Welcome to our 2nd Annual Charolais Bull Sale nother year has slipped by, as difficult as it is to believe, it’s time for the bulls to go to town. The Charolais stock have had another excellent sale season, holding their place at the top of the market across the country. There is money to be made on the heavy Charcross calves, If you have been considering a Charolais bull NOW is the TIME! There have been a few changes at the ranch, the biggest was the feed program.

We replaced the screening pellets with a balanced silage based ration designed for Charolais bulls and targeting 3.5 lb. per day gain. The pen averaged 4.3 lb. in January, they are more muscular and athletic and ready to go to work. None of the bulls were creep fed this year. Kevin Wadham has been great to work with and feel free to contact him about our feeding.

It has been a pleasure to work with the Gilliland Bros. this year. They wanted to step into a new feeding direction this year by switching to a TMR (total mixed ration) program. There are many advantages to doing this but in my opinion, the most important reason is it gives them absolute control over what their bulls eat. It allows us to build guts, capacity, hair and this powerful set of young herdsires have plenty of them all. They are fed a daily ration of silage, grain and a customized supplement that is balanced to their specific feedstuffs. I always plan to develop strong muscular bulls that walk on a great set of feet and legs. These big boys need to be able to get out and cover the ground that you their customers demand and that they will be able to do with flying colours.

Also we pay great detail to the trace mineral and vitamin levels so that we can have great testicular development and early sexual maturation. It is critical that these young herdsires are developed on that high roughage type diet so they can perform for you year after year. I am extremely impressed with this pen of bulls they are absolute powerful meat machines with something for every customer and your needs. It has been a promising year in the beef industry as producers are finally starting to get paid for their product.

We as ranchers also need to take pride in the fact that we are producing a quality product that continues to feed the nation. The first step in this process is to use a quality bull that will produce optimal results in his calf crop.

Our bulls are grown out realistically with no pampering. If you’re looking for a bull that has been creep-fed since his first peek of sunlight, then you’re at the wrong sale. Our calves are creep-fed two weeks before weaning, and then slowly grained to assure the buyer the bull isn’t burned out.

We feel very fortunate to be a part of the cattle industry and all the wonderful, hard-working people we have met. We would love to have you stop in for a visit and have a peek at the bulls. We would like to welcome you to the 2nd Annual Gilliland Bros. Bull Sale. Their pen of bulls are very impressive this year and have that fresh, athletic look to them.

They changed their feeding ration this year with very favourable results. The bulls aren’t carrying the condition or weight they have in the past but the genetics and longevity are there.

There is a nice mix of whites and tans with varying performance and frame size to fit any program and any type of cow.

The calving ease and birth weights on these bulls is very good. The herd bulls they have been using have been selected for calving ease, structural soundness and performance thus providing you the customer with a bull that should not give you any problems but still maximum returns.

The Charcross calf has always been a market topper and in the future this will continue. Feed efficiency and performance go hand in hand and with higher feed prices it becomes a necessity. Crossbreeding is also an essential part of productivity and heterosis is the only thing in the cattle industry that is free.

Again this year Anna and Greg Perrot, Freitag-Perrot Cattle Co. are consigning a good set of Angus bulls. The Freitag family has been associated with quality Angus cattle for half a century and the local bull buyers have always supported the program because the bulls work and the people are good. Bonafied is one of the fanciest and most complete bulls in the pen. Our senior heifer bull on top and a sweet redzone dam on the bottom side. Here is one of the top heifer bulls you will find! Plus – he is a performer, gaining 4. 3 lb. a day in January.

This bull has been our main heifer bull since purchasing him in 2010. Both his dam and his sire have produced very successful progeny. Strong polled genetics here and his calving has been trouble free. Legend is a breeding machine and rarely misses a female. His first daughters are now milking and doing a great job on their calves. His sons were very well accepted at last year’s sale, and this year’s sons look great with a couple of them right at the top of the pen again.

This bull had an actual yearling weight of 1600 pounds, he is very muscular with a long spine and a big foot. We really liked his dam and his full sister when we went to look at him, and his daughters look good and are fitting right into our program. His sons have performed exceptionally well in the bull pen, and gone on to work well for many customers.

White magic had the highest ADG in January gaining 5.2 lb. per day on a ration designed for 3-3.5 lb. for Charolais bulls. No tricks here, he is the real deal, unbelievable for a twin.

Superstar is the progeny of an awesome combination. His sire is Ultimate 918X, our high seller from 2010 and 30N, which became a Gold Star Dam of Distinction in 2012. Probably one of the most correct bulls we have raised, he really looks good. He has really balanced numbers, and an ADG of 3.9 lb. in January. Just imagine the potential here.

Our high selling bull from two years back, purchased by Cedarlea Farms, Horseshoe E Charolais, and Charla Moore Charolais. He is so complete, smooth and fancy with a great coat of hair, and we see him passing this onto his sons. The sire of our purebred bull pen, Wiwi Creek Escalade was purchased from a highly respected herd and my good friend Jonathan Thomason of Wiwa Creek Farm. Escalade is a direct son of the high-selling Studmuffin bull Jonathan purchased in a previous bull sale. After seeing the success Wiwa Creek had with Escalade, Jonathan gave us the opportunity to purchase him. While Jonathan owned him, he sired the 2010 Junior Bull Calf Champion at Agribition, the 2011 Junior Heifer Calf at Agribition and an Escalade daughter raised the $23,000 Heifer Calf at the 2012 Power and Perfection Sale. This bull in not a ‘one hit wonder’. It can be hard to find a bull that can produce quality bulls and females, but we found Escalade can produce hairy, correct, powerful bulls with muscle throughout, and his daughters are deep-sided, beautifully uddered cows. We are very proud to be offering sons off him in our sale.

TERMS & CONDITIONS Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made.

Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final.

Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements.

Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured.

Certificate of Registration: Each registered animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association or Canadian Angus Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made.

Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk.

Breeder Guarantee - Bulls: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price.

Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of

accident or loss of property. By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and the seller.

The buyer must look to the seller for fulfilment of all guarantees and representations.

Insurance: Insurance will be available sale day.

Pictures: By attending the sale you are granting permission for your picture to be used for promotional and advertising purposes relating to the sale.
