elcome fellow cattle breeders, friends and family to the Elder Charolais 11th Annual Bull Sale. It is our hope that you have all stayed well during this past year. Life has certainly provided some interesting challenges through Covid-19, 2020, from the bull sales last spring, to the female sales this fall, and everything in-between. The agricultural world was a great place to be to keep your mind and body busy and at home through all this. We are ever so grateful to all those that took the time to support our 10th Anniversary Sale, either through their presence here that day, or on the internet. We truly appreciate your support and thank you once again for partaking in the sale. We also want to thank our sponsors. We need their businesses to do business, so agriculture stays strong and supports its own. As we write these notes today and turn into February, it is +7 degrees here and we have experienced a January with unbelievably mild winter weather. Outside of the destructive winds that have raised havoc in our province, we are happy to have the weather shorten the winter. We are once again pleased to be able to provide a broad selection of genetics in our bull pen this year. We have our herd sires of Blackjack and Commissioner, that have been working well in our program and providing the type of bulls the Commercial and Purebred breeders desire to have in their pastures, turning a profit for them when they sell their calves. We have a handful of Baron bulls with some performance, and a small selection of Honcho calves and Slugger (our red factor bull). We have a large selection of new genetics with HVA Falcon 250F, TR CAG Carbon Copy 7630E, KLR Vexour 8042F, one KLR Amigo 98E son, and one SKW Expedition 89C son. We believe there is something here that will meet the needs of our buyers and invite you to stop in to go through the bull pen at your convenience. Our goal is to ensure we provide top quality bulls, with calving ease, performance, and lots of muscle, good bone, strong testicle development, lots of hair, and most importantly, really good dispositions. Bulls that will go out and get the job done for you and provide return on your investment. The 2020 bull calf crop is a thick, beefy, and a deep bodied bunch of bulls, that we believe have all that. The fall calf prices held their own as the feed grain prices, namely corn and barley had continued to rise. The payoff on your calf crop is the weigh-in on the Charcross calves. Now is the time to get on board and add a Charolais bull to your program and take
advantage of the hybrid vigour offered by this great breed. If you are unfamiliar with our program, our bulls are on a TMR ration consisting of barley silage, hay, and 14% pellets with a chelated mineral package. Our bulls are not pushed, and on average gain 3.6 lb per day to enhance longevity. Our bull guarantee is real simple! If something ever happens (which unfortunately things do happen out in the pasture), give us a phone call and we will do our very best to get those cows bred for you! We once again have video footage on the bulls to provide an opportunity for you to view our bull pen online prior to the sale. The bulls will be sold on sale day by video. You are welcome to stop by anytime in advance of the sale, or arrive early sale day and we will be more than happy to go through the bull pens with you and answer any questions you may have. 2020 Highlight
E
leven years ago, Elders had their first bull sale, and it has continued to grow in consistent quality ever since. This year, as you go through the catalogue and watch the videos, you will see the trip to Coronach to see the bulls in person is worth the drive. The sire groups represented are time proven, but also excitingly new, including sons from some of their high sellers from past sales, where they kept semen to use in their own program. The top and meat in the bull pen, combined with the performance and hair, will give you those top sort calves in any market across the country, and put more dollars in your pocket. There are some herdsire prospects that should go into breeder herds, as they will give you the soundness and eye appeal to improve the quality of genetics in your cowherd and what you market for years to come. This is a video sale at the Elder Charolais Farm with the atmosphere calm and hassle free. You can also view the sale and bid at By Livestock Online, but if at all possible, try to come to see the operation and the bulls either before the sale or on sale day. If you haven’t used a Charolais bull before, you need to give it a try to see the advantages crossbreeding will give you. Hawk is out of the Falcon bull we purchased from Palmer Charolais. He provides performance to his progeny. Hawk has a great profile with length of body, as well as spring of rib, good legs, and good bone. His mama is a Blackjack daughter and we are very impressed with what the BlackJack dams are doing with their offspring.
Reference Sire WCR COMMISSIONER 593P We acquired Commissioner from Wienk Charolais, of Lake Preston, South Dakota. His calves are all long in the spine, have a solid square hip, nice head, lots of hair and a good temperament. Commissioner is one of the easiest calving bulls to date that we have had in our bull pen. He follows it up with performance. We have 6 Commissioner sons in our offering in this bull sale. Commissioner has become one of the most talked about Charolais bulls in Canada and the US and for good reason – as he is a true curve bender! Heifer Bull Alert! Hank leads off the Commissioner sons this year. Phenotypically awesome. Hank has the look to become a great herdsire. He is complete from front to back. He is a low birthweight bull with lots of hair, lots of beef, wide across the top, with a thick hind quarter. He really hits his tracks when he gets out on the move. TERMS & CONDITIONS Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made. Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final. Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured. Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made. Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk. Breeder Guarantee - Bulls: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be

breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.
