Uppin’ the Ante 2015

- 3 - Charolais Female Sale

Welcome On behalf of the Uppin’ the Ante group, I would like to welcome you to our 9th annual female sale. We take a lot of pride in being the longest running female sale in Ontario. The group decided this year to change the date of the sale to October 24, 2015. What has not changed is the group of great producers, offering up another great set of females for the sale. Like always, the group is offering some of the hottest and best genetics available in Canada. I don’t need to tell anyone that the beef business is as strong as or stronger than any sector of the farming world these days. It doesn’t matter whether you are selling a calf, finished steer, or a bull… they’re at an all-time high! To produce any of the above you need to start with a COW. The offering at this year’s sale is strong. There is something for everyone. We have fancy heifer calves, big powerful bred heifers and great producing young cows, polled or Full French, red or white… we have it all! Please come on Friday before the sale to view the cattle and meet the proud group of breeders who are offering you these females. As always, we would like to invite you to join us Friday night before the sale for a social evening put on by the group. As well, the cattle will be available for viewing on the Saturday morning of the sale. Please plan to come for a great lunch provided by the Uppin’ the Ante group. Remember—“Good Cattle are backed by Good People”. We look forward to visiting with everyone in Hanover on October 24th! Chester Tupling 2015 Sale Chair

Two exciting match-ups. Two high-quality Coach daughters crossed to SVY Monument, who has been doing a great job in the McTavish herd—as witnessed by the excellent selection of top-selling sons in their spring bull sale. His pedigree needs no introduction. As her name implies, Your Fave is a Cornerview favourite for a number of reasons including her style, substance and temperament. You can see the proof of what she can do with her daughter selling as Lot #23. Xtra Sweet is a cow that catches your eye every time you walk in the pasture and has proven herself as well. As an example, she produced Cornerview Xtra Zesty 23Z—high selling bred heifer in the 2013 UTA. The cross with Monument is sure to produce another topquality offspring!

Here’s a cow that shouldn’t be leaving the Medonte operation, but the sale selection committee was relentless. Medonte Starstruck 17Y is a smooth polled Freedom daughter out of the SVY Starstruck 569R cow. She has produced three heifer calves to date and all outstanding. Her 2-year-old All State daughter may be the best 2 year old we have ever raised. Her Firewater yearling daughter is just as good and is offered in the sale (another sacrifice). You be the judge if this cow is getting the job done. Her 2015 heifer calf is sired by Benelli and is being retained. The Freedom daughters are hard to acquire now and Freedom daughters of this quality are never available. Take advantage. She is donor cow quality and has her best years ahead of her! This is a beautiful young cow from a distinguished cow family at Cornerview. Her dam, Tansy 3T, is another favourite with her outstanding temperament, faultless conformation, and an impressive record—winning Champion Female at both Expo Boeuf and the Royal and going on to place 2nd at Agribition as a two year old. Tanzy 28Z is probably one of the last Coach daughters we will offer. His progeny speak for themselves in the show ring, in the bull yard and in the pasture. We’d like to keep a whole herd like this, but we’re giving someone else a chance to get in on the action! Bred on May 8 to Sparrows Barlow 254Z Consigned by Cornerview Charolais

I absolutely love this moderate frame heifer and the genetics she represents. Yourman is a large frame PLD Junction son that we used on all of our moderate frame cows with predictable results. He added some size here and her mom is sure to add milk, eye appeal and temperament. She’s been first pick of our 2014 heifer pen by most visitors. She will also have one of the first Ontario-made, limited edition CML Distinction calves on the ground next year and you’re sure to have all kinds of fun with that one. The selection team picked this heifer calf quick and no surprise—she is out of one of my top cow families. The 17U cow is a pleasure to work with and has sons working for the Freys at Fordwich and the Metcalfes at Wingham. I mentioned in another heifer’s footnotes that the Man Oh Man daughters just flat out work! Don’t let this heifer slip by, she will look great in your front pasture.
