Welcome to Peninsula Players Theatre!

Dear Friends, It is my honor on behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire Peninsula Players Theatre company to wish you a warm welcome to our 87th season. Our stage will once again be filled with talent, light, and laughter.

Our amazing staff has worked tirelessly on making this season possible. Our Managing Director, Brian Kelsey, continues to expertly manage a broad range of duties that make our theater top-notch. Brian wears many hats, and he wears them well. In her first season as Artistic Director, Linda Fortunato has assembled an exciting variety of shows that are sure to please. Linda has transitioned seamlessly into her new role and has quickly become a valued member of our Peninsula Players’ family. We also welcome former Artistic Director Greg Vinkler back to our stage in his acting role in The Rainmaker and his directing role in Write Me A Murder. “Once A Player, Always A Player” rings true once again!

We are enthusiastically launching our “Act II” capital campaign to fulfill our dire need for new company housing. Adequate housing for our staff is a critical issue that is long past needing to be addressed. The time is right for us now to pursue this essential improvement and we are looking forward to partnering with all of you to meet this challenge. Let’s make this happen!

Hello friends, Welcome to Peninsula Players Theatre’s 87th season. After 17 previous seasons with the company in many different positions, I am thrilled to be welcoming you now in my first season as artistic director. It is an honor to be entrusted with carrying on the legacy of this incredible theater.

2022 finds us back with our first full season since 2019, and we could not have done it without your support. This is a time to celebrate, to reconnect, and to embrace the new while honoring the history and traditions that have made this such a unique and wonderful place.

I believe the most special thing about Peninsula Players Theatre is community. This means many things to me, including the vibrant arts community in Door County and all those who support us, as well as the exceptional community formed by our company as we live, eat, work and play together daily. But perhaps the most important is the community we form with you, our audience, each evening as you arrive on property to enjoy the grounds, the sunsets, the paths, the bonfire, and ultimately when we dim the lights and invite you to join us in the worlds of the stories we tell. From the hot and dusty drought of The Rainmaker, the mysterious English estate of Write Me a Murder, the eccentric retirement facility of Ripcord, the homebound teen’s bedroom in I and You, and all the way to the scene of the crime in Murder for Two – these worlds are only complete when we share them with you.

We mentor the next generation of theater practitioners through our internship program, by way of advice, teaching, listening, example and help in making their way into the professional world, and through supporting secondary education in the arts through our scholarship program.

We revere the rich legacy of Peninsula Players Theatre and embrace the great responsibility of ensuring it remains a stable business by using sound financial practices and accountability that will protect the theater for future generations.

Recognition of Prior Stewardship Peninsula Players Theatre would like to acknowledge that the land on which we gather was nurtured for thousands of years before our residence in 1937. These peoples include the former Wildwood Camp for Boys, the Potawatomi Nation and other influential peoples/nations, including the Huron, Menominee, Ojibwe, Ottawa, Petun, Sauk and the Winnebago (or Ho-Chunk).

BRIAN KELSEY Managing Director

Brian celebrates his 15th season as Peninsula Players Theatre’s Managing Director. He comes to Peninsula Players Theatre with a broad range of "for profit" and "not for profit" business experience, gained both in the United States and Europe, in the fields of operations, finance, marketing and public relations. Brian is engaged in the arts and tourism industries and is currently the board chair of the Wisconsin Arts Board. He also serves on both the Marketing Committee and the Diversity, Equity, Accessibility & Inclusion Committee for the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. Locally, Brian serves on the board of the Peninsula Arts and Humanities Alliance (president) and the Marketing Committee of the Women’s Fund of Door County. A graduate of Marquette University with a degree in journalism, he is pleased to share his business experience in the community that raised him. As a side note, he is even more pleased to be working for the organization that gave him his first performing arts experience as a child.

Re-entry during a performance. If you must leave during the performance, please do so quietly through the nearest open house door. Re-entry, while the performance is in progress, is at the discretion of the House Manager.

Children. In general, we suggest ages eight and over attend for attention span purposes. One or more of our shows have adult themes that may be inappropriate for young children. At Peninsula Players Theatre, we generally follow the ‘school-age and up’ rule. Everyone attending must purchase a seat. Babes in arms will not be allowed in the theater. For further information regarding the age-appropriateness of any of our shows, please contact the Box Office at (920) 868-3287 or visit the play pages at www.peninsulaplayers.com.

To purchase tickets for wheelchair or limited mobility seating, please phone our Box Office at (920) 868-3287. We are better able to handle special needs in person or over the phone.

Linda’s Peninsula Players Theatre credits over 18 seasons include acting in Talley’s Folly, A Real Lulu, The Importance of Being Earnest, Wait Until Dark, Noises Off, The Woman in Black; directing Ghost the Musical, Living on Love, Lend Me a Tenor, And Then There Were None, Once a Ponzi Time, The Nerd, The Fox On the Fairway; and choreographing Chicago, A Little Night Music and Cabaret. Linda was previously the artistic director of Theatre at the Center in Munster, Indiana, where she directed Cabaret, Big River, The Tin Woman, Steel Magnolias and a dozen other shows as director, choreographer or actor. Other credits include work with Marriott Theatre, Drury Lane Oakbrook, BoHo Theatre, American Players Theatre, and teaching in the theatre departments of both Loyola University and Columbia College Chicago.

Act II PROTECTING THE PAST ENSURING THE FUTURE Peninsula Players Theatre is Building New Housing!

We are thrilled to announce Act II: Protecting the Past, Ensuring the Future. New company housing has been a dream of ours for many years.

In staying true to our mission of fiscal responsibility, the theater has paid off its debt from Act I, which provided the community with a new theater and audience pavilion, and is ready to raise the curtain on Act II.

This critical project will provide safe and adequate housing for our company members that make the magic you see on stage. Modern amenities, such as indoor plumbing and climate control, will help attract and retain the talented staff and interns that make your Peninsula Players experience what it is today. GREG VINKLER Actor – The Rainmaker Director – Write Me a Murder

Greg has played a part in Peninsula Players Theatre's wonderful history for 34 years, during which time he served as artistic director for many years, directed 32 productions and performed in 52 shows. He has performed extensively in Chicago, appearing at Chicago Shakespeare (39 productions), Goodman, Steppenwolf, Court, Writers, Northlight, Marriott Lincolnshire and Victory Gardens theaters, receiving three Joseph Jefferson Awards (12 nominations), two Artisan Awards and an After Dark Award. Regionally he has performed at Milwaukee Rep, Paper Mill, Fulton, Pittsburgh Public and BoarsHead theaters. Greg appeared on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning ’09 revival of West Side Story and internationally at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, the Barbican Theatre in London, Vienna’s English Theatre and Singapore Rep.

His selected Chicago theater credits include The Last Match, Witch (Writers Theater), Pass Over, Straight White Men (Steppenwolf Theatre), A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Pericles, Cyrano de Bergerac (Chicago Shakespeare Theater), Posh (Steep Theatre) The Body of an American (Stage Left) and Octagon (Jackalope), as well as work with The Goodman Theatre, Definition Theatre and Chicago Dramatists. Film and television credits include “Pass Over” (Amazon Studios, dir. Spike Lee), “Working Man,” “Chicago Med” and “Chicago Fire” (NBC). He is represented in Chicago by Actors Talent Group, in Los Angeles by KMR Talent and Ferrantino Entertainment, and currently resides in Los Angeles with his beautiful girlfriend and their insane dog.

EVA NIMMER Actor – Write Me a Murder, Ripcord Eva is so happy to make her Peninsula Players Theatre debut, having appeared in a reading of The Safe House last March. Selected Wisconsin credits: Renaissance Theaterworks, Next Act Theatre, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, Children’s Theater of Madison, Third Avenue PlayWorks and Northern Sky Theater. Eva’s original monologue, To the Young in Heart, was featured in Forward Theater Company’s 2021 festival showcase, and she is co-author of the musical Dairy Heirs, along with Joel Kopischke and Alissa Rhode. IN MEMORY OF TOM MCKENZIE, BOARD MEMBER 1963 – 2008 Tom’s love of the arts started at an early age when his brother, former Peninsula Players Theatre Executive Producer James B. McKenzie, acted out plays with their four siblings. Growing up in Appleton, Tom was active in sports and played football for Lawrence University. He served in the US Navy and earned a law degree from UW-Madison, which was interrupted when he served two years in the Army Counterintelligence Corps during the Korean War and opened a law office in Appleton in 1955.

As an attorney, Tom’s love of the arts left a lasting impact on Door County. He was on Birch Creek Music Performance Center’s original advisory board, chair of the alumni committee that developed the Boynton/Björklunden property in the early 1970s, drafted and filed the paperwork in 1966 to Door County Hardware incorporate the Peninsula Corner of Third & Jefferson School of the Arts’ not-forprofit status as well as that Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 of our very own theater-ina-garden’s in 1963.

TJ THOMAS Actor – I and You TJ makes his Peninsula Players Theatre debut and is an entertainer born and bred in Nashville, Tennessee who has been in Chicago since 2015.

After six years and two combat tours to Afghanistan with the Navy in 2011 and 2012, TJ was honorably discharged, and was accepted into The Theatre School at DePaul University the following year. TJ’s worked with Second City’s seasonal performance of Deck The Hallmark and Griffin Theatre’s North American Premiere of Solaris. On screen he can be seen as T-Rex in the new Disney pilot “SATURDAYS” and the short film “Gary Screams for You,” which will be highlighted at Cannes Film Festival’s Focus WiP. When not immersed by the hustle and bustle of an audition or performance schedule, he’ll be drawing or playing guitar for his wife and daughter. And if he ain’t doin that, he’s trying to find a birdie out on the course.

About the Playwright ...

N. RICHARD NASH (JUNE 8, 1913 – DECEMBER 11, 2000) Playwright – The Rainmaker N. Richard Nash was a producer, librettist, screenwriter, educator and playwright.

Nash was born Nathaniel Richard Nusbaum in Philadelphia and was raised on the rough-and-tumble south side of the city. Before attending the University of Philadelphia to study English and philosophy, Nash was a $10-a-match boxer. After graduation, he abandoned philosophy for playwriting and his first play, Parting at Imsdorf, earned him an award and a teaching post in drama at Bryn Mawr College.

Nash’s work for the stage included his Broadway debut in Second Best Bed (1946), The Young and Fair (1948), See the Jaguar (1952) with James Dean, Girls of Summer (1956) with Shelly Winters, Handful of Fire (1958) with Roddy McDowell, the libretto for the musical Wildcat (a Lucille Ball vehicle he co-produced in 1960), and the book of the Kander and Ebb musical, The Happy Time (1968) featuring Robert Goulet.

After a drive through the western states, Nash was inspired to write his most successful work, The Rainmaker.

His comedy-drama western started as a one-act play for the Philco Television Playhouse in 1953. “I tried to tell a simple story about droughts that happen to people, and about faith,” Nash said.

In 1954, The Rainmaker made its Broadway debut and the characters of Lizzie and Starbuck entered the cannons of classic American theater. With no rain in sight, the Curry family farm is struggling during a drought. Their crops, cattle and family members are all withering – until Starbuck arrives bringing the priceless gift of hope.

In 1963, The Rainmaker was adapted into a musical, 110 in the Shade, with score by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt and libretto

by Nash. The musical featured “Wagon Train” star Robert Horton as Starbuck and Inga Swenson, who also originated the role of Guinevere in Camelot, as Lizzie. The musical was revived on Broadway in 2007 with Tony Award-winning performers Audra McDonald and Steve Kazee as the star-crossed lovers.

Nash also wrote of a number of teleplays during the “golden age” of television in the 1950s and 1960s, and penned screenplays to "Welcome Stranger," "Nora Prentiss" and "Porgy and Bess." He often wrote under the name of “John Roc” and authored the novels, “Cry Macho,” “The Last Magic,” “Radiance,” "East Wind, Rain" and "The Wildwood." Nash died December 11, 2000, yet The Rainmaker carries on and has been translated into 40 languages and was made into a film with Katharine Hepburn and Burt Lancaster.

Ayanna Bria makes her Peninsula Players Theatre debut as Lizzie in The Rainmaker. JESSIE HOWE Scenic Designer – The Rainmaker

Jessie is beyond excited to return to Peninsula Players Theatre for her second season with the company. Jessie was the scenic artist for the theater's 2021 productions of Talley's Folly and Romance in D. Jessie has designed and painted for numerous Chicago-based companies, including First Folio Theatre, Windy City Playhouse, Raven Theatre, Chicago Children's Theatre, Porchlight Music Theatre, The Den Theatre, TimeLine Theatre Company, Theater Wit, Shattered Globe Theatre, and The Savoyaires. From 2015 until 2020, Jessie served as scenic charge artist for Theatre at the Center, where she also worked directly on building and designing scenery. Jessie's productions for Theatre at the Center include Forever Plaid and Dames at Sea. She is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago, where she earned her BA in theater design.

EVELYN DANNER Costume Designer – The Rainmaker

Evelyn is happy to be making her Peninsula Players Theatre debut here in beautiful Door County! Having worked creatively for more than 25 years in the Chicagoland area, both onstage and off, Evelyn most recently designed costumes for the Goodman Theatre’s 2022 production of August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean. Evelyn received a Black Excellence Award - Costumes for Don’t Make Me Over (In Tribute to Dionne Warwick) at Black Ensemble Theater and for Quark at MPAACT Theatre. She has also worked with Red Clay Dance Company and teaches in Chicago Public Schools. When not designing or running shows, you can find Evelyn singing in her church and Cabarets with Working in Concert, The Chicago Cabaret Professionals, Black Voices in Cabaret and SongShop Live.

GUY RHODES Lighting Designer – The Rainmaker, Ripcord

Guy is excited to return to Peninsula Players Theatre, where he previously designed A Murder is Announced and Ghost The Musical. His Chicago-area credits include Dames at Sea, Cabaret, Big Fish (Theatre at the Center), Hedda Gabler (Theatre Northwest), Mother Hicks (HAPA), Hairspray (Star Plaza Theatre), Jitney (WSTG) and The Last Night of Ballyhoo (Falling Drum). National credits include The Polar Express Train Ride (Rail Events), five tours for R&B singer Anthony Hamilton, as well as concerts for Kendrick Lamar, Alan Parsons Live Project, Anita Baker, Joe, Erykah Badu, and Maze featuring Frankie Beverly.

Guy frequently works in the visual disciplines of photography and video production. Top assignments include the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games in South Korea (USA Today Sports Images).

JOE COURT Sound Designer – The Rainmaker, Write Me a Murder

Joe Court has spent the last 22 years working professionally as a sound designer, engineer, and educator. His work has been heard in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, McCarter Theatre Center, The Clarence Brown Theatre, Great Lakes Theater, Virginia Stage Company, Actors Theatre of Indiana and the Idaho, Lake Tahoe and Illinois Shakespeare Festivals. As an educator he has taught at Virginia Tech, The University of Chicago, and currently teaches at Ball State University. Joe is an artistic associate with TUTA Theatre, Chicago. From 2008 until 2016, Joe served as sound engineer for the Chicago production of the Tony Award-winning musical Million Dollar Quartet. He has received three Joseph Jefferson Award nominations for his design work. Member, USA 829.

DAVID CORLEW Actor – Ripcord, Murder for Two David is a singer, actor and musician whose work covers a wide breadth of art forms. He is a veteran of the two-person, four-hand piano whodunit, Murder For Two - which he reprises for the third time in Door County. David is a ready contributor to actor-musician productions like Once, where he can apply his skills as a multi-instrumentalist. David holds a BS degree from Northwestern University in theater with a music theater certificate and is a graduate of the Professional Training Program at the New England Center of Circus Arts. He is a sought-after coach and he is on the faculty at the Chicago High School for the Arts, where he teaches in the Music and Theatre conservatories. www.david-corlew.com

Peninsula Players Theatre Scholarship Peninsula Players Theatre is pleased to announce its 2022 Peninsula Players Theatre Scholarship recipient. The theater and its Board of Directors created this annual award to foster the career path and arts education of graduating high school seniors across Door County in the performing arts.

Eligible applicants must plan to enroll as a full-time college student with a major or minor in arts management, music (performance or education), or theater (acting, theater studies, theater technology and design). One $500 scholarship was available to a student at each of the five Door County high schools for a total of $2,500.

“The arts are such a critical part of a student’s overall education as well as continued personal development,” said Peninsula Players Managing Director Brian Kelsey. “It is with great pride that we reward and encourage the development of careers in the performing arts.”

Congratulations Owen Ensign-Foulds!

The 2022 scholarship recipient is Owen Ensign-Foulds from Sevastopol High School.

Ensign-Foulds has demonstrated a high level of participation and creativity in the arts during his academic career. His performing arts credits are extensive, including lead roles in Sevastopol’s plays and musicals, participation in school, pep and jazz bands, as well as choir.

Ensign-Foulds has received a number of accolades for his hard work and dedication, including Sevastopol’s Excellence in Drama and Director’s Choice Award in Choir, and four Star Firsts from the Wisconsin School Music Association’s Solo and Ensemble Festival. Ensign-Foulds will attend UW-Milwaukee’s Peck School of the Arts this fall to pursue a BFA in Musical Theatre. There were no scholarship applicants from Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, Gibraltar nor Washington Island high schools in 2022.

AUDRA BAAKARI BOYLE Business Manager

Audi is very excited to see artists and patrons returning to the theater, a place she has called home for 28 seasons. She served as the Box Office Manager and Public Relations Director before she her appointed to Business Manager. She was an Assistant Sales Manager at The New Theatre Restaurant in Kansas City, Kansas, and Business Manager for the theater department of the University Arkansas-Fayetteville. She earned a BFA degree in technical theater, an MA in theater history and public relations and certificates in human resources and non-profit administration from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Audi spends the off-season in Superior, Wisconsin, with her husband Scott and son Conor and is very thankful to be reunited with the Players' family. Love and be loved.

DANIELLE SZMANDA Development Director

Danielle is thrilled to be celebrating her 12th season with Peninsula Players Theatre and her 10th in the development position. She is a native of the Chicagoland area and a proud alum of St. Norbert College, earning a BA in Business Administration and Theatre Studies. She spent her early career between box office and production positions in Chicago before joining the Peninsula Players Theatre team full-time. Danielle is especially excited to raise funds for new company housing this year!

Peninsula Players A Brief History of the Theatre in a Garden Take a rustic, woodsy site outfitted with a few little cabins that once served a boys’ camp along the bay. Add a dream, a barnlike proscenium stagehouse and a hundred or so seats open to the stars above and you have the early days of Peninsula Players.

Richard and Caroline Fisher, a young novice brother-and-sister team, started the troupe in 1935 when they produced Noel Coward’s Hay Fever at a site behind the former Bonnie Brook Cottage/Motel in Fish Creek, now the Fish Creek Town Park.

continued their careers in the arts, either on- or off-stage, and some have even gone onto stardom.

By 1937 the Fishers along with their parents (“Mama” who designed and made costumes and fed the company and “Papa,” the general handyman) realized the ensemble had outgrown the motel site so they purchased the 1941, Camille with Margot Fisher and Leo Lucker 22-acre Wildwood Boys Camp, the present site of the theater.

Although Peninsula Players began under the stars, a canvas top was draped above the audience in 1946, and in 1957 Caroline’s dream of a permanent roof came true when the open-sided pavilion was built.

In 1960, after 25 years of involvement, the Fishers sold the theater at public auction to Kenneth Carroad, a New York City attorney. Jim McKenzie was hired to oversee the Players’ operations as producer.

He and his wife, actress Jeanne Bolan, both associated with the Players since 1947, took on 2008 Born Yesterday with Erica Elam and Kevin McKillip the Fisher legacy.

Now in its 87th season it is no longer a dream, we are America’s oldest professional resident summer 1953 Affairs of the State with Robert theater.

The non-profit organization, Peninsula Players Theatre Foundation, Inc., was formed in 1962, to operate the theater, and in 1978 Carroad sold out. McKenzie became owner of the property in 1978 and continued as the Company’s producer.

In the 87 years Peninsula Players has performed in the Theatre in a Garden, more than 1,000 actors have crossed our boards. Some had their first professional experiences at the Players. Many 52

As a member of the Players Board of Directors, McKenzie continued to help preserve and improve the theater’s facilities and environment until his death in 2002.

More than a decade ago many improvements were made; this included actor housing, public restroom facilities, expanded and upgraded rehearsal hall and storage areas and a computerized box office. The close of the 2005 season brought the beginning of the Players’ largest improvement – a new stage house and audience pavilion.

Through the generous support of many donors, benefactors and volunteers all intent on continuing the magic of live theater for future generations, the Players built a new facility in the exact same footprint of the first theater. In June 2006, the 621-seat audience pavilion opened.

Included are up-to-date wiring, more space for actors and scenery a redesigned space to provide better sightlines for the audience, not to mention new comfy seats.

PAUL COOK Production Manager

Paul is thrilled to join the Peninsula Players Theatre team! A Chicago native, Paul has lived and worked in theatre all over the country and even overseas. He received his BA in Theatre and English from Marquette University (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) and his MFA in Directing from the University of California, Irvine. As a production manager, he's worked with such companies as Strawdog Theatre, Pride Arts, and Windy City Playhouse (with their recent show created with Chef Rick Bayless). He currently lives in Chicago with his husband, Wilhelm, and Pit Bull, Agatha Trunchbull (Aggie). Paul is passionate about Equity in the Arts and looks forward to a wonderful summer season in beautiful Door County.

NATHAN ANGRICK Technical Director

Nate is thrilled to be returning for his fourth season as Peninsula Players Theatre's technical director. Nate was born and raised in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and graduated from UW-Stevens Point with a BFA in technical theater and design. He will be entering his final year at the Yale School of Drama where he will receive his MFA in technical design and production.

McCLAIN WOOD Box Office Manager

McClain is excited to be the Box Office Manager for Peninsula Players Theatre's 2022 season. He has spent several seasons working at the box office for the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, entertaining on the airwaves on KXUA 88.3FM and working on independent films.

Mark holds a BFA in Lighting Design from Boston University and is the lighting advisor at Emerson College. He considers himself a multidisciplinary artist in such subjects as 3D modeling and printing, playwriting and installation art. KELLYN GAGNER Costume Shop Assistant Kellyn is excited to be back at Peninsula Players Theatre for her second season. She studied literature and art at Lawrence University, but found her home in the costume shop. Recent credits include costume designer’s assistant in Sour Angelica and Curlew River and costume designer for A Killer Party. This year, she taught costume practicum at UW-Green Bay. In addition to stitching, she enjoys writing and making 2D art.

KEIRA JACOBS Carpenter - The Rainmaker Keira is delighted to return to Peninsula Players Theatre for their sixth season as a carpenter, after completing the internship program in 2014. A graduate of UWMadison, they have spent the past five years working in Chicago, including three years as Master Carpenter at Lookingglass Theatre. Keira’s next adventure will take them to Yale University where they will be pursuing an MFA in Technical Design & Production starting this fall.

Becca has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in technical theatre from the University of Minnesota Duluth. This is her third summer at Peninsula Players Theatre, where she participated in the internship program in 2019. She is so excited to be back down by the bay and with her Players' family for another summer.

ZACHARY FARMER Carpenter

Zach joins Peninsula Players Theatre for his first season from Knox College, where he recently graduated.

Originally from Texas, Zach focused on scenic design and technical theater while in college.

PETER M. RULE Property Shop Assistant

Peter is a scenographer, technician and artisan based in Pittsburgh, PA, where he’s pursuing his MFA in Scenic Design at Carnegie Mellon University. He’s delighted to be back by the bay for his second season with Peninsula Players Theatre, after completing the internship program in 2018. Peter is an enthusiastic designer, painter, stitcher, and sculptor and finds joy in any task in the service of theatre.

His previous design work includes a new adaptation of Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus (Scenery, 2017), Godspell (Costumes, 2019), and The Mill on the Floss (Scenery & Costumes, 2020).

ERIC SMITH Landscape Design/Grounds Manager Eric returned to Door County eight years ago to establish himself as an artist and pursue his talented career in Landscape Design. He brings to the Peninsula Players Theatre more than 20 years of experience in design and landscaping, having worked for companies such as Leids Nursery and David J. Frank Landscaping.

He served as grounds manager for Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls and as a computer graphics art designer at Flexcraft, Inc. in Wisconsin. Eric’s special talents for landscape painting, photography and his love for the outdoors adds to his abilities for creating the beautiful gardens that are displayed throughout the property of the Peninsula Players Theatre. Truly a work of art in the making!

The Play’s the Thing …

The Players 2022 Winter Play Reading Series

The Play's the Thing is part of our community outreach programming, presenting free professional play readings for the public in February, March and April. Our desire to stay connected to patrons, wherever they may be, led us to expand the program to include virtual audio recordings in addition to in-person events.

We opened our 12th year of the threepart play series with the virtual reading of Kodachrome by Adam Szymkowicz, in coordination with Door County Reads and its exploration of "Population 485: Meeting Your Neighbors One Siren at a Time" and "Truck: A Love Story" by Michael Perry.

In April and March, we were able to host both in- person and virtual performances. April’s reading featured Kristine Thatcher’s A Safe House, followed by Sean Grennan’s A Rock Sails By in March.

The Play's the Thing continues to help bring people together and maintain a human connection. The winter program was funded in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as generous grants from Door County Medical Center, Friends of Door County Libraries, The Shubert Foundation and operating funds of Peninsula Players Theatre.

Once upon a time, Mrs. Lampert had a beautiful daughter, then another (then another, but that’s a story for another day). One decided she was the queen and the other decided to be a princess. Now they run our kitchen and feed us all summer. God save the queen and the princess, too. You may know them as Deb Lampert and Anni Lampert. They live in a small castle in Sturgeon Bay, where they exercise active imaginations, but rarely caution.

CONOR BOYLE Kitchen Aide Conor returns for his second season as the brave knight who slays the steaming and hissing dragons in the kitchen. Conor joined his parents at the theater when he was six months old and has called it home ever since. Enjoy the show!
