Take it to the Top
A capstone moment for our community Since its construction in 1968, the eight-story tower at PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center has been the place you and your family have counted on for quality health care close to home, from minor procedures to major surgeries. It has also served as the birthplace for thousands of new Cowlitz County members. And, as we continue navigating through a global pandemic, the community can continue to count on us to deliver compassionate care to all we serve. We now begin the renovation of the 8th floor—the last floor of the tower restoration project— and we invite you to take it to the top with us to ensure PeaceHealth St. John stays strong for our community for decades to come.

outcomes, this $16.7 million project will reimagine the care experience for patients on the 8th floor. PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center Foundation seeks to raise $1.6 million in community support to help modernize and privatize patient rooms on this top floor—the final floor to complete the fully-renovated tower.
Rooms designed by caregivers
20 new private rooms will provide comfortable and confidential space for patients and their families.
At each stage of the planning process, our local caregivers provided key insight into their workflow, equipment specifications, ideal room layout, technology needs and patient requests. The resulting caregiver-designed rooms have been thoughtfully planned to ensure the very best care experience for patients and their families.
Key project highlights Modern patient rooms
Each of the patient rooms will include colors and patterns that echo the Pacific Northwest’s beautiful environment and promote a sense of comfort and healing.
Very often the nature of what a patient wants to talk about is very tender. When another patient is in the room, there is no space for these urgent, deeply personal conversations. — Gordon MacDonald,

The 8th floor truly is central to the care provided across the hospital, and the care provided here will touch so many lives. For everything from a knee replacement to kidney surgery, any family in our region at some point could have a reason for a loved one to receive care here. We want it to be a space the community is proud of, with a calming environment that promotes rest, lessens anxiety and speeds recovery for our patients.
