Discover Pembroke Hill School’s Fall 2025 Auxiliary Programs Our goal is to provide your child with after-school opportunities that are safe, engaging, and enriching. Inside this booklet, you’ll find a complete guide to the wide variety of programs available this season.

At Pembroke Hill School, we believe that learning doesn’t stop when the school day ends — it expands. Our enrichment programs are thoughtfully designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and help students discover new passions beyond the classroom. Research shows that participation in after-school enrichment can enhance academic performance, social skills, and emotional well-being. These experiences allow students to grow not only in knowledge, but also in creativity, collaboration, and joy.

Registration is open for all of our fall programming. To keep our programs high-quality, we may need to adjust or cancel an enrichment or athletic offering (for example, if enrollment is low). We’ll share any updates with families as soon as they’re available.

Whether your child is picking up an instrument, writing their first story, or finding their voice on stage, we are proud to offer a space where they can explore, create, and shine. Kindergarten – Grade 5: Extended Day Program Pembroke Hill School’s Extended Day gives Kindergarten - 5th grade students a welcoming space (Deramus Field House) to finish homework, try hands-on activities, and make new friends under the supervision of our caring team. Staffing Pembroke Hill School’s Extended Day is staffed by trained Extended Day Coordinators.

Working as a team, they create a positive, engaging, and safe environment for our afterschool programming. Extended Day is organized into three cohorts: Kindergarten, Grades 1–2, and Grades 3–5. A daily snack is provided by Dining Hall staff, and individual allergy lists are reviewed and followed.

About Our Fall 2025 Enrichment Classes The Pembroke Hill School Auxiliary Program offers after-school enrichment classes to students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, designed to engage them in a variety of activities with their peers. Classes cover a wide range of topics and are offered in both the fall and spring sessions, meeting once a week for about six weeks.

Enrollment is open to all students on a first-come, first-served basis. Space in each class is limited, so early enrollment is encouraged.

Most Fall 2025 enrichment classes will begin the week of September 8, 2025. Students with an Extended Day contract until 5:00 p.m. or later will receive a 50% discount on enrichment classes. Enrichment classes will be billed to the student’s business office account. There is a 50% discount for all Pembroke Hill Faculty & Staff. Discounts do not apply to private music lessons. Cancellations must be made at least one week in advance of the class start date to avoid being billed.

Classes begin at school dismissal and end at 4:15 p.m. Students who are not picked up at the dismissal of their enrichment class will be taken to Extended Day in Deramus Field House and will incur the drop-in rate for Extended Day if they do not have a contract for that day.

Enrichment Class Full Descriptions Raiders Chess Club — Grades K–2 Introduce your child to the world of strategy and bright thinking. KC Chess Club teaches fundamentals—piece movement, basic tactics, and sportsmanship—through short, hands-on lessons, fun practice games, and friendly mini-tournaments. All materials provided; perfect for beginners and early learners building focus and confidence.

Raiders Chess Club — Grades 3–5 For developing players ready to level up: this class focuses on strategy, tactical combinations, opening principles, endgame basics, and structured game analysis. Students learn to evaluate positions, plan ahead, and compete in classroom tournaments while receiving individual feedback to sharpen their play. All materials provided; best for students who know the basics and want to improve their competitive skills.

Fall Sparkle Jewelry — Grades 3–5 Students will dive into the world of jewelry-making as they create trendy pieces inspired by the colors and vibes of fall. From stretchy bead bracelets with charms to clay bead chokers, friendship bracelets, and even backpack zipper charms, each week brings a new project that’s both fun and fashionable. By the end of the session, students will have a collection of wearable art they can show off or share with friends.

LEGO Club (Brick4Kidz) — Grades 1–5 Students will build machines, vehicles, and motorized models each week using LEGO® bricks, gears, axles, and motors—exploring STEM concepts through hands-on play.

Soccer Shots — Grades K–1 & Grades 2–3 Give your child a fun, age-appropriate introduction to soccer with high-energy sessions that teach fundamental skills, teamwork, and character values through themed games and positive coaching.

Center Stage! — Grades K-2 Young performers explore music and storytelling through Disney and Broadway songs, group singing, character voices, movement, and light acting. The class culminates in a fun dress-up performance for families.

Written Out Loud — Grades 4–5 A collaborative storytelling experience where students create and publish their own book, building writing skills and creative confidence.

Next Stop… Kidtropolis! The Coterie Theatre — Grades K–1 Kids build an imaginative town through role-play—pretend to run a bakery, post office, pet shop, and more—developing creativity, social skills, and pretend-play storytelling.

Monsterologists The Coterie Theatre — Grades 2–3 Become a monster hunter or creator—students craft stories and characters as they investigate mythical monsters, building imaginative play and performance skills.

Haunted Theatre - The Coterie Theatre — Grades 4–5 What’s that noise? Who’s behind that door? In this horror-themed class, you’ll craft bold, exciting characters and master the timing needed to inspire fear and dread as we explore the haunted corners of our imagination.

No School Days Childcare School’s out — we’ll keep the fun and learning going. Join us for full-day or part-time childcare packed with fun. There is a 50% discount for all Pembroke Hill Faculty & Staff.

Full Childcare Descriptions Fall into Creativity — Grades K–5 Celebrate autumn with leaf-themed crafts, wood-slice painting, and cinnamon-scented art projects — a cozy, creative way to welcome the season.

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) Adventure Club — Grades 2–5 An introductory D&D group that develops storytelling, teamwork, and problem-solving through guided tabletop role-playing adventures.

GABL Schools-Out Basketball Camp — Grades K–5 The GABL Basketball Academy offers dynamic camp programs that help players of all ages and skill levels improve fundamentals, conditioning, and game play in a positive, skill-focused environment.

Spooky Season Bash — Grades K–5 A Halloween-themed celebration with pumpkin painting, spooky crafts, and fall games.

Costumes welcome.

Feeling Grateful — Grades K–5 Inspired by “Feeling Grateful” by Kobi Yamada, this session explores gratitude through storytelling, kindness activities, and a heart-themed craft.

Baking with Gratitude — Grades K–5 Students will bake beloved fall treats—mini pies, cookies, and seasonal goodies—using favorite family recipes contributed by Pembroke Hill faculty and staff, then make thank-you cards to share with friends and family.

Safe Sitter® Class — Grade 5 A hands-on class teaching safety, first aid, and childcare basics to prepare students to stay home alone or babysit responsibly—perfect for students ready to earn extra money by helping families.

Handmade for the Holidays — Grades K–5 A day of gift-making and wrapping: students craft seasonal presents, decorations, and cards, then learn simple wrapping techniques to make their projects gift-ready.

Winter Wonderland STEM Day — Grades K–5 Hands-on winter experiments and engineering challenges — snow slime, fizzy “ice” eruptions, marshmallow igloo builds, and paper “snowball” launchers.

Charcuterie Christmas Boards — Grade 5 Bring your own board and learn food-safety basics and design tips to create a festive charcuterie masterpiece. Includes a “Best Board” contest and take-home tasting.

Private Music Instruction Pembroke Hill offers private music instruction to nurture and develop students’ musical talents.

Our program provides personalized lessons tailored to each student’s skill level and interests, fostering a deeper appreciation for music and enhancing their overall educational experience.

Through one-on-one instruction, students are supported in achieving their musical goals, building confidence, and discovering the joy of music.

Instrumental music lessons are offered by private instructors between 3:15 and 6:00 p.m., Monday–Friday, on the Wornall Campus. Students may contact the instructor directly to enroll or contact Kellee Pearson for assistance and placement.

Each instructor will require a parent to sign the studio policy, which outlines expectations for the student, parent, and instructor. Music lessons are billed directly to your student’s business office account through Pembroke Hill School. Because of payroll cut-off dates, billing is processed in mid-two-month cycles. Families will be charged for each lesson that takes place during the billing period. In the event of inclement weather, music lessons will be canceled along with other Pembroke Hill after-school activities, and cancellations will be listed on the school website.

Meet Our Instructors All music lesson fees are $40 per 30 minute lesson. Extended day and faculty/staff discounts do not apply to music lessons.

Dr. Tomas Aber Dr. Tomas Aber brings a wealth of performing and teaching experience to his clarinet and saxophone students. A graduate of the Juilliard School and UMKC’s Conservatory of Music, he spent three decades as bass clarinetist with the Omaha Symphony and has performed internationally with ensembles such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic and the National Ballet Orchestra of the Netherlands. In Kansas City, he performs with the newEar ensemble and the pop band BCR. Since 2008, Dr. Aber has taught private lessons at Pembroke Hill, where he helps students develop strong fundamentals, confident listening skills, and a relaxed, enjoyable approach to music making.

Lyra Pherigo Lyra Pherigo is an accomplished Kansas City musician with decades of experience performing and teaching. As a flutist, she has played with the Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, Kansas City Ballet, Civic Opera, and Starlight Theatre, and she also teaches beginning piano and vocal performance. Matt Ronan Matt has been teaching drums in Kansas City since 1989 and brings decades of experience to his students. His lessons go beyond just learning beats — students will explore drum set, rudimental percussion, music reading, and the foundations of music theory. As a versatile musician, Matt has performed across genres including rock, blues, jazz, Broadway, and classical.

Laura Worms Laura has been playing piano since seventh grade, beginning as an organist for her local church. At Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) she studied piano for six years with Ruth Slenczynska, the last living pupil of Rachmaninoff. Laura earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance at SIUE, served as a graduate assistant teaching piano to college students, and received a graduate award in Piano Pedagogy. Wornall Campus Chorus 51st Street Singers – Stephanie Springate The 51st Street Singers rehearse every Tuesday and Friday morning from 7:40–8:10 a.m. and are open to 5th graders. The repertoire is designed to build skills while exploring varied literature and concepts. Students perform in the winter and spring at both on-campus and offcampus events. Wornall Campus Instrumental Program 5th Grade Band – David Cunningham Open to 5th graders; beginning instruments: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, baritone, percussion (mallet & battery) Instrument demos: Fall for 5th grade students/parents; Spring for 4th graders transitioning to 5th.

Rehearsals: Mondays & Wednesdays, 7:40 – 8:10 a.m., Curry Theatre.

Performances: fall & spring concerts (Ward Parkway Campus) + Wornall events (Holiday Assembly, Grand Friends Day, Facilities Appreciation).

Fall Athletics Pembroke Hill School coordinates volleyball and cross-country teams as members of the Parochial League of Kansas City; dedicated parent volunteers coach the teams. Season schedules are available at https://www.plkc.org/schedules

The Pembroke Hill School Auxiliary Programs Q & A 1. What is Extended Day? Extended Day provides supervised after-school care for K–5 students with time for homework, play, and themed activities up until 6:00 p.m.

2. How do I register and how are enrichment classes billed?

Register using the enrichment registration links in this brochure. Enrichment fees are billed to the student’s business-office account; Extended Day contract holders with coverage until 5:00 p.m. or later receive a 50% discount on enrichment classes.

3. When do enrichment classes meet?

Most fall enrichment classes meet once a week for about six weeks and begin the week of September 8, 2025. See the Fall Enrichments schedule for specific class dates and times.

A reminder email will be sent to families.

4. What if my child isn’t picked up at the end of an enrichment class?

Students not picked up at class dismissal will be taken to Extended Day in Deramus Field House and will incur the drop-in rate if they do not have a contract for that day.

5. How do drop-in visits work?

Drop-ins are accepted based on space and staff availability. Families are charged $21/hour.

6. How do I change or cancel my Extended Day contract?

Email businessoffice@pembrokehill.org to request contract changes; changes are processed according to the contract terms and subject to availability and billing adjustments.

7. What happens if a class or program is canceled or changed?

If Pembroke Hill modifies or cancels a class or program (for example, due to low enrollment), families will be notified promptly and no charges will be billed to student accounts for canceled offerings.

8. Are there childcare options when school is out (No-School Days)?

Yes — full-day care (7:45 AM–5:30 PM) and half-day options are offered on scheduled no-school days with themed programming. See the No-School Days section for dates and pricing.
