FITNESS & WELLNESS CLASSES

Registration opens online or in-person one week prior to each class. Space is limited. Classes take place at Pelham Recreation Center & are Free for members or $5/class drop-in. Classes are for 14 & Up unless otherwise specified

Barre May 2- Aug 29

Tuesday 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Friday 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

This low impact, energizing workout helps you create long, lean, powerful muscles & increase your flexibility. Classes include use of the ballet barre, hand weights, resistance bands & exercise balls. Exercises typically focus on small, pulsing movements with emphasis on form, alignment & core engagement. Please bring your own yoga mat. All fitness levels are welcome & encouraged!

Body Sculpt May 3- Aug 30

Saturday 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

This low impact workout helps define your entire body with an emphasis on the shoulders, arms, core & glutes. Please bring your own yoga mat. All fitness levels welcome & encouraged!

Boot Camp May 7- Aug 27

Wednesday 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

45-55 minute High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). You will use your entire body as you emphasize stretching, cardio, weights & floor work at all fitness levels. Please bring water & a hand towel.

In-Trinity Warrior 1 May 7- Aug 27

Wednesday 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

This class increases your flexibility & lean muscle mass, builds a stronger heart & relieves body aches & pains. You will move through traditional yoga stretches & martial arts agility sequences while elevated on a unique fitness board. Appropriate for all fitness levels. Please bring your own yoga mat.

Pilates May 5- Aug 25

Monday 7:15 a.m. – 8:15 a.m.

Pilates is a low impact class focused on mind-body exercises with an emphasis on core stability, strength & flexibility. Exercises involve the whole body using slow & controlled movements to work the core stabilizing muscles of the body.

Power Sculpt May 1- Aug 28

Thursday 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

This class will BUILD strong & lean muscles while incorporating “POWER” moves to help boost metabolism. Incorporates hand weights, balls & resistance bands. Come ready to feel the BURN & POWER UP your fitness.

Rev + Flow May 1- Aug 28

Tuesday 8:45 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.

Thursday 8:45 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.

This high intensity-low impact class is designed to improve your balance, flexibility & muscle tone. No running, jumping & pounding of joints is involved. Come enjoy fitness moves & floor exercises, with or without weights. Please bring your own mat.

Renew Active Exercise May 7- Aug 27

Age: 65 & Up

This class is designed to help senior adults increase muscle strength, broaden range of motion & improve activities for daily living. A chair is used for seated exercises & standing support. The class may be modified depending on fitness level.

Renew Active Yoga May 6- Aug 26

Tuesday 10:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

Age: 65 & Up

This class will move your whole body through a complete series of seated & standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance & range of motion. Restorative breathing exercises & final relaxation will promote stress reduction & mental clarity.

Yoga May 5 - Aug 25

Monday 5:30 p.m. – 6:45p.m.

This readily accessible vinyasa flow class mixes the power of physical yoga postures (asanas), deep breathing & mindfulness to take you on a journey to open your heart, quiet your mind & renew your spirit. All fitness levels are welcome. Please bring your own yoga mat.

Zumba May 3- Aug 30

Saturday 7:30 a.m. - 8:15 a.m.

Zumba® is an interval-style dance fitness party that combines low-intensity & high-intensity moves. You’ll burn lots of calories as you move to the rhythm with Latin-inspired dance moves. The best part is that it doesn’t even feel like exercise! Please bring water.

Fall softball is a less competitive learning program. Games & practices are played during the week. Games could be against teams from Alabaster, Calera, Chelsea, Columbiana, Helena, Jemison, Montevallo & Pelham. Practices begin at the end of Aug. Participants must be between the ages of 5-12 by Aug 31, 2025.

Cheerleading teaches our youth the fundamentals of cheerleading & positive sportsmanship. Practice days vary & games are played during the week against teams from surrounding communities. One practice per week guaranteed indoors on Sun afternoons.

CO-ED Youth Flag Football Aug-Oct

Flag football is open to GIRLS & BOYS! This fall program is designed to provide an opportunity for our youth to actively participate in learning the game of football while developing athletic skills. The focus of this program is on enjoyment of the game, participation & skill development. Partnering with NFL FLAG! Space is limited.

NHL Street Late June- early Aug

We are excited to partner with NHL Street again to bring this sport to Pelham! Emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship & fun as we grow the game of hockey. Practices & games will be on Tues & Thurs evenings. Spots are limited. Begins June 24.

This program emphasizes the basic fundamentals of the sport & emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship & fun. Practices will be Mon & Thurs. Games are played against teams from Pelham and surrounding communities including Homewood, Oak Mountain & more.

T-ball is the perfect introduction to baseball & softball for young players. Our instructional program, partnered with the Start Smart Development Program, helps children develop the primary skills of hitting, running, fielding & throwing in a fun & active environment.

Players begin to learn the basic rules of the game while also building self-esteem & learning sportsmanship & teamwork. Please purchase a metal T-ball bat & batting helmet that will be needed when games start. Players will be provided with an additional Start Smart kit that includes a non-metal bat, 2 Koosh balls & a fielding glove to help provide safer equipment in the early stage of skill development. Games & practices will be held during the week against teams from Pelham only.

Start Smart Soccer (Co-Ed) June 9-July 14

Start Smart Soccer is a developmentally appropriate introductory soccer program that prepares children for organized soccer in a fun, non-threatening environment.

Start Smart Soccer prepares children & their parents for organized soccer without competition or the fear of getting hurt. Age appropriate soccer equipment from Franklin Sports® & Kwik Goal is used to teach kicking, dribbling, trapping, throw ins & agility.

Parks & Rec provides participant a t-shirt & a participation manual, soft bounce soccer ball, cones & a set of shin guards.

Youth Volleyball Clinics June 10 & July 8

Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

This 3 hour clinic introduces basic skill development of indoor & sand volleyball as we spend time both indoor on the court & outdoor on the sand. Bring water, snacks, towel & tennis shoes/ socks for indoor & flip flops for after the sand.

Clinic will be run by Birmingham Beach Volleyball.

Youth Pickleball Clinic

Location: Pelham Recreation Center Gymnasium Learn the fastest growing sport in America. Join us for Youth Pickleball, currently being played in the schools. Learn the four basic shots: serve, volley, drives & the start to dinking. Basic strategy & court positioning will also be taught.

Indoor Pickleball July 2- Sept 29

Playing cards is good for our mental health & a great way to meet new friends. Hand & Foot is a popular variation from the rummy type game of Canasta & can be played with any number of players either individually or as partners. It’s easy to learn so just show up & enjoy a fun day of cards with new friends.

Line Dance Social

Come join the fun at this fall dance party! Two hours of dancing some of our favorite dances. Barbara, Kaye & Faye will do a one wall walk through of each dance to refresh your memory before the music begins. There will be plenty of dances for beginner, improver & intermediate level dancers. Fitness Forward

Move through a variety of exercises designed to improve overall quality of life. You will increase muscular strength, range of motion & functional fitness & balance. A variety of equipment will be used to offer resistance (hand-held weights & elastic tubing) as well as other techniques to strengthen the body. (balance, core strength, aerobic conditioning & stretching),

Cardio Drumming

Day: Mondays Dates: May 5 - August 25

Cost: $2/class Time: 11:30 a.m. - 12:15p.m.

Age: 55+ Location: Pelham Senior Center

This energizing, low-impact workout is set to music and as much fun as it is effective. You’ll use drumsticks and a stability ball to combine movement, rhythm, and fitness in a way that’s great for all fitness levels. This class can be done while sitting down.

NEW Ballroom Dancing

Day: Mondays Dates: May 5 - August 25

Cost: $5/class Time: 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Age: 55+ Location: Pelham Senior Center

Step into the rhythm! Join us for this class where the music is lively, the moves are smooth, and the fun never stops! Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or stepping onto the floor for the first time, this class is for you. No partner? No Problem! Just bring your dancing shoes and a smile. Space is limited.

Line Dancing (Intermediate)

Day: Tuesday Dates: May 6 - August 26

Cost: $2/class Time: 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Age: 55+ Location: Pelham Senior Center

This class is for you if you have been dancing for some time & have mastered complicated steps & upper body movements. Routines are 32 count, 48 count or 64 count. Music will be faster with multiple restarts & tags. The step combinations are less repetitive & have more variety. Intermediate dances offer varying degrees of challenge. Soft soled & closed toe shoes required. Space limited.

Line Dancing (Improver)

Day: Tuesday Dates: May 6 - August 26

Cost: $2/class Time: 11:45 am – 12:45 p.m.

Age: 55+ Location: Pelham Senior Center

This class is for you if you are an experienced beginner (between beginner & intermediate) & have mastered more complex steps & count changes with syncopation. Routines are 32 count, 48 count or 64 count. Dances are set to music & may include turns, multiple tags & secondary upper body movements. Soft soled & closed toe shoes required. Space limited. Register in person on the day of the class.

Line Dancing (Beginner)

Day: Tuesday Dates: May 6 - August 26

Cost: $2/class Time: 1:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

This class is for you if you have always wanted to learn to line dance. Basic line dance steps are broken down & put to music. Soft soled & closed toe shoes required. Space limited. Register in person on the day of the class.

Zumba Gold

Day: Wednesday Dates: May 7 - August 27

Cost: $2/class Time: 10:45 am - 11:45 am

Age: 55+ Location: Pelham Senior Center

Zumba Gold is a low-intensity cardio class. The choreography focuses on balance, range of motion & coordination. Come ready to sweat & prepare to leave empowered & feeling strong. Register in person on the day of the class.

Gentle Yoga

Day: Wednesday Dates: May 7 - August 27

Cost: $2/class Time: 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Age: 55 & Up Location: Pelham Senior Center

This class will help you decrease stress, tone muscle & build strength while improving posture, circulation, & concentration. All standing & floor poses can be modified to perform in a chair. Each class closes with a floor relaxation section that can also be beneficial in a chair. We encourage you to bring your own yoga mat. All levels are welcome. Space limited.

Pelham Promenaders (Square Dancing)

Day: 1st & 3rd Wednesdays Dates: May 7 - August 20

Cost: $2/class Time: 1:15 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.

Age: 55+ Location: Pelham Senior Center

Experienced & beginner square dancers are welcome. We have a wonderful caller who breaks the steps down & is easy to follow. Even if you have two left feet you can still learn to square dance!

Tai Chi

Day: Friday Dates: May 2 - August 29

Cost: $2/class Time: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Age: 55 & Up Location: Pelham Senior Center

Tai Chi is a graceful, slow-moving, mind & body art form. The benefits include mental clarity, improved balance & increased flexibility, strength, & range of motion. Space limited. Register in person on the day of the class.

NEW Pickleball 101

Day: Tuesday Dates: May 6, 13, 20, 27

Beginner Clinic: Have never played pickleball before. Learn the mechanics of the four basic shots used to build your game: drive, volley, serve & dinking. Players will be introduced to the basics of court coverage & playing patterns as well as topof-mind strategy & then will have the opportunity to try these new skills out with supervised play. Registration opens April 1.

Fun family activities: face painting, inflatables, balloons, hula hoop fun, rock wall, kids crafts, dunking booth, knockerball and more!

Youth sports parade: Cheer on our young athletes as they proudly march in the youth sports parade, showcasing teamwork, sportsmanship and community spirit.

Food trucks from savory to sweet, there’s no shortage of delicious treats to savor and enjoy.

Family Kickball Night

Day: Friday Date: June 13

Cost: $3/family member

Time 6:00 p.m. Game; 7:00 p.m. pizza and popsicles

Age: All ages Location: Pelham Rec Center Gym

Register the entire family for a night of kickball! Families pair up and play against other families in a friendly competition at Pelham Rec Center. Games will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by pizza and popsicles for all. NO experience necessary. Space limited. Advance registration required.

NEW Nerf Battle

Day: Friday Date: July 18

Cost: $5/child Time: 6:15 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Bring your Nerf gun and ammo for a Nerf battle (no gel pellets) at the Pelham Rec Center. All children must be accompanied by a parent during this event..Space limited. Advance registration required.

NEW Youth E-sports Tournament Night

Day: Friday Date: May 23/July 25

Cost: $3/participant Time: 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Age: 8 - 13 Location Pelham Rec Center MP Room

E-sports tournament night hosted at the Pelham Recreation, every other month. Each tournament will focus on one specific game. Games that we have: Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Kart 8, Nintendo Switch Sports, Madden, NCAA CFB, and more. Pizza and drinks will be provided. Registration currently open

Must present Silver Sneakers/Renew Active card. Allows individuals age 65+, access to walking track, weight/cardio equipment and Silver Sneakers certified group exercise classes.
