It is indeed our pleasure to welcome you to the World Charolais Congress “Genetics for The World” Sale. I must commend the breeders who wanted to participate in this event that only occurs in Canada every few decades, whether it was by displaying your operation at one of the many events across Canada, as a consignor to the sale, or by attending the sale in person or online. Everyone is welcome at any of the events. The last time the World Congress was in Canada was in 2006.

We welcome the world and everyone in Canada to look at the outstanding, front running genetics that have been put forth in this sale. These genetics represent the diversity of Canadian Charolais that have been selected for over 70 years since the breed came to Canada. There is a broad spectrum of Canadian developed genetics from Full French to Red Factor that we believe can work in many parts of the globe.

Our cow herd has been developed over the past 50+ years. The fundamental building blocks of our program are our females. As you look through the pedigrees, you will find many repeat cow families. Years and years of strategic breeding and selection have built our current cowherd of 160 breeding females. We strive for mothers that are sound structured, efficient, fertile and motherly, with quality udders and good dispositions. Great bulls come from great cows.

Our replacement heifer pen is just as important as the bull pen. This is the future of our herd. We run a strict quality control program and cull hard. We only keep the best and cull the rest. We love her for these attributes and what absolutely sets her apart from the crowd is just how sound and correct footed she is. Kenworth’s full sister and Georgia’s natural SVY Trust 6H two-year old daughters are in a league of their own. On our way to the CCYA Junior Show at the end of July in 2019 we stopped in to tour Cedarlea Charolais on our way to Weyburn. When touring, we spotted this cream coloured two year old and her cream coloured Affinity bull calf in the pasture. As we walked around the pasture I walked over to my wife and said “Did you just see what I saw?” She said yes and that we needed to get that two year old bought! Well before the Junior show was done we struck a deal and Wren 13E and her calf were on their way home to our place. We decided to get her ready to show at Farmfair in Edmonton that fall. As we started halter breaking and getting her ready for the fall show we slowly noticed that her and her bull calf were starting to get darker in colour. To our surprise, by the time we got to the show in November the pair were full red factor in colour! They were also Senior Champion Female at the show!

Now that she has been at our place she does the same colour change every year, red in the winter and cream colour in the summer. She has always been bred to white bulls but each flush produces some cream/red coloured offspring.
