I still have the bill of sale for the first four purebred Charolais cows I bought in 1981. Where did those 35 years ago!? I am certainly having fun because time has flown by quickly. I started selling purebred bulls at local agriculture sales, but as the herd grew a venue to sell a larger quantity of bulls was needed. Welcome to our 18th sale in this format. We are pleased to partner with Anderson’s Four Bar X Ranch – Kevin and Becky Anderson and family. Thank you to all of our bidders and buyers over the years. We sincerely appreciate your support and look forward to hearing from you.
Martens Cattle Co. Sylvan & Karen Martens & Family PO Box 85, Glenbush, SK S0M 0Z0 Phone: 306.342.2099 Cell: 306.883.7967 sk.martens@sasktel.net
The bulls on offer this year, as in the past, are built on the best sires we could acquire either walking or through AI. One thing is clear – every program has unique requirements in order to be successful. Careful selection has been made over the past 35 years to ensure predictability in performance and calving ease. We would be happy to help you in any way we can to ensure that your purchase will contribute to reaching your program’s goals. We are currently calving the sisters and the mothers to the bulls on offer and invite you to tour the herd anytime. The cows are more than half the equation. On sale day, please come early to visit, join us for lunch and view the bulls. Sincerely, Sylvan & family
Welcome to the Four Bar X Ranch and Martens Cattle Co. Spring Bull Sale. This event represents one of the great buying opportunities for ranchers and breeders alike to select from a powerful offering of Angus and Charolais sires. As we are well aware, these two breeds complement each other and everyone knows the value of “silver” stockers. The resulting offspring of the Angus and Charolais breed have been market leaders throughout the past decade. Great Angus maternal values, coupled with ease of calving but not sacrificing performance is common place with ranchers while Charolais performance at weaning and in the feed yard is taken for granted. Sylvan and his family have been raising quality Charolais bulls for over three decades... their success is proven by the repeat customer base who have profited using Martens Cattle Co. sires. Throughout the years, we have had the privilege of marketing many Charolais, for breeders whose herd sire carries the MXS prefix. The Martens program has been developed using cowboy “basics”... longevity, fertility, disposition, ease of calving and performance. This powerful offering of Charolais bulls are designed to be suitable and add value to any type of program, whether you are a cow/calf producer or a purebred breeder! Kevin and his family have a great group of Black Angus bulls... to truly appreciate their genetic power, you must see the cow herd... cows with powerful body depth, deep barreled, with awesome udders and milk flow but most importantly, very sound footed. The Four Bar X Ranch program is based on the selection of herd sires that are high performance power bulls yet offer ease of calving. As we restock North America with females, Angus influenced mothers will have added value and demand. The Anderson bulls are rugged, uniform and most importantly....highly maternal! Plan to be with us on April 4th in Spiritwood and select your next sire(s).... you owe it to yourself and your cows. If we, at T bar C may be of any assistance prior to or sale day, feel free to give Shane, Ted or myself a call and we will be pleased to assist you with any information or with your selections. Sparrow’s Landmark calves are outstanding. Soft, mellow cattle with tremendous hair and a disposition as good as any bull we have ever used, the performance on these cattle puts them at the top of the breed. They are born easily and are very active at birth. His daughters are becoming some of our best cows. Look for his sons in our sale as well as the sons of his daughters when you are choosing your herd bull.

We purchased Spitfire in the spring of 2008. He has turned into a cornerstone of our program. His sons possess exceptional performance, fertility and soundness. He is probably one of the best footed bulls you will ever find. His daughters are becoming a mainstay here. They have beautiful udders, are highly fertile and are easy fleshing. At nine years of age we will be turning him out again with a select group of females.

Welcome to our annual bull sale. We are very excited with this year’s sale offering with a strong group of bulls that we feel should work well in the industry today. Our emphasis is on profit driven traits-fertility, fleshing ability, maternal ability and the ability to raise heavy calves that will top markets. We would like to thank all our past and future customers for their interest and confidence in our program. If we can be of assistance in any way give us a call. We look forward to seeing you on April 4.

Chris Poley

Five year old 15.1 hh has been used in community pasture for the last two years. This gelding is a nice ranch horse that really tracks cattle, has been through bush, mud, creeks, moving cattle, and docturing cattle. Have ran a few steers team roping on the heel side, moves to cattle nice. Should be a horse that could work for a lot of people. His full brother is a top end rope horse in southern Alberta.
