The Southern Belle from ATL is Werqing the World, dahling!

The queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race are turning it — turning outfits, performances and even turning time! — in their all new 2022 production of Werq the World, touring over 50 major cities in the USA this summer and playing the largest arenas including Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium and New York City’s Radio City Music Hall! The tour lands in Atlanta on Wednesday, July 13th at The Eastern.
“This is the biggest, most spectacular production we have ever created,” says the show’s producer, Brandon Voss. “The music, sets, fashion, choreography and lighting are like nothing fans of drag have ever even dreamed of seeing before.”
Werq the World stars RuPaul’s Drag Race favorites Kameron Michaels, Rose, Vanessa Vanjie, Yvie Oddly and all of the finalists from the show’s fourteenth season including Bosco, Daya Betty, Jorgeous, Lady Camden, Willow Pill and, of course, the Southern belle from ATL, Angeria Paris VanMicheals.
We spoke with our hometown queen as she was preparing for the tour.
Hello Southern belle from ATL! You did your hometown proud on RuPaul’s Drag Race!
Angeria Paris VanMicheals: My journey on season fourteen was amazing and something I will cherish for the rest of my life. I surprised myself in so many ways throughout the season. I’m genuinely proud of what I presented to the world.

Angeria: I have never been to a Werq the World Show!
You haven’t? It’s the official RuPaul’s Drag Race tour!
Angeria: I’ve always wanted to attend. I couldn’t get tickets. But look at me now. I get to be a part of it!
What is your role in the 2022 show?
Angeria: I will be one of the amazing, time traveling divas. I have some very glamorous and high energy numbers in store for everyone.
Is Werq the World much different than your typical drag performances?
Angeria: Werq the World is much different. There are many, many more people in the audience!
Will this be your first time performing at The Eastern?
Angeria: Yes, I normally perform at clubs and bars such as Future Atlanta and The Marquette Lounge. The Eastern is much larger than any venue I have performed at in Atlanta.
Are you excited to perform for your hometown fans?
Angeria: I am so excited to perform for my city! This will be my first time performing here since the season ended.
What do you love most about living in the ATL?
Angeria: I feel very proud to live in Atlanta! The LGBTQ+ community is large and beautiful. Also, living in Atlanta gives both the country and city vibes that I love.
Final message for your Atlanta fans?
Angeria: Thank you so much for always supporting me, your hometown queen. I am so happy to be the Atlanta representation on Season 14 and I’m so thrilled that I made my city proud, which was always the goal.

DJ Mike Pope has always had a passion for dance music and has been spinning in the Atlanta area since 2006. Learning the ropes and spinning alongside well known international DJ’s like Tony Moran, Joe Gauthreaux, Tracy Young, Roland Belmares and Johnny Vicious has helped DJ Mike Pope develop his own style in the DJ booth.
One of a handful of Billboard reporting DJs in the nation and the only Billboard DJ in the state of Georgia for the last 3 years, Pope has garnered recognition from peers and music industry professionals. Nominated as one of the “Best Up & Coming DJs” for the 2011 JustCircuit Awards, DJ Mike Pope has also won many local Atlanta area awards as well as recognition for help with non-profit
In 2010 he began his first residency at Heretic Atlanta, and during his four years there, he has developed a large loyal following that continues to grow week after week. He has DJ’d at virtually every bar and nightclub in the Atlanta area including XION, Atlanta Eagle, Blakes On The Park, Jungle Nightclub, Opera Nightclub, Amsterdam and Halo Ultra Lounge.
Outside of the Atlanta area, DJ Mike Pope has DJ’d at various nightclubs and bars including Cathode Azure (Charlotte), Marigny (Charlotte), Nowhere Bar (Louisville, KY) and Catalina Hotel & Beach Club (Miami). Pope has also spun numerous large music events including Joining Hearts, Change Of Seasons (Atlanta), Charlotte Pride, Wonder World Orlando, Rites Of Spring (Birmingham, AL) and Winter Music Conference (Miami, FL).
DJ Mike Pope’s musical style is influenced by circuit, tribal and progressive house sounds as well as top 40 commercial dance. He has proven to be a very versatile DJ that can spin tea dance, peak hour and after hours sets and always takes the crowd on a musical journey. His podcasts have been featured on GayInternetRadioLive.com and AddictedToRadio.com.
PEACH. How would you describe your sound?
MP: My sound started off in 2007 big vocal anthems but over the years I’ve played so many different types of parties, that I range from house to disco to tribal to 80s, 90s and current pop music. I love the diversity in my sets so that I’m not just labeled with one genre.
PEACH: Are there any artists that you currently have on repeat or you’re inspired by?
MP: In my car, I’ve got my EDM fix with BPM on SiriusXM. When prepping for my club sets I’m inspired by the likes of Tony Moran, Mauro Mozart, Edson Pride, Rosabel, Mark Knight, and the list goes on. Anything by Madonna, Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga!
PEACH: What makes for a great set?
MP: I always believe that the DJ’s job is to take you on a journey and connect with the crowd. There’s a beginning, middle and end and I love it when I can pull off that energy build that happens over a 5 hour set. I’ve been inspired by other DJs that use this formula and it’s the story-telling talent that equals a great set.
PEACH: What’s a favorite venue that you’ve played where the crowd always brings good energy?
MP: I’m partial to the Heretic where I’ve had my DJ residency at since 2010. So many amazing memories over the years and the crowd always gives so much back to me with their enthusiasm on the dance floor.
PEACH: What does Pride mean to you as a LGBTQ+ DJ?
MP" Being united. Our community coming together not just during a Pride parade, but coming together on the dance floor. As a DJ that continues to DJ for almost exclusively gay audiences, Pride reminds me of where I belong. There’s pride in being a gay DJ and I’m thankful for that.

Other than his intense love for being behind the decks, DJ Seth Breezy also has an incredible entrepreneurial spirit. He is in the process of building his own brand--which already has successful parties under its belt. Seth has blown up the Atlanta scene and hopes to expand his influences to the rest of the country and internationally. Seth also has aspirations of one day having his own Record Label.

PEACH. How would you describe your sound?
SB: I would describe my sounds as a rhythmic blend of tribal drums, rich baselines, and uplifting vocals
PEACH: Are there any artists that you currently have on repeat or you’re inspired by?
SB: John summit is an artist right now that im really intrigued by.
PEACH: What makes for a great set?
SB: A great set is one that takes the listener on a journey. Appropriate peaks and valleys are fundamental to achieving this.
PEACH: What’s a favorite venue that you’ve played where the crowd always brings good energy?
SB: Favorite venue so far would have to be Masquerade. I had the pleasure of spinning peach party 21 there and we lit that place up!
PEACH: What does Pride mean to you as a LGBTQ+ DJ?
SB: Pride for me as LBGTQ DJ means to celebrate our freedom! It truly is a gift to travel the world and celebrate what so many before us fought for!
ARIES: Pride Month is here and your energy for the month is tenacity. You have always pushed forward and always made sure that you reached the finish line. This week should be no different.
TAURUS: Pride Month is here and your energy for the month is determination. Most people may say that you’re hard headed but you see yourself as determined to stand your ground. So do that.
GEMINI: Pride Month for you is centered around the idea of passion. Whatever passion means to you, take that and run with it. Passion can come in many forms, and this month you decide how to express it!
CANCER: Pride Month is all about you protecting the integrity of who you are and those around you. You cannot live your authentic self if you do not know who you are. Luckily, you do and this month you are here to protect yourself and that expression.
LEO: Pride Month is just that for you PRIDE MONTH! Strut your stuff this week and all this month as you live your truest life and truest self. If you can’t do that, then what can you do?

Out Down South: Queer Storytelling Showcase @ OutFront | JUNE 24th, 2022 (8 PM)
The Out Down South podcast is coming soon to speakers near you, and to kick things off, we’re hosting a showcase of Atlanta’s best queer talent! Join us at Out Front Theatre Company on Friday, June 24th at 8 pm for the queerest of evenings, starring an all-LGBTQ+ roster of storytellers, comedians, drag performers, and musicians.

The Atlanta LGBTQ+ History Project has been creating oral histories with a diverse array of honored queer Atlantans, and we’re thrilled to bring these amazing stories to you through the Out Down South Podcast. The Atlanta LGBTQ+ History Project is a collaborative, multimedia exhibit and archival collection, celebrating and preserving the stories of courageous LGBTQ+ Atlantans who changed the landscape of this city’s life and culture. Religious leaders, politicians, activists, artists, and business owners share stories in their own voices, reflecting on their lives, legacies, and the city they helped create.
A collaboration between Wussy Mag and the LGBTQ+ Center at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, the Atlanta LGBTQ+ History Project includes oral history, photography, and other archival material, shared with the community via digital and live exhibits, the Out Down South podcast, and a panel series on the preservation of LGBTQ+ history throughout the Southeast, featuring local scholars, activists, and artists.
