For the second year now, we are uniting our efforts with Ross Lake Charolais to deliver an outstanding group of bulls. Over the past couple of years, we have substantially reduced our cattle numbers, but our mission to provide our buyers with long lasting, low maintenance and high yielding animals remains strong. The list of traits we strive to produce with every calf crop is lengthy – and each animal must convey a quiet disposition, and well-mannered character to even be afforded the opportunity to prove itself beyond that. These bulls have much to offer as valuable additions to both Purebred and Commercial herds; with natural gains of muscling, and healthy, sound development that will greatly support an increase in your carcass values. 14 years is a long time to have an annual bull sale, but it tells the story that the cattle must be working. Tom and Carey Stewart, of Maple Leaf Charolais, added Byron and Linda Wilkie and family, of Ross Lake Charolais, into the sale last year and this year added Ken Rose and family, of Southside Charolais, to the sale. Both the guest consignor families have been French breeders for many years. Once again this year, it is the largest offering of Full French and French influence genetics you will find in Canada. The quality is deep with a good selection of those hard to find two-year-old bulls, along with some bulls down to yearlings that will get out and get the job done. There are also a number of polled bulls on offer this year with some being full French. This is a hard commodity to find. The French influence has always been known to add that extra thickness and hair, producing the calves that consistently top the feeder markets. This past fall the premium paid for the Charcross calves was as high as it has ever been. If you aren’t using a Charolais bull you are giving up a lot of dollars when you sell your calves. These operations have also made calving ease and docility a priority in their programs. This is a solid offering with bulls to suit any operation. Charity Heifer We are proud supporters of The Stollery Children’s Hospital. This year Maple Leaf Charolais is donating a heifer to be sold through the Bull Sale ring, with the proceeds going to this extraordinary organization. A dear friend of ours lost a son in 2014. Adam Donald Zimmerman was only 20 years old when he lost his battle with a cancerous brain tumor. The Stollery was a major part of Adam’s life; and his Dad, Gerald Zimmerman, has dedicated a great deal of himself to thanking this foundation for the role it played in helping Adam live life to the fullest.

A big welcome to everybody to the 2018 edition of the Maple Leaf Bull Sale. Thanks again to Tom and Carey for having us as a guest consignor in there 14th annual sale. 2017 was definitely an up and down year in most aspects, and here's to hoping 2018 is considerably more stable, in both the weather and the cattle markets. The last couple of months of 2017 brought stronger calf prices, and most producers would have capitalized with there Charcross calves. We believe we have a very nice offering of sale bulls this year. We have a few coming two year olds, and a very solid group of yearlings. The majority of the bulls are Full French, with a few outcross calves from purebred cows and French Bulls. The bulls are all well haired, easy fleshing and good tempered. Their mama cows are run alongside our commercial cows and graze standing corn until they are close to calving. They are then brought up near the yard to calve, and winter on a tame haygreenfeed ration with free choice minerals, and salt. The pairs are turned out on pasture in May and the calves are weaned late September when the bull calves are placed on a grass hay, and soy based pellet ration from Coop Feeds. The calves are not pushed hard, but are grown out to provide a bull that is big enough to breed this spring, but last for several additional breeding seasons.
We have a few January and February calves in the offering, and several March babies. These March boys will only be 11 months at sale day, but remember the sale is in February, most producers will not be turning bulls out for another 3-5 months. These calves will be of ample size for covering cows then. Of course we will guarantee the bulls and want you completely satisfied with your purchases. Your livelihoods depend on selling calves, and we understand that. This year’s bulls are a very uniform group that will throw you a consistent set of calves. There are several half brothers, from consistent cow families. The bulls are from 4 main herd sires. Our main herd sire 3190A, a Sisteron son, has turned out awesome. He has the disposition, to go along with a great conformation. His calves come out easy, and start putting on flesh and hair. We will be calving his first group of heifer calves this spring and are really excited to watch them perform. The next group is from the 237Z bull. We've used him for several years and he again is consistent with easy calving, good natured, good haired, easy fleshing calves. We have several of his daughters retained in our cowherd. Third sire is the CWW209 B bull. This is a Cabotin bred bull that's first calf crop turned out really well. His sons are very similar to him in that they are sound legged, thick, and have lots of middle. They will add pounds to your calves. The fourth set of calves is from the PCFL General Lee bull. This is an Éclair son that was owned by Patton Charolais in Ontario. We purchased several cows at the Patton Dispersal that were bred to this fellow. The cows have turned out great, and General Lee has left an impressive set of calves from them. I sound like a broken record, but again these calves are sporting good temperaments, great hair, and are easy fleshing. TERMS & CONDITIONS Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made. Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final. Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured. Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made. Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk. Breeder Guarantee – Bulls: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property. By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfilment of all guarantees and representations. Insurance: Insurance will be available sale day. Pictures: By attending the sale you are granting permission for your picture to be used for promotional and advertising purposes relating to the sale.

Southside Charolais We are honoured to be a part of the 2018 Maple leaf Charolais Bull Sale. A big “thank-you” to the Stewarts for inviting us! We have been in the cattle business for many years with a commercial herd and some registered Herefords. We began breeding Full French Polled Charolais 10 years ago with some heifers we purchased from Maple Leaf, Valanjou and Rudiger Ranch. We continue to expand and improve our herd through our AI program, importing semen from France. We strive for easy calving bulls that produce growthy, meaty calves. Most of our animals are polled and we are proud to have produced some animals that have tested homozygous polled. At this sale we are offering 5 Full French polled bulls that we think would benefit any commercial or purebred breeder. We purchased 3190A from this sale in 2015. He's been doing a great job for us, and is a pleasure to work with. He's full of meat, on a solid set of feet and legs. His mother is a beautifully uddered, deep bodied, broody cow. His calves are born easy with lots of vigor. We've calved a couple of heifers from him with no issues, and the cows calve unassisted. His sons will sire those easy feeding calves that the feedlots are looking for.
