Welcome to the first annual Stephen Charolais “Time to Muscle Up” bull sale. I am very thankful for the continuous support from my new and repeat buyers. Thanks to them I am able to finally ‘throw my hat in the ring’ and hold my first annual bull sale. A few decades back I began with an initial admiration of the Rudiger Ranch advertisement on the back of the Charolais Connection; this was my first introduction to the world of the Full French. In 2005, I ‘pulled the trigger’, bought the high seller in Olds, Alberta, and bred a group of my commercial cows to him. When spring came around and we were vaccinating before putting animals out to pasture, I found myself pushing these big calves into the chute who were out-weighing the others by 100 lb. It was a ‘no brainer’ that the Full French bulls were going to work for me!

That fall (2006), there was a Full French herd dispersal for G4 Acres out of Saskatoon, SK. My goal was to purchase a couple bred cows and hope for a couple bull calves for my commercial animals but I was so impressed with what I saw that I returned with 23 animals in total. I ended up with the higher end of the G4 Acres herd with the help of Leo Garcia. From then on, my Full French herd continued moving forward in terms of growth and quality.

On our family farm at Moosomin Lake, we also calve out 375 Simmental/Red Angus cows starting with the commercial heifers calving January 15 followed by the big herd starting February 15. During our regular breeding season we get many opportunities for trial runs in order to select the genetics that will give me the ‘biggest bang for my buck’ when we take the commercial calves to town. When new buyers ask me why I use Full French, the family farm has been a realistic and easy way to show them the resulting calves. With the straight Angus and Angus/Simm genetics, which most herds consist of these days, it seems like there are so few horns presenting anymore; it is crazy not to use Full French for the extra pounds!

I take great pride in my animals. They will be clean and tidy. I would not sell anyone an animal I would not use in my own herd.

Next year, Stephen Charolais is going to have a cut-off date for the birthdates of the bulls. For this sale, because this is new to me and I am learning, I would like to have a little wider age range of bulls for customers. I have purposefully selected two year olds and long yearlings from my personal bullpen in order to provide these opportunities.

If you purchase a bull and you are not completely satisfied, please talk to me about it so I can try to make it right! I take a lot of pride in my work; as I tell people, my last name is attached to my business and that should count for something. I look forward to meeting new customers and continuing my work with old customers.

Welcome to the Stephen Charolais and guests inaugural bull sale. This is a unique sale with a mix of Full French, French influence, Purebred, Red Factor, Polled & Horned, Two-Year Olds and Yearlings.

There really is something for everyone and high quality throughout.

Charolais, have on offer a solid set of two year old bulls that are AI sired and have the growth and soundness to go out work in the big pastures and cover a lot of cows.

Kelly Stephen has been building a solid French herd for many years and has reached the point that he wanted to have a sale as too many breeders wanted first pick of the pen. This way everyone has first pick of his bulls and there will be many first picks as the thickness and meat is impressive.

There are herd bulls for the most discriminating purebred breeders and bulls that will add meat and performance to any set of commercial calves.

Diesel is a Falcon son. I decided to pull him (plus a handful more) out of the herd pen to bring up the numbers of my two year-olds for the upcoming sale.

Diesel has always been one big dude since he hit the ground. Diesel’s dam, Rollin Acres Xenia 824U, is the first Full French bred heifer I ever bought and she is still going strong and producing calves like this!

Then Durango is backed up on his Full French dam side with a really maternal mother out of an A.I. sire, Voimo, out of France. Don’t let Durango slip away!

I bought this cowSCF YOU BETCHA 94Y(F) JR MISS INTER YOYO 313N(F) calf pair from the dispersal sale of the highly respected Patton Charolais. At the AVIGNON(F) time, I wanted these bull calves for my PCFL BELLE STAR 24W(F) own use but then decided to have a sale PCFL RIVIERA 82M(F) and wanted to jump in with both feet! I raised You Betcha as a calf and then sold half interest to Rollin’ Acres Charolais; they took him on to be the 2012 Canadian National Charolais Champ! As a calf, I knew he was special and he did well in both the show ring and as a bull that throws exceptional progeny.

Many repeat buyers are fighting for them to use on their commercial cows to get the weights to push the scale down at sale time. The final 2017 bull sale for the Pattons ended with the high selling bull, a You Betcha son, fetching $22,000. This spectacular animal was sold to a commercial buyer.

Terms & Conditions: Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made.

Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives.

Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final.

Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements.

Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured.

Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made.

Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk.

Breeder Guarantee – Bulls: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a

breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price.

Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise,in the event of accident or lossof property. By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfilment of all guarantees and representations.

Insurance: Insurance will be available sale day.

Pictures: By attending the sale you are granting permission for your picture to be used for promotional and advertising purposes relating to the sale.
