Piccolo, celesta, and xylophone sound an octave higher than the written pitch. bass clarinet, contrabassoon, electric guitar, bass, and electric bass all sound an octave lower than the written pitch.

When in bass clef, the horn part is written in " new " notation, so that it sounds as written (transposed down a fifth to F).

Acoustic string instruments should be amplified with external microphones. Pickups on the strings are less preferable, but possible. Electric instruments are least preferable. In general , the player should avoid splitting " glisses whenever possible, except as notated. The same basic rule applies for positions on the trombone.
