Guest Speaker DR. SANDRA TREJOS Dr. Sandra Trejos is a professor of economics within PennWest’s Department of Business, Economics and Communication. She has been a part of the Clarion faculty since 2004, receiving tenure and promotion to full professor in 2009. The journey to American citizenship started in 1992 for Trejos, when she and her husband left their home country of Costa Rica to pursue master’s degrees in the United States. More than 25 years, a doctorate and four daughters later, Trejos not only earned citizenship but was the speaker for the naturalization ceremony in fall 2016. She cast her vote for the first time in the presidential election later that year. Prior to Clarion, she taught at the University of Costa Rica, Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis and the University of South Dakota. Nationally, Trejos received the Outstanding Latina Faculty: Service/ Teaching in Higher Education Award in 2015 from the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education. Trejos earned her bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of Costa Rica. She then received her master’s degree and Ph.D. in economics from Oklahoma State University.
