W
elcome to the 15th Annual North of the 49th Bull Sale. Each year when I sit down to write the welcome, I find myself reminiscing and reflecting on how we have evolved over the years. I can still remember when Dad decided we were going to have our own bull sale, 15 years ago. Thank you to our past friends and customers; we certainly wouldn’t have come this far without you. If you are viewing our catalogue for the first time, thank you for your consideration of this year’s bull pen. If you have sat in on any feeder sales this past fall or spring, or are following the markets, you’ll know that the Charolais influence calves are bringing a premium. In a market place where $.10/lb can be the difference in breaking even, using a Charolais bull to gain that difference is a very simple way to start. Pounds still pay the bills. Our bulls will add pounds to your calf crop and not sacrifice calving ease. Our herd is built on functionality. 2017 was far from what we would consider a normal year for us. It was quite dry and made finding a winter feed source a very interesting task. We were fortunate enough to find straw and some crops within a close proximity of the ranch. Our feed program is consistent with what has worked for our customers. We feed a balanced total mixed ration from weaning to delivery date. The bulls are managed for longevity and athleticism; we have a target average daily gain of 3 to 3.5 lbs per day. Downtown was our high selling bull in 2016. His first sons are more than impressive with their performance, structure, and thick hair coats. The Velocity sire group is, hands down, the best set we have raised off of him. It takes more than one year to find the right type of cows to really compliment a bull. The Blackjack calves are as strong as any in the sale. They combine phenotype, performance, and sound structure. Throughout the catalogue you’ll find several other sire groups that bring something valuable to the table including some red factor and calving ease bulls. We strive for customer satisfaction, and service what we sell. We take a lot of pride in our product and stand behind our bulls being a guaranteed breeder. Our breeding warranty is simple; just give us a call if things don’t work out and we will make sure you have a bull to breed your cows. We invite you to the ranch to tour the bulls and cow herd anytime. Join us the afternoon before the sale on Sunday, April 1st, to view the bulls and enjoy some refreshments. Plan to arrive early on sale day. The coffee will be hot and lunch will be served prior to the sale. If you Brenda Wilgenbusch are unable to attend, but would 306-458-2688 like to participate, viewing and bidding will be available through Box 4, Halbrite, SK S0C 1H0 DLMS. As always, our sight unseen program can find the bull to wilgenbusch@sasktel.net suit your needs, satisfaction guaranteed. We encourage you to call ahead a day or two prior to the sale, to allow us to answer Craig, Tricia & Harper @WilgenbuschChar any questions about the bulls. Wilgenbusch • 306-458-7482 www.wilgenbuschcharolais.com We hope to see you on April 2nd. ctwilgenbusch@hotmail.com Wilgenbusch-Charolais
Welcome to the 15th Annual North of the 49th Bull Sale. In some ways it doesn’t seem that long ago this sale got started, the year after BSE was discovered in Canada. That is the Wilgenbusch spirit though, when things look tough, you charge ahead harder than before and make things better. The fruits of the decades of labour are shown in this sale offering. There are some fresh new genetics, like sons of the 2016 high seller JWX Downtown that are very impressive. The sons of Elder’s Blackjack are a great sire group and he is proving to be a superior breeding bull wherever he is used. There are also some time proven bloodlines that won’t let you down like Velocity, Pastor, Gridmaker and Pierce. They DNA tested and have many homozygous polled bulls identified for you in the catalogue. They Leptin tested some of the bulls and all the Ultrasound information is included in the catalogue again this year.
The two-year olds in the offering are not left overs, but bulls that were set aside after weaning in the fall of 2016 and developed slowly to make sure they go out, cover a lot of cows and last. They always have extra bulls around so you can buy with confidence knowing that they will make sure you have a bull to get your cows bred. The hospitality is excellent and they would welcome a visit before the sale if you can’t make it sale day. The sale will be broadcast again live on www.dlms.ca, so if you can’t make it to the sale you can bid online. Be sure to register early if you are using this service. If Candace or I can be of any assistance before the sale or on sale day, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We would be happy to find you bulls that are right for your program. Sincerely, Helge & Candace By By Livestock• 306.584.7937 cell 306.536.4261

Executive is one of the most complete calves in the sale. This bull is extremely balanced, thick topped, broad headed, and loaded with performance. The foot structure under this individual is superior. Executive has the depth of rib and hip structure to sire an impressive set of calves. Velocity is doing a tremendous job stamping his calves with that square hook to pin structure and ideal heel set. His Silver Bullet dam is no stranger to raising the good ones, her Double Down daughter was one of our female sale highlights selling to Wilkie Charolais.

Let this bull Engineer your next calf crop. Phenotypically, this is one of the strongest Velocity sons to date. The square structure, hip length, overall thickness and stout base to this bull is impressive. You really have to admire the overall power he possesses but yet maintains that fresh front end. Engineer has a hair coat like no other, his bone mass is impressive, this bull brings a lot to the table in terms of a breeding tool.

Eldorado is a feature bull for so many reasons; when you want to talk about one with a “look”, this bull rises to the top quite handily. He is a bull that we have admired all year long. One thing is for sure with the Downtown offspring; they are like wine and just get better with age. The stride on this bull is impressive, he has the skull structure, thickness, and foot structure to be an icon in many pastures. The Downtowns are expressing greater lower dimension than any bull we have used to date.

865E-Here is a real treasure. Equalizer is one of the feature Downtown sons on offer. This bull commands attention with his shear stoutness, depth of quarter, and huge muscle expression. We really appreciate the presence this bull has. He moves out so well on a set of square feet with plenty of heel.
Maternally, his Silver Buckle dam is one of the real pristine females in the Charolais breed. We purchased a flush in her from Elder Charolais and she raised the Zeus bull we used on the ranch here for many years. Equalizer is a very unique breeding tool in our eyes, not very often do you get a bull of this type with pedigree on both sides that has been highly successful.

This Pierce son…no it’s not a typo, a Pierce son. We dug back in the tank and used the old faithful
again. I have a tough time not resorting back to using the old bull. Pierce was a bull way ahead of his time. When you talk to guys who have used Pierce sons, they still comment on how good they turned out. Exchanger is loaded with muscle, thickness, huge base, and full of red meat. The hip structure and hind leg in this bull is exactly what we strive for, he will stand the test of time. His dam is a tan Silver Buckle daughter that is moderate, milky, and ideal in her structure. We had a full brother to him scheduled to be one of our top end bulls three years ago and he was injured prior to the sale. If you’re looking to push down the scales in the fall and have your neighbour wondering what bull are you using, look no further.

Estrada is one of the starters for the Blue Jays, he has superior accuracy and won’t blow you away with speed on the mound. This Estrada is accurate in his structure and type. A Blackjack son that checks off so many boxes for me; strong headed, deep flanked, tight sheathed, and a toolbox to cover a big herd. He is one of the most balanced bulls in the sale. We appreciate the sheer mass of this bull and performance that he has to offer. His Navigator mother is ideal in so many ways. Not many 12 year old cows can still be that sound, square uddered, low maintenance and still drag in one impressive bull.

We tour the bull pen on a daily basis, not many days go by that you won’t try to pick this bull apart. The eye appeal of this bull is tremendous. He has a ‘notice me’ look about him. Here is a bull that has some very interesting pedigree on top and bottom. You take the herd bull look of Double Down and how he stamps his bulls with the hip structure, the strength of top, hoof structure, and the lower third that only a few bulls breed on. Now you add the Firewater x 0641 female the most dominant mating in the US. He has the thickness, tight sheath, width of pins, and razor front end to enhance so many breeding programs. This is one intriguing individual. The past few weeks I have spent wondering if we should be keeping this bull, I think he has a future in more ways than one.

Element came into the world backwards, but he got everything turned around once he hit the ground. This Blackjack son is a powerhouse. He is stout from front to back, moderate in structure, and the depth of rib is astounding. His dam always gets noticed on tours and each summer we always drool at what 730W has on the ground. She is a straight up power cow that is our widest cow from front to back, with ideal udder structure. Element will sire a calf crop that will be heavier in the fall and the easy feeding type.

We took our most ideal female we felt that would work on Downtown and flushed her. These next 5 full sibs are the result of that. If you are looking to add some extra grunt to your calf crop, Everest should be at the top of your list. This bull is soft made, deep sided, long bodied, and big time performance. If you background your calves or sell directly off the cow I think this bull fits that mold perfectly. The Downtown calves are exceptional from birth to yearling and he boasts some of the highest performance numbers in the breed. His Wynnemaker dam is no slouch either, she has averaged 13 grand on 3 heifer calves.

Terms & Conditions Terms:
The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made.
Bidding:
Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.
Disputes:
Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final.
Announcements:
Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements.
Purchaser’s Risk:
Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured.
Certificate of Registration:
Each animal will carry papers issued by the appropriate breed association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made.
Delivery:
Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk.
Breeder Guarantee:
Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after

being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.
Exception Guarantee:
In the case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price.
Accidents:
Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.
Sale Manager:
By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfilment of all guarantees and representations.
