Bull Development: The bulls have been developed on a corn silage based TMR growing ration again this year. We have been very pleased with the results of this feeding program over the last few years. We believe the bulls are developed to their genetic potential for growth, however do not lay down excess fat. We have been very satisfied with the health of the bulls on this ration and how they hold their condition throughout breeding season. These bulls are bred to perform and fed to last. Current weights and scrotal measurements will be available on the bulls on sale day.

Delivery: Bulls can be taken home immediately following the sale, or left with us free of charge until May 1, 2019 and delivered by us at shared cost. Bulls can be kept after May 1st at a cost of $100 per month at the purchasers own risk.

All bulls will be scrotal measured and semen evaluated by a licensed veterinarian prior to the sale.

Birth Weight Information Calving ease is related to the birth weight of a bull. Other factors related to the cow such as size, nutrition, gestation, and calf shape also play key roles in calving ease. The cow is involved in more than 50% of the calf. The birthweight of these bulls are a reflection of our larger size cowherd. On average our cow size will be larger, which in turn will amount to more birth weight on larger cows. Smaller cows will result in lighter birthweights.

EPD’s for birth weight accompany each lot.

Horned – Scurred – Polled…..

Horned: An animal with a horn growth affixed to the skull that has or has not been removed.

Scurred: An animal with rudimentary horn growth that will not develop into a horn. Scurs are the result of an independent gene unrelated to either the horned or polled gene.

Polled: An animal with absence of horn growth. (An animal can have scurs and still be genetically polled.)

Double Polled: An animal whose sire and dam are both genetically polled animals themselves.

Fellow Cattle Enthusiasts, The Nesbitt family takes great pride in welcoming you to Cedardale Farms on April 20th. This sale will be our 16th consecutive bull sale on the farm. We are extremely proud to be one of Ontario’s largest registered Charolais cow operations as well as one of the longest running Charolais bull sales in Ontario.

The opportunity to work closely with our commercial cow-calf customer gives us insight into the kind of cattle that are functional and profitable in the real world. Our customers’ calves continue to top feeder and finished cattle markets week in and week out. We are very proud of your hard work and dedication; congratulations!

Mother nature was relatively friendly to us in Central Ontario throughout the spring and summer of 2018, providing us with adequate moisture and heat for ideal growing conditions for our pasture, hay and grain crops as well as providing a nice opportunity to put up some fairly high quality forage crops to ensure a good winter feed supply for our cattle. We are very thankful for this.

The bulls on offer in our annual bull sale are backed by a cow herd that has been and continues to be a work in progress for over twenty years and we are very proud of it. We expect consistency and top productivity, just like our customers. Our objective is to provide superior quality Charolais bulls that will provide the genetics required for the advancement of our beef production industry.

The Charolais and Charolais cross feeder calf continues to be the most soughtafter feeder calf at the market and for a very good reason. Cattle feeders enjoy more profitability feeding Charolais calves. The reality is “identifiable” and “high quality” Charolais calves command up to and beyond $20/cwt more then other calves at the market. Ensure the Charolais bulls you select are not “just” Charolais bulls but high quality bulls from a breeding program whose goals align with your own.

We think that you will be very impressed with the quality and consistency in our bull pen this year. You will notice that there are a lot of half and threequarter brothers that exemplify the traits our customers have told us are important to the success of their cattle operations. Polled, vigorous, calving ease bulls with a lot of muscle and performance are all traits that we put considerable emphasis on. There are many bulls suitable for first calf heifers, in our opinion, as well as a very strong offering of high performance bulls that will calve easy and provide that extra pay weight at weaning.

Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque. Settlement to be made immediately after the completion of the sale, payable at par to Cedardale Farms. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. All settlements must be made before any cattle will be released.

Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder… no by-bidding will be permitted.

Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in dispute. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from who the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decisions on all disputes will be final.

Announcements: All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to such disclosures.

Breeder’s Guarantee: Should any bull fail to prove a breeder after being used on females known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller will have the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

Exception Guarantee: In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void.

Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

Health: All animals in the sale have met all necessary health requirements.

Liabilities: All persons attend the sale at their own risk and the seller and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that occur.

Mail Bids: Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone, wire or mail their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representative. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time.

Insurance: We strongly recommend that all buyers insure their purchases. Any buyers that leave their bulls at Cedardale farms for any period of time following the sale are aware that they assume all risk with their purchases.
