Dear Friends of Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, The 2013-2014 school year was one in which you helped shape the world of the young women of Forest Ridge. Our Annual Fund campaign, “Shape Her World,” was an outstanding success and we are deeply grateful to you for your support of our work.

Our Foundress St. Madeleine Sophie believed in cultivating the intellect by planting seeds in young minds to inspire and renew society. Today, more than 200 years later, our work centers on planting seeds of global awareness in the minds of our students.

Your generous gift helped shape the world of the students we teach.

Thanks to you, the amazing world in front of each student was brought ever-closer as our girls learned both to serve and to lead – and always with a global perspective. Thanks to you, we were able to enhance the learning experiences for our students in deeply meaningful ways:

• 7 th graders initiated Global Days to learn and brainstorm solutions for problems such as world hunger and water allocation

• 9 th graders traveled to the Arctic Circle to brainstorm solutions to the impacts of climate change

• 1 0th graders learned diplomacy and peace and reconciliation skills and practiced what they learned in Israel and the West Bank

• S tudents in 11th grade broadened their global perspective through the curricular options of Global Seminar and International Baccalaureate

As a school community, we also spent this year examining the spaces in which our young women learn with an eye toward exploring new options for our campus. We are excited about what the future might bring in terms of creating a more flexible and student-focused learning environment with community spaces that truly reflect the quality education taking place at Forest Ridge.

Your ongoing generosity will help make that vision possible, too. In the meantime, we remain by your willingness to support our efforts to provide the finest education possible for our students – who absolutely deserve the best.

What a great year we had! Once again we realized a significant gain in our annual giving. Thanks to you, we were able to accomplish:

• A necessary major renovation of the kitchen in our dining Commons

• The procurement of a much-needed small vehicle for our Forest Ridge fleet

• The distribution of 18 percent more scholarship funds

• The strengthening of our multiple programs in the Humanities through our Auction’s “Fund-A-Need”

These accomplishments are only the ones most easily identified. As you know, so much goes into making Forest Ridge the premier girls’ school in the Pacific Northwest and maintaining its margin of excellence among its peer schools.

From parental involvement to alumnae service, from phonathons to the annual Auction, from the classroom to the boardroom, the talent and treasure of so many members of our community have made all the difference in our success this year. Congratulations to all of you who contribute so generously and to our girls who work so hard and achieve so brilliantly. We Asked, and You Said Yes! “I didn’t think my $25 gift would make a difference,” said an alumna when called during the Alumnae Phonathon last fall.

This is an often heard — yet inaccurate — statement! Each gift, large or small, collectively makes a difference. Participation in annual giving by alumnae says Forest Ridge alumnae care about their alma mater and are grateful for the education they received.

It means when prospective families or philanthropic foundations look at our Annual Reports, they see that alumnae value their school. It means Forest Ridge can continue to provide an outstanding education to young women who will make a difference in the world.
