JOSE SERE BR I ER nacio en Montevideo, Uruguay, en 1938.

Inicio SUS estudios de musica a los 9 aiios, y en 1951 ingreso a las clases de viol1n de Juan Fabbri y Miguel Pritsch, y de armon1a de Vicente Ascone, en la Escuela Municipal de Musica de su ciudad natal. Mas tarde paso al curso de composicion y direccion de orquesta de Guido Santorsola y, a los de piano, de Angela Riffaud y Sarah Bourdillon: Al fundarse el Conservatorio Nacional de Musica, en 1954, Serebrier paso a la clase de composicion del maestro Carlos Estrada. En 1956 siguio un curso especial con Aaron Copland, en Tanglewood, y otro con Vittorio Giannini, en el Instituto Curtis de Filadelfia. La lista de sus obras comprende sonatas para viol1n solo, un tr10 para cuerdas, un quinteto de vientos, 8 duos para violines, canciones con acompaiiamiento de piano, un cuarteto para saxofones¡, 2 suites para orquesta de cuerda, la Obertura Fantastica, premiada por el SOIBE (Servicio Oficial de Di fusion Radio Electrica), y otras obras para coros y music a de Camara.

He began studying music at the age of nine, and in 1951 enrolled at the Municipal School of Music in his native city, rdiere he studied violin with Juan Fabbri and Miguel Fritsch, and harmony with Vicente Ascone. Later he completed courses in composition and conducting with Guido Sant6rsola, and piano with Angela Riffaud and Sarah Bourdillon. When the National Conservatory of Music was established in 1954, Serebrier continued his study of composition there as a student of Carlos Estrada. His musical training includes also courses in 1956 at Tanglewood and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where hvs teachers were Aaron Copland and Vittorio Giannini, respectively. His works include sonatas for solo violin, a trio for strings, a wind quintet, eight duos for violins, songs with piano accompaniment, a quartet for saxophones, two suites for •string orchestra, the Obertura Fantastica, which was awarded a prize by s:JDRE ( Servicio Oficial de Difusi6n Radio Electrica) of Uruguay as well as various other choral works and chamher music. '
