Charolais Breeders Bull Sale

Saturday, March 31, 2018, 6 p.m. Sunrise Charolais, 1287 Conc 6 S, RR#4, Stayner, ON

Featuring:

31 yearling bulls & 8 purebred open yearling heifers

Welcome Welcome to the 7th annual High Point Charolais Breeders Bull Sale. Sometimes in life, 7 days seems like an eternity and other times, 7 years has passed and it seems like only yesterday; that’s kind of how I’m feeling as I pen this welcome letter once again. Seven years, that will be 210 bulls that have been sold and gone on to work in cow herds across Canada and it was only yesterday we were preparing the very first sale. I was reminded a while back that annual events in our lives are truly limited opportunities and while there are definitely things in life so much more important than choosing bulls, still the reality remains, we only have so many chances to get it right. That’s one of the reasons I so appreciate the other breeders who join me in putting this sale offering together—all of us bring something a little different to the table which I believe greatly increases your odds of actually getting your bull purchase “right.” I can confidently say that there is a bull or two here that will be the “right fit” for your operation.

They have been fed a balanced, limited grain, free choice hay ration and come from fully Doug, Earl, Ryan, Cory & Stephanie, Erin Briggs vaccinated cow herds, so you can buy a Echo Springs Charolais bull from this sale and take him home with EMB Charolais confidence knowing that he’s not going to 705-487-5840; briggserin@hotmail.com fall to pieces when he enters the real world. You can also choose to leave your bull with us until May 1 free of charge and if you require further boarding, we are happy to work with you, but please speak to the breeders before hand to make suitable arrangements. Also, please feel free to call with any questions or to view the bulls prior to the sale. We would be happy to help you select a bull or two that is right for your operation. New this year, we are also offering a few purebred open yearling heifers. These females will all be halter broke and ready to breed. That way you can take them home and fit them right in to your breeding program. This is a perfect opportunity for someone wanting to enter the purebred Charolais business or simply add a really good one to an existing herd. Please come early to view the heifers as they will NOT be entering the sale ring due to logistics and will sell by lot number only. Thanks again to all of our many repeat buyers and we look forward to reconnecting with you along with welcoming many new customers on sale day.

Insurance:

Bulls become the buyer’s risk and responsibility at time of sale. If the bull is returning back to the breeder he must be fully insured by the purchaser. We will care for your bulls as our own but accidents can happen.

Absentee bids:

If you cannot attend the sale, please contact any of the breeders or sale staff and they will handle your bids in a professional manner.

Spring 2018 Breed EPD averages:

CE BW WW YW M TM 4.0 1.2 43.6 83.7 21.7 43.5

Note: EPDs are not perfect or foolproof, but they do offer valuable information. Above are the Charolais breed averages. For example: If a bull’s BW EPD is less than 1.2 it is an indicator that his offspring birthweight should be below the breed average. Again, if a bull’s YW EPD is 85.7 for example, it’s an indicator that his calves’ yearling weight should potentially be 2 lbs heavier than the breed average. Likewise, if a bulls EPDs for Milk or MTL (total maternal) are above the breed average, then his offspring have the potential to make “better than breed average” mothers.

It took a lot of sleepless nights and discussions deciding whether or not to put this guy in the sale or keep him for ourselves. Well, here he is! What we feel is one of the strongest full French bulls we have ever raised, 63E continues to impress us with age. From a few weeks old we knew he was going to be something special and he did not disappoint. He’s deep sided, wide topped, with an explosive hip and great eye appeal. The fact that he is out of a proven low birthweight cow family is just a cherry on top. He is everything we are looking for in a herdsire. Built with tremendous thickness and muscle, the power and performance of this bull is truly outstanding. With a walk so smooth he prowls, we are confident that this bull will add the extra pounds and performance needed in your cow herd. Retaining the rights to draw semen for in-herd use only at buyer’s convenience and our expense.

Ezra is one more Distinction son that’s packed full of performance. His mom goes back to Whistler, a bull we walked here a number of years ago that left us some really good females. But even more than that, she goes back to 2P, a matriarch here; an incredibly heavy milking female that at 15 years of age is still going strong. Longevity is definitely in the genes here and another good one if you’re thinking of replacement females down the road. Ezra is sure to leave you some really good ones.

Sunrise Earl combines easy calving and performance in one very attractive package. Sired by Sunrise Sunburst, you can be assured of calving ease and even though this guy pushes the upper limit on Sunburst birth weights, he has that nice small head and smooth shoulder that your heifers will appreciate. He gets his size and performance from his Dateline mom, a big boned, big framed, strong, heavy milking cow. Take a second look at this boy come sale day; I have and I really like him.

Sunrise Entertainer is slightly younger than some of our other bulls in the sale but he’s certainly holding his own in the bull yard. And he’s one that should work very well on heifers too. Casanova was a bull I first saw at Agribition a couple of years ago that was admired by many for his depth of quarter. I was able to acquire the Ontario semen rights on him and this bull will be our first offering. Making him even better, he’s out of a Kaboom daughter that I absolutely love for her style, size, milking ability and temperament. If you’re looking for calving ease along with some added quarter, 44E is the one.

The Distinction daughters who are now producing for me have all made really good cows. They have some size which gives them calving ability and they have loads of milk. This particular heifer is out of an Algonquan cow, a U model that has produced consistently for many years. A heifer that is sure to make a great brood cow for years to come.

Eclipse is a full sister to one of the yearlings I sold at the Uppin the Ante sale last fall. I talked with the buyer of that one in January and she had set down a picture-perfect udder, laid down and unassisted, gave birth to a sharp bull calf. 26E is made the same way and should have a great future ahead of her.
