it better to be a successful fraud or a sincere "failure"?
Throughout the rehearsal process, our cast and crew have explored what it means to be authentic in a world that demands spectacle. You’ll see it in:
Nick and Nigel: Two brothers balancing the need for commercial success with artistic integrity.
Bea: A woman redefining what a "woman’s role" looks like in 1595.
Portia: A young woman finding her own voice through the forbidden joy of poetry.
Tonight, we hope you laugh until your corsets (metaphorical or otherwise) feel like they might burst. But beneath the puns and the musical mashups, I hope you hear the resonance of Nigel Bottom’s struggle. Writing from the heart is terrifying because it exposes who we really are. Yet, as the song reminds us, it is the only way to be truly free.
So, as the curtain rises, remember: you don’t need a crystal ball to see the future. You just need the courage to be exactly who you are—omelettes, mistakes, and all.
Robert Salberg Director
Pentacle Theatre in Salem is located within the ancestral homelands of the Kalapuya, Yamhill, and Luckiamute people who have lived here since time immemorial.
In the 1850s, these tribes were displaced by colonization and were eventually resettled on reservations. We celebrate and honor the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz members, their resilience, and their present and future right to this land.

Dear friends of Pentacle Theatre,
What an exciting opening to our 2026 season! I would like to thank Scott Ramp and his entire production team, cast and crew on all their hard work and dedication that went into creating You Can’t Take It With You. Their love for the show and each other came through each and every performance. Thank you to all those who came out and saw the show. It is your continued patronage that helped with its success.
We have some new signs posted in the stalls of both restrooms that have been graciously put together by our amazing Hospitality Committee Chairs, Bev and Mike Freitas. We hope this helps keep everyone informed of shows and events that are coming up.
New bins have been installed to help with recycling programs. Those are located on both sides of the main entrance/exit of the theatre. Please help us reduce costs of printing by recycling your gently used programs for the next show. We appreciate all the hard work the Freitas’ do to help keep Pentacle organized and running smoothly during all the performances.
Our annual General Membership Meeting will be held on April 12th at 2 pm at the downtown office. We will have presentations from different committees and review the state of the theatre. If you have not signed up for a membership, please do so! It’s one way to stay involved with the theatre and it comes with some amazing perks.
Mark your calendars, gather your team and put on your thinking caps for Trivia Night! This fundraiser is April 20th at 7 pm at Southside Speakeasy. Cost is $25 per team of 2-6 players. Come support Pentacle Theatre and local businesses while having fun with friends.
Recently Pentacle Theatre received a very generous donation of $5000 to help with the restoration of the parking lot. This donation helps significantly but does not cover the total cost of the project. Any additional donations will help get this project completed to make the parking lot easier to use and safe for all. If you would like to contribute towards the work, please reach out to the business office to do so!
The musical hot list for 2027 season is available to view on our website under Resources for Directors. See what the directors are interested in proposing.
We continue to be amazed by all the support and dedication our volunteers and audience members provide. Pentacle Theatre would not be successful without you!
All my best,
Fawnia Oblack
Pentacle Governing Board President
