The Lake

On a walk in someplace new I noticed movement and a couple appeared on the other side of the street and behind them a gap between two buildings and between the buildings a flash of blue and a sailboat bobbing gently

I walked until I came to the water with its colour that mirrored the sky until the horizon zipped them up together and now in front of me and now around myself enough people to feel a second-hand sort of excitement.

Everyone was very old or very young the elderly sat on benches overlooking the lake and the sailboats and the larger ships in the distance while small children ventured fearlessly to the waves rolling up their pants and stepping in.
