SERMON OUTLINE WHAT YOU WERE MADE FOR

Your Design, Your Calling, and Why Cultivation Is So Hard. Genesis 1:3

1. You Were Made to Bear Fruit God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful…’ – Genesis 1:28

2. You Were Planted to Grow Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground … – Genesis 2:8-9

3. You Are Called to Cultivate The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. – Genesis 2:15

4. You Are Free Within Loving Limits And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die. – Genesis 2:16-17

5. You Will Have Help (and not be alone) It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. Genesis 2:18

6. You Will Be Frustrated (and covered in grace). Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return. – Genesis 3:17-19 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. Genesis 3:21
