You’re a weirdo. And if you’re not a weirdo, chances are the people to your right and to your left are.

How could I possibly know that? Well, for one, you’ve willingly decided to spend your evening here in our little theater enjoying two hours of fairy tale creatures dancing and singing their hearts out all in the name of love. (Welcome to musical theater!)

Okay, but really… I know it because we are ALL weirdos. We are all extraordinarily, imperfectly, beautifully unique and that’s exactly what makes us strong.

All the mistakes you’ve made. All the storms you’ve weathered. The bad habits you can’t shake. The fact that you’re always late. The way you talk too loud when you get excited.

Your passions. Your doubts. Your beliefs. Your fears. Every embarrassing memory. Every painful moment. Every impossible dream.

These are the things that make us special. And only by celebrating and embracing our differences – our weird – can we ever hope to make this world a better place.

I am grateful to the cast and crew of Shrek the Musical for bringing that celebration to our stage here tonight, and I am grateful to you for joining the party.
