We click outside of the bedroom too but I am new to dating after being single for YEARS. How can I get to know him more and really know who he is and if he is the one for me?
Well,
I am extremely glad that you click sexually first and foremost, because if the sex isn't good... I personally don't think it will work. You might have a strong connection elsewhere, but unless you agree to be open... you are both going to have needs that have to be met.
That being said: take him out. Wine and dine him a bit and see where he wants to go. See if he reciprocates and takes you out on a dinner date as you did him. Do not assume that there has to be one person in the relationship that is taking the brunt of the responsibility of planning dates, and outings. You can and should take the lead on some of these plans so he can see what interests you too.
Take it easy. Take it slow. Let the onion peel back one layer at a time.

“Christmas is for the kids,” they cry. Well, straight people, at least. Because while Christmas was a hoot for us gays as children, it doesn’t compare to celebrating the “reason for the season” – shirtless holiday-party bartenders! – as dude-lovin’ adult men with eggnog to guzzle and hot guys to nuzzle. Just how does Baby Jesus’ birthday make the yuletide gay-er? Let me count the ways.
1. TV is overflowing with the gay(ish) festive specials and movies we love
We all have that one holiday program or movie that holds a special place in our hearts. “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” is high on my list (it stays on my DVR year round, in fact) with “Home Alone” (1 and 2) not far behind – modern classics, both of ’em. I also enjoy some of the Christmas cartoons that were popular back in my day – waaaay back in the 1980s – like “A Garfield Christmas,” “The Smurfs’ Christmas Special,” and a “Chipmunk Christmas” (which, I have to note, bring back fond memories, but get no points for title creativity). And, of course, who can forget the required gay viewing of 1963’s “Judy Garland Christmas Show,” where a middle-aged Dorothy and her kids sing and dance to holiday standards – presumably drunk AF (Judy; not her kids – OK, maybe Liza) – to the delight of millions. You know that B was a blast at the MGM company party.
2. Christmas music is our jam!
Ask the DJ to play Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas” in a gay club anytime after Thanksgiving and watch what happens – live. Pandemonium will ensue – lady-boys will literally lose their shit right in front of you – and perhaps deservedly so: Mimi has topped Billboard’s Holiday 100 chart since its inception with her peppy 1994 jingle, and this year is no exception. Dive deeper into this list, and everything looks familiar: Brenda Lee’s 1958 classic “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song,” Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock,” and Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas.”
And you know every word!
Because, unlike that lumbersexual beard you’ve got growing on your mug or the man-bun that’s making you bald, good taste in upbeat music never goes out of style.
3. Nobody rocks ugly Christmas sweaters like we do
Gays have been making ugly Christmas sweaters chic since before they became an industry unto their own in the mid-to-late aughts. Nowadays there are themed 5ks, festivals, and cabarets to celebrate the most hideous holiday jumpers of them all (some of which feature 3-D plush animals or light up), and there’s even a National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day – the third Friday of December; this year it’s Dec. 17 – to help get everyone in the spirit (or just so you’ll buy more sweaters since the trend has evolved into a multimillion-dollar business).
But you don’t know nothin’ about that.
Because like a proper OG, you still get your original, one-of-a-kind UCS at the thrift shop before taking it home to embellish that joint with enough sequin, ribbons, and ornaments to squeeze a tear out of Tim Gunn’s tight little face. Go ahead with your bad self. Make it work!
4. We get to shop like it’s our J-O-B
I won’t speak for you, but I was born for Black Friday. I practice all year leading up to the holiday season by scouting the best sales, stacking my coupons, and generally scouring racks upon racks of clothing,
shoes, and accessories so I can look my best. Then Christmas comes along (or Hanukkah, if that’s your thing) and I get to use my God-given talents for the greater good as I scoop up gifts galore, always at discount prices.
Yes sir, if shopping were a marathon, my name would be Albert Korir. First across the finish line with the most coveted, brush-your-shoulder-off Christmas presents you’ll unwrap all year.
Move over, Santa. Guncle Mikey is comin’ to town.
5. All the parties for which we get to dress for our lives
At no other time of year is it more appropriate to wear the most outrageous business-casual and formal wear this side of RuPaul’s walk-in – to places where you’ll actually be seen.
So if you’ve got it, honey, flaunt it at Christmas.
Nobody bats a falsie at your suede slacks, bedazzled vests, rhinestone ties, or gold-lamé lapels when tinsel is on the tree and mulled wine is on the menu. Nobody you care about anyway. In fact, your friends and loved ones have come to expect your effervescent ensembles – and they’re pretty much gutted whenever you keep it conservative – and that in itself is the best gift they can give you.
6. The two-for-one gifts that we buy for our partners
My boyfriend is notorious for not knowing what he wants for Christmas, or waiting until the last minute to tell me, forcing me, so late in the season, to spend a quarter of his gift budget on shipping fees. Me, on the hand – well, my list is categorized, itemized, alphabetized, and finalized by early November. Signed, sealed, delivered. And this is where I’m gonna let you in on a little secret. Since my husband also waits until the very last minute to buy my gifts, some of which are unavailable to ship or just plain sold out by the time he orders them (the genesis of several stink-eyes and sad faces on Dec. 25 over the past 10 years), I’ve devised a plan to keep us both happy on Christmas morning: I buy the things I want, wrap them up, and give them to him. He’s super appreciative at how thoughtful I am given the limited ideas I was provided, and I’m over here subconsciously patting myself on my back – because as soon as he turns his, those goodies come back to Daddy.
Don’t judge – you know you do it, too.
7. Commandeering each other’s gift from other givers
Every gay couple – especially all you same-size gents out there – knows what’s up right here: One gift, dual usage. Everything from button-downs and blazers to coats and colognes become joint property as soon as it gets home. But the giving tree doesn’t stop there. The video games from your cousin, that car-cleaning kit from your pop, even the grooming products from your bestie – all up for grabs. And it goes without saying that we’re eager to share our stashes among ourselves – because we love each other… and sometimes our boo gets something we really, really like when all we got were socks.

A queen with a rich and vibrant history, Fontaine (featured on Seasons 8 and 9 of RuPauls Drag Race) has taken her career from Puerto Rico to Austin. She started her career inspired by pageant queens past, but Fontaine has made a name for herself as well as her “cucu” (her signature phrase on the show) by being a queen that is relatable, funny, and genuine.
Peach: Thank you so much for talking to me today! You are honestly one of my favorite queens from the show. I feel like you represent such a different subset of the pageant world that is genuinely nice and believes in the sisterhood.
CLF: Wow, thank you so much! That really means a lot!
Throughout her time on Season 8, Fontaine was seen as a lovable queen who truly brought up the energy in the room however her time on Season 9 after winning Miss. Congeniality on her original season, really showed us the lovable side of CLF and put her on the map. We talked about various topics including politics, music and where the future of drag is going.

Peach: You had some health complications while on the show but came out a survivor in the end, do you think that helped with your determination on the show?
CLF: Absolutely. I think that going through the health scare and recovering from that really showed me how I can overcome problems around me and keep pushing through.
Peach: During your time on the show, what do you think you could have done different?
CLF: I would have done more research for Snatch Game and made sure I was more well prepared for it. On the show, it sounded like I was saying a bunch of nonsense but I was essentially translating the jokes in my head from Spanish to English so it didn’t come across the same.
Peach: You spoke about the connection you had with Acid Betty on the reunion of Season 8, do you have that same connection with any of the other queens on either Season?
CLF: I do! Even though my main season was Season 8, and I do love my season sisters… when I came back for Season 9, I felt like I had more of a connection with them. To this day, we still talk and I am in group chats with sisters from nine. It’s not anything against those on 8, but I just connect with Season 9!
Peach: What do you think is important for a queen to have longevity like yourself this day in age? Queens are releasing music (which we will talk about in a moment), they’re appearing on new television shows online and live, all the tours with World of Wonder… where do you think drag is going?
CLF: So, looking at music for example, there have been so many queens who have produced music before I even made it on the show. My sisters Alaska, Trixie, Sharon Needles have all hd some really amazing drag careers that include their music. I think you need to be at the forefront of what is happening in order to really keep people engaged. As, drag queens we are very involved in our communities and we can bring to light what is important because of the platform we are given… from drag race to our music, etc. Drag is taking over the world…
Peach: So you’re saying drag is political in a sense?
CLF: Absolutely! I hope that one day we can even see a drag queen in office. We already have so many amazing politicians who are part of the LGBTQIA community, that it can only go further! We have Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson who were at the start of the gay rights movement, and without those trans individuals we wouldn’t have drag either. They paved the way for us and we have a duty to continue fighting for what is right.
Peach: I love that. I am from Orlando, and I think that in the wake of the Pulse Orlando shooting, which you and Trinity spoke briefly about on Season 9… there was a wave of queens that I personally saw in the Orlando bars who truly rushed to be by their patrons’ sides. They were a source of laughter and comfort when we lost that safety.
CLF: For sure.
Peach: Lets talk about your music career, what do you have in store for us?
CLF: Well I have been producing music for a while now and I love it. What I didn’t really get to show on the competition was that I truly love singing. I have been singing for 25+ years and I didn’t get to show that, so I regret that a bit. But I am looking forward to putting out more music and releasing a full EP in the future. My song “Bring Me The Holidays” is out right now and is meant to make people happy in a time when so many of us haven’t been with the pandemic and such.
Peach: How do you feel about the new show “Queen of the Universe” that is about to launch?
CLF: ANYTHING to bring more positive light to the drag art form, I love. I am so excited for JujuBe and Trixie, and even Ava Vox who is a sister queen who I have known for years and was on American Idol. It is a World of Wonder production, so they have a beautiful set and it is going to be so amazing.
Peach: Would you ever audition?
CLF: Well of course! I would love to audition. If the show gets renewed after this season, I would definitely try out!
Peach: Final question: All Stars? Would you or wouldn’t you?
CLF: Absolutely! If RuPaul called tomorrow and asked me to come back for All Stars I would. I loved what I experienced on the show, and I would definitely love to be on the show again.
Peach: Well, Cynthia thank you so much! You truly are a gorgeous queen and I think you represent a lot of people in the world who see themselves in you. Thank you for taking time to chat today! We look forward to seeing you on All Stars, hopefully!
