Lighting of the Candles/Placement of the Bible Prayer of Confession Merciful God, throughout your word you invite us to wait patiently on you and to live as glad and hopeful people. We confess today that at times we have been defiant in our refusal to wait on you. Our waiting evokes disappointment rather than gladness. We are easily embittered over circumstances that we cannot control. We find it hard to live with faithful patience. Forgive us, O God, and grant to us the gift of resting in you.

Our days and our plans are in your hand. We relinquish them yet again as we continue our confession in silence…
