A note from your Neighbourhood Manager

Working together for better neighbourhoods

We hope you're keeping well as we head into the colder months.

We're introducing our Better Neighbourhoods programme in February, bringing our local teams together to help make our estates cleaner, safer and more welcoming places to live.

We'd like to thank residents for continuing to play their part in making Ching Way a welcoming place to live. Looking after our shared spaces and being considerate of our neighbours can make a real difference to everyday life on the estate. By working together, we can help keep our neighbourhood clean, safe and enjoyable for everyone. We're continuing to work with our local teams and partners to identify areas for improvement and address the issues that matter most to residents. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. With best wishes, Shayna Neighbourhood Manager

The programme will see our Neighbourhood Managers, Estate Services and other teams working more closely together to identify areas that need attention and tackle issues affecting residents. By carrying out regular estate visits and sharing information, our teams will be able to spot problems earlier, agree what needs to be done and keep track of improvements. Better communication is also a key part of the programme. We want residents to know what we're working on, how things are progressing and when issues have been resolved. Look out for more information about Better Neighbourhoods in February, including how the programme will help improve your local area.

New Salisbury Manor Community Hub opens its doors The newly refurbished Salisbury Manor Community Hub has officially opened, offering a welcoming space for local people of all ages to meet, learn new skills and enjoy activities together. Based at Salisbury Manor Primary School, the hub has been transformed into a permanent community space, thanks to support from Peabody Community Foundation, United Communities and a range of local partners. Residents joined the opening celebrations, enjoying arts and crafts, games, food and live music. Children also received free backto-school supplies, while families shared their ideas for future activities.

Check your heating Before the cold weather arrives, take a few minutes to check that your boiler and heating are working properly. Simply turn on your heating and hot water and make sure everything fires up as expected. Testing your system early can help identify any issues before temperatures drop and demand for repairs increases. If there is a problem, you'll have more time to arrange a repair and avoid long waits during the busiest time of year.

There's plenty to look forward to, with activities including yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba, dance and karate, alongside a youth club, craft and chat sessions and a weekly Public Living Room. The hub has been shaped by feedback from local residents and community groups, helping to create a space where neighbours can connect, make friends and try something new. We look forward to seeing the hub become a thriving part of the local community!

A quick check now could make all the difference later. No one wants to start winter in a cold home without heating or hot water. By acting now, you can stay one step ahead and make sure your home is warm, comfortable and ready for the colder months.

Help keep our community safe Everyone deserves to feel safe in their neighbourhood. Waltham Forest Council offers several ways for residents to report concerns, including antisocial behaviour, hate crime and street harassment. If you're experiencing antisocial behaviour, you can report it to the council at walthamforest.gov.uk/reportASB.

The council's Safe Streets app also allows residents to report incidents of street harassment, including anonymously, and access specialist support.

Click here or scan the QR Code to download the Safe Streets app

For other community safety concerns, you can contact the council's Community Safety Team at communitysafety@walthamforest.gov.uk. You can also report non-emergency incidents to the police by calling 101. If someone is in immediate danger or a crime is taking place, always call 999. By reporting concerns, you can help make Ching Way a safer and more welcoming place for everyone.

Helping keep Ching Way clean and tidy

E-bike and e-scooter safety: help prevent fires

Fly-tipping continues to be a concern in the neighbourhood, and we're working with Waltham Forest Council to help tackle the issue and keep our shared spaces clean.

Fires involving lithium batteries are one of the fastest growing fire risks in London. Fires involving e-bikes and e-scooters rose from 31 in 2020, 78 in 2021, 116 in 2022, 179 in 2023, 171 in 2024 and to 206 in 2025.London Fire Brigade attends, on average, an e-bike or escooter fire once every two days.

As part of this work, the council carries out collections of fly-tipped waste on Thursdays, helping to clear rubbish that has been left around the estate. We know how frustrating dumped rubbish can be for residents, and we're committed to working with our local partners to improve the appearance of the neighbourhood. Keeping our shared spaces clean makes a difference to everyone who lives here, and we appreciate residents' support in helping us look after the estate.

Whilst e-bikes and e-scooters offer a great way round the city, their batteries can start incredibly ferocious fires when damaged. Within minutes a battery fire can spread dangerously out of control. Stay safe and: Don't charge your batteries by your front door or any other escape route Never charge your batteries when you are asleep Only buy your batteries and charger from a reputable seller
