Welcome to our 6th Annual Bull Sale
W
elcome to another Elder Charolais Farms Annual Bull Sale. We are excited to be celebrating 25 years in the purebred business extending 4 generations. We are proud of Cassidi, Keanan and Klay’s involvement with cattle through 4H and the CCYA. We have truly enjoyed the benefits of this business from the many, many good friends we have acquired, through to the business of building our herd and now hosting our 6th annual bull sale. It is the time of year when the mail boxes fill with bull sale catalogues. Where the days can be long and the nights short, as we watch over this year’s calf crop. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for being a part of our 25 years and to extend our sincere gratitude to all our previous buyers and bidders. We do hope our program has provided you in the past and will provide you in the future, with a product that meets and surpasses your needs. Once again, we have video footage on the bulls to provide an opportunity for you to view our bull pen on-line prior to the sale. We hope this opportunity will assist you in decision making associated to your own bull battery for the upcoming breeding season. Join us as we host an open house (come and go) to visit the bull pen ahead of sale day. It will be held on March 6th from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. We hope those of you who may not be available to attend sale day, but are interested in our program, will join us to view the bull pen and talk to us about what your needs are and how our bulls may benefit your
T
Charolais/Charcross calf crop, as well as socialize and enjoy a bite to eat. Seeking out the best genetics in herdsires and females is the very fibre of building our cattle herd. We combine these genetics with a balanced nutritional ration, with special attention to character traits, and listening to the needs of our customers, to produce the set of bulls that you will see in this year’s catalogue. We take pride in our work and efforts to present you with a solid selection of yearling bulls that will go out and work to meet your requirements. We expect these bulls will offer a variety of the traits you may be looking for in your next calf crop. We have utilized numerous herdsires to provide easy calving bulls, with performance return to breed your heifers to; some performance bulls for your mature cows; and of course a split of white, red, and tan, with lots of hair and good testicle development to meet your calf market requirements. Confirmation remains a priority to us and we choose our genetics to provide strong top lines, thick butts, deep bodies with lots of muscle through the hind quarter and good dispositions. As commercial cattle breeders, we see the benefits of the Charcross calves in the auction barns ourselves. Aside from the Open House and bull sale day, you are invited to come to the yard at any time prior to the sale to go through the bull pen at your convenience. Coffee is always on and visitors are always welcome. At Elder Charolais Farms, we back our bulls. Our ultimate goal is to provide you, as producers, return on your investment.
he Elder family have another great bull pen for you to evaluate. The top of this pen has some exciting genetics for the purebred producers looking for the next great one and solid sire groups that will compliment any commercial operation. The Elders have spared no expense, since they started in the business a quarter century ago, to buy the best bulls and females they can to improve the quality of the their cowherd and bulls they sell. This is a video sale at the Elder Charolais Farm with the atmosphere calm and hassle free. The hospitality is always excellent and if you have never been to Coronach, you will be glad you made the drive. If you haven’t used a Charolais bull before, you need to give it a try and see the advantages that crossbreeding will give you. Once again, the Charcross calves were setting the standard for the feeder sales last fall and with the number of producers putting Charolais bulls on their black cows. We are going to see the silver revolution put money in your pocket. Quality and performance will always top the market and starting with the best bull battery you can, will pay you dividends for many years. If Candace or I can be of any assistance before the sale or on sale day, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We would be happy to help you find a bull that is right for your program. Reference Sire Sparrows Nixon 111Y Nixon is sired by the Winn Mans Lanza bull. He has added performance to the calf crop without sacrificing calving ease. He has good feet with lots of hair which we have seen him transfer to his calf crop. He is structurally sound with a strong quarter and has added depth to the middle. As an added bonus, Nixon’s first daughters have dropped beautiful udders with small teats and great udder attachment. We are absolutely thrilled with the job he is doing here.

Cypress is an impressive Encore embryo calf out of our donor dam JXCR 70x, who is making quite an impact in our herd. This dam is a long bodied, exceptionally uddered, sound footed female that we just can’t say enough good things about. She has produced Elder’s Zeus 22Z, the pick of the heifer calves at Agribition 2013 – KLR 184A and Banadero 321B from last year’s sale. Cypress’s sire, CML Encore 4Y needs little introduction as he was named the 2013 Canadian National Champion Bull; 2013 Reserve U.S. Reserve National Champion Bull; 2013 Agribition Grand Champion Bull and the 2013 Denver National Western Reserve Champion Bull. Cypress is a moderate framed meat machine. His has a big hip, great hair coat and is a free moving, sound individual.
