RICHARD WILSON Three Songs on Poems of John Ashbery for Baritone and Piano

THREE SONGS ON POEMS BY JOHN ASHBERY was composed in 2000 in honor of Margaret Creal Shafer, a close friend of both the poet and the composer.

Poems set include “This Room”, “The History of My Life” and “Otherwise.” The premiere occurred as part of a gala concert on September 9, 2000 which was dedicated to Margaret Shafer who for years was in charge of The Hudson Valley Chamber Music Circle. Robert Osborne was the baritone and Richard Wilson the pianist. John Ashbery read his poems as an introduction to the performance.
