Welcome to our 5th Annual Charolais Bull Sale Well first off, thanks for opening the cover of our catalogue and taking a few minutes to read our thoughts this spring. We have just about been through the alphabet since purchasing our first few purebred females. We have made our fair share of mistakes over the years, but we learned from them and it has brought us to where we are today and for that we are truly thankful. If you have been to our sale in the past we sure hope to see you again, and if you have not been to our yard we would sure appreciate a chance to feed you lunch and possibly put a bull to work for you. For those not familiar with our yard and ranch, we don’t have many trees for shelter, and our pastures have none. Our cattle have to be able to withstand the elements and for that we breed for hair. We do not feed grain to the cows, with the occasional exception of cereal silage, so our cattle have to be the easy doing type that don’t require any special attention. For this reason we have been feeding a TMR ration with the mix wagon to the bulls, as this is how feedlots operate in order to be profitable. Dave Moffatt, of 3M Beef, does our feed testing and balances the ration for us. Our bulls are not fat, they are muscular athletes ready to go to work for you. Our livelihood is almost entirely our cattle so they have to be profitable, therefore we require longevity. They have to be correct, and made right from the ground up if they are going to last for many years. We now have 7 children in this yard so temperament is a must as the older ones are quite often out helping! We incorporated a new slogan at weaning time last fall, “NO Second Chances”, any animal that acts up gets loaded on the pot and sent with the commercial steers in the fall. Its hard shipping a good looking bull calf, but the harder you cull the stronger the pen of bulls is! We have always bred for calving ease, and the last few years we have been focusing on birth weight as well. We know even our heavier birth weight bulls will calve with ease because they are made right, but if you are looking for a small birth weight with lots of grow, we have lots. We added the Tandem bull to our breeding program in 2014 because of his muscle, hair, and birth weight, and from his first bunch of sons it looks like he is working very well for us. As you can see from our catalogue we offer a good volume discount, and if you are out of province we are committed to getting your bull to you. We decided to include a few testimonials this year from cattlemen that have been with us for many years, some with quite a few G.Bros bulls in their battery, and we thank them for their comments. Welcome to the Gilliland Bros. 5th Annual Sale which will be a video sale and broadcast on the internet on DLMS if you cannot make it to the sale. The quality is very strong this year and there are some definite herd sire prospects for the most discriminating breeder with some great outcross genetics. The bulls have been selected for calving ease, but still have performance, meat and hair. There are many ½ brothers if you are looking for multiple bulls to put some consistency in a calf crop. Bottom line is these are top quality genetics with bulls that will fit your budget. Most of the bulls are polled and there are some red factor ones if that is what you are looking for. Take advantage of the top market to replace the old bull and get the Charolais premium that you will receive using these bulls. TERMS & CONDITIONS Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made. Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final. Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured. Certificate of Registration: Each registered animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association or Canadian Angus Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made. Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk. Breeder Guarantee - Bulls: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property. By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer.
