The Mountainview Bull Sale always gathers a standing room only crowd and this is for many different reasons including the multi-breed factor, a quality mailing list and proper promotion and an identity that combines the consignment sale formula with exclusivity to many bull pens. The Simmental breed was “first in” to Mountainview and has four excellent bull pens representing this section. The Anderson’s Tymarc Simmentals has really begun to develop a high-end reputation for annually bringing one of the fantastic sets of Red Simmental bulls to town each season. Their powerful herdbull battery of “Accelerator” and “Crossfire” will be well represented by their sons. The Bar CL gang from Sundre have seriously increased their offering in both quality and quantity. You may notice the effect of their good walking bulls here too as well as a nice “Twin Chief” influence on the bottom side of their pedigrees. Brad Dundas’s Outlaw Cattle Co. have topped the event in the past and have a set of bulls coming, in both Red and Black, that will be contenders to do so again! GSB Simmentals have been breeding Simmentals as long as anyone included here and have most recently been offering some of the best and most highly marketable cattle they have ever had! They also are recently offering more bulls with more quality!

The Charolais division has always been a “good draw” to the public, including Canada’s high selling Charolais bull in 2013, Gerrard Pastor at $75,000! The Foats from Cremona operate a “2 year old only” program and we can always guarantee a set of athelticly sound, rugged, true beef bulls from FVC. Joining the Charolais segment with a six-pack of high performance bulls is Legacy Charolais. This is a hard working young family who have made many positive investments in recent years to produce a quality product. Well known in Charolais circles is Kristen Edmunds, Ossim Livestock, who will be offering a good honest set of Red Factor and White Charolais. The Kendze family of Olds operate under Demarah Farms and have a group of good haired bulls that carry well known and highly proven genetics.

Poker Star is a true herd sire in the making. He is the full sib to the six Soda Pop heifers that sold at Friday Night Lights averaging $16,000 and also to BMD 51B. We paraded Poker Star this fall and he stood up at the top at each show making a lot of friends. He won the All Breeds Stars of The Future jackpot purebred champion bull calf at Olds Fall classic. 14B is very clean and long necked which flows nicely into a smooth shoulder. Welcome. I breed cattle that excel and survive in a low input environment, not cattle in an artificial environment with extra supplements, creep feed and extra management. There are plenty of high input genetics out there that only cost you money. My breeding philosophy has always centered around producing problem free females with excellent longevity that can survive and excel in a commercial cow man’s environment. I believe the best genetics are found over time through cows producing a good calf year after year through 10 plus years, and proving there is actual bred in longevity. The number one most important trait is longevity. The longer those cows stay in production the more they add to the bottom line. When you purchase high input genetics, the only way their progeny can duplicate themselves is if you also have a high input environment. This might not be as exciting as the bright lights of the show ring but it keeps me in business. My cattle are bred different. I have brought up three live bulls from the States, and are using others through AI and embryo work, that are from grass based programs down there. When crossed on these Canadian cattle it means these cattle will stay fat on a lot less feed. Outcross genetics are prominent throughout both breeds of my cattle. The Red Angus, although red carry more black genetics than red. The polled Hereford are all very carefully selected for specific breeding. These are linebred sires, resulting in increased prepotency. My polled herefords are a complete outcross to Canadian genetics. These bulls are fresh and we believe will provide a few more years service as we are using sires 10 plus years.

This is our second year participating in the Mountainvew Bull Sale, and we are pleased to be able to offer a few yearling bulls for your appraisal. For four generations, and nearly a hundred years, our family has been in the business of supplying quality Hereford breeding stock. Our philosophy is a no-nonsense approach focusing on functional and production traits. Primarily, we use our home-raised bulls, supplemented with AI from a few of the breed leaders. By using bulls off our own cows, we feel we are better able to offer a more predictable product. It also places greater selection pressure on the mothers of the bulls we offer for sale as we aim for each cow in our herd to be good enough that we would be comfortable using their sons in our own herd. The four yearlings we are offering this year have been grown using a oat and hay ration, and should work for the new owners for a long time.

Class winner at the 2014 Hardisty Hereford Field Day. His sire, CHSF 52U BRIAN 5Y, is a breed trait leader for weaning (top 1%) and yearling (top 1%), and for ribeye area (top 5%). We are calving the first daughters of 5Y this spring, including a full sister to Classic, and can’t say enough about them. In addition to their extra volume, fleshing ability and ribeye, they have the best udder and teat scores of any bull we have used. Classic’s growth EPDs rank within the top 4%, top 20% for total maternal, and his ribeye EPD in the top 12% of the breed.

TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for his purchase Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. BID - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. SALES TAXES – Applicable sales taxes will be charged on semen, embryos and trucking fees (if listed), respective to the home province of the buyer, not the seller. DISPUTES - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid.
