Southern New Hampshire University’s (SNHU) own Neal Laurenza has been working for years on a game called “Bacon Man” with his team known as Skymap Games. With the game nearing its completion, Neal agreed to be interviewed by Penmen Press to afford him the opportunity to highlight some of the game’s defining traits, as well as share some insight on the development process and the team’s overall experience. When asked to highlight features that Bacon Man offered, Laurenza confidently said, “Bacon Man offers a sense of humor that dates back to Ren and Stimpy... a lot of games can be funny, but not in a way that is subtle and maniacal.” “Bacon Man” is an actionplat former where players control the wide-smiled Bacon Man as he travels the land hoping to

CAPE coordinator Alicia Frazier described the event, saying “This is an event that we’re trying to start as a CAPE tradition…it’s really fun because we get many competitive athletes to play along and get involved.” CAPE held a late Big Money BINGO night in the Upper Dining Center on Wednesday night.
Prizes were awarded to winners and included a Swagway hoverboard and an Amazon Echo. On Thursday, acoustic musician Will Evans put on a show in the Dining Center from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Evan’s sound incorporated a fusion of Jason Mraz and Matt Kearny; he added his own spin by looping his voice, beat-boxing, percussion, and guitar chords to

What's Inside:
From Apr 17 through Apr 23, Southern New Hampshire University’s (SNHU) Coordinators of Activities and Programming Events (CAPE) organized fun events for students to enjoy before the semester ends. The week concluded on Saturday with a SNHUStock festival on the green space. Starting on Sunday, CAPE took a group of students to Six Flags New England for four hours of rides, games, and food. Student attendee and junior Liana Therrien said, “It was a great trip for only 5 bucks.” On Monday, CAPE teamed up with Tucker’s to provide brunch in the Last Chapter Pub. Tucker’s supplied free breakfast sandwiches and pastries from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The next day, a PuttPutt Patio event was set up outside of the Student Center. Participants were asked trivia questions and were given the chance to putt a hole in one. Prizes awarded included SNHU bumper stickers
reclaim his stolen throne. The complex plat forming style of this game calls back to such familiar classics as “Mega Man X” and “Super Mario Bros” while also managing to forge a unique style of its own. Laurenza said, “Bacon Man will offer complex controls, but will not hold your hand. Bacon Man encourages the unique combination of exploring the world, and exploring

mechanics.” Another unique aspect of “Bacon Man” is that the developers at Skymap chose to forego the option to add online multiplayer. Local multiplayer will be included as an all but primary feature in the game. When asked about the decision to remove online play, Laurenza said, “There is a disconnect when you cannot turn to your friend and see their
create rhythms. Later that night, Earth day was celebrated as the High Film Society gave a screening of Wall-E at the Last Chapter Pub from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Free pizza was handed out to those who attended. On Friday, CAPE set up a make-your-own aqua garden area in the Student Center Club Suite for students to create unique aqua garden for their dorms. Later that night, the hilarious improv duo Simply Unemployable performed at the Last Chapter Pub from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday concluded the CAPE Spring Week affairs with the Ninth Annual SNHUStock. This event occurred from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the Green Space. A lineup of musicians and comedians took center stage as food trucks catered to the students. Nick Flanders, Business Manager of CAPE, commented on the event, “It definitely ran very smoothly and a lot of people showed up. Everyone seems to be having a good time and overall it’s been a good day.”
teary eyes. We’re big believers in keeping that competitive element.” Being at the heart of the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) season, the stressful yet rewarding process of preparing a booth is all too familiar to the developers at Skymap. In preparation, Laurenza gathered a group of SNHU Game Design students to test the demo, and track down in-game glitches and bugs so they could be removed in time for the expo. “A successful PAX is a lot of things to a lot of different people,” Laurenza said. His team will be trying to find a healthy medium between media attention, and the approval of the consumer. They are also exploring the middle ground element that makes up consumer media, such as YouTube and other social media platforms. “Bacon Man” is going to launch in 2016 on Steam, Xbox One, and one other platform that has yet to be announced.
