Welcome to our First Annual Bull Sale!

For years, we have been contemplating whether or not to have a bull sale.

Finally, in 2016, we have decided to take the plunge. 2015 was a very exciting year for us. We celebrated our 25th anniversary raising Charolais cattle, hired Jon Wright to be our herdsman (although he prefers cow boss :), we expanded our Charolais herd and hit the show road.

We are proud to have been able to add Dale Jorgensen’s herd and some select cows from the P&H herd to our program. We feel these cows have allowed us to expand with cows from respected programs that will complement and enhance our own breeding program. With our numbers increasing to 225 cows, we decided it was time to host a sale. We would like to thank all of our past customers who purchased bulls directly out of the yard and we look forward to meeting many new ones. We feel we have an outstanding group of bulls for you to choose from. Whether you are looking for a yearling or a two year old bull, we have them.

We have a unique situation in that we have a January-February calving group and an April-May calving group. This results in yearlings from the winter calving group that are mature enough to go out there and get the job done and a dedicated two year old program that has not been picked over. Over the past 15 years we have developed our “Win-Win” program… Every bull we sell comes with a bid on your calves in the fall. In our feedlot we know that nothing feeds better than a Charcross calf. We strongly believe in our bulls and we prove it by buying their offspring to feed out. At Coyote Flats we don’t just want to sell you a bull, we want to be your partners in the cattle business. Welcome to the Coyote Flats Inaugural Bull Sale lunch and check out the bulls as they won’t be running through the sale ring.

As we have said in the advertising, “Building for the future with 25 years experience.” This is so true as the Lohues have been in the purebred Charolais business for 25 years and in the cattle industry a lot longer. Last year they wanted to expand their purebred herd and went out and purchased the Dale Jorgensen herd, which has been developing in southern Alberta for 40 years. This is a quality set of females and Dale has been adding some of the best bulls he could find to continue to improve them. With this addition and some from the good P & H herd, their numbers are up to where they can supply a solid number of both two year old and yearling bulls that will go out and work in any operation.

If you haven’t used a Charolais bull before, you need to give it a try and see the advantages that crossbreeding will give you. Once again, the Charcross calves were setting the standard for the feeder sales last fall and with the number of producers putting Charolais bulls on their black cows, we are going to see the silver revolution put money in your pocket. Quality and performance will always top the market, and starting with the best bull battery you can will pay you dividends for many years.

• All bulls will be ultrasound measured and Leptin tested • Coyote Flats reserves the right to draw semen, for in-herd use, on the bulls in the sale, at their expense and the buyer’s convenience.

Deduct $100 from the purchase price of each bull you take home sale day. Otherwise, there is free delivery within 300 km.

“Every bull sold comes with a bid on your calves in the fall” This program was developed so that we could become your partner in the cattle business. A successful partnership must benefit both parties.

• Excellent sale price: We pay top dollar for the calves that enter our feedlot.

We can also offer to contract your calves during the summer months.

• Less stress: On the day you wean your calves you already know your price and don’t have to worry about what price you are going to get or what the weather is going to do. No worries about calves getting cut out because of a minor problem or off color. We are also flexible on delivery times and dates.

• Less shrink: We have a government inspected scale. The calves are weighed on the truck and the shrink is determined on a sliding scale based on distance from our feedlot.

• No sales commission: All that you pay for is the brand inspection and the trucking to get your calves to our feedlot.

• Pride: You can come back at anytime to the feedlot and have a look at how your calves are doing.

• Healthier calves: Calves are less stressed, therefore, they stay healthier.

• Performance: We get large groups of calves that the packers are looking for and we know they will perform and yield among the best in the industry.

FIRST ANNUAL BULL SALE

Nutrition Service Associates Although genetics is a huge component of a bulls breeding potential, proper nutrition plays a large roll on the ability of a bull to perform in the pasture, and the longevity with which he will stay in the herd. Meeting a bulls’ nutritional requirements involve optimizing the levels of minerals, vitamins, protein, & energy in a diet which enables a bull to grow frame & muscle, develop strong hooves, and mature sexually without putting on too much body condition.

Coyote Flats bulls have been developed on precisely balanced rations that contain enhanced levels of protein & chelated trace minerals in addition to an optimal level of energy. These rations are formulated to contain high amounts of roughage in combination with a blend of energy sources including oats, barley and distiller’s grains in order to keep starch levels low.

This in turn allows the bulls to express their genetic potential for growth while not “burning them out”. We have the utmost confidence that these bulls will be in excellent breeding condition at sale time so that they can step right into their roles of adding pounds and profitability to your program.

January 19, 2016 To whom it may concern, On behalf of the veterinarians at the Coaldale Veterinary Clinic, I am very pleased to provide some insight into the health practices of Coyote Flats Charolais. I have had a close working relationship with them for over 20 years and in all my dealings with Coyote Flats Charolais I have found them to act with a great deal of integrity and good faith towards their customers and towards the beef industry in general. I have found Mark to be very conscientious with respect to the health of the cattle that are on the farm, and those that are to be sold.

Vaccinations are carried out in a timely manner to help prevent disease in the individual animals as well as in the calves that are raised. All cows receive a 5-way (IBR, PI3, BRSV, BVD Type I & II) modified live virus vaccine pre-breeding to protect the fetus from infection with IBR or BVD. This program is started while the cows are still calves, so all mature cows have received at least 2 doses of the 5-way viral before first conception and then annually pre-breeding after that.

When the calves are born they are initially given an intranasal IBR, PI3, BRSV and an intranasal Mannheimia hemolytica and Pasteurella multocida for protection against respiratory illness. At branding time the calves are given a modified live 5-way viral to continue this protection, as well as an 8-way Clostridial vaccine that also contains Histophilus somni. The 5-way viral and the 8-way Clostridial vaccines are boosted at weaning time and then the heifers are given the 5-way viral pre-breeding. This program provides maximum protection for the calves against respiratory disease as well as protecting the fetus from BVD infection and abortion from these viruses.

Welcome to the first annual Coyote Flats Charolais bull sale. It is with great sincerity that I would like to thank the Lohues Family for bringing me on board with the purebred cow herd operation.

2015 was a shift in gears for my family and me, moving from north east Saskatchewan, downsizing our farm and shifting focus from Angus cattle to Charolais. Mark and George have assembled a great set of productive females and added key pieces to making sure their customers continue to have success in the cattle business. I feel that the quality is second to none in both the yearling and two year old bull pens. The groups of bulls have been selected for traits of calving ease, calf vigor, natural performance, disposition and high level structural soundness. The bulls on offer are what I would describe as “True Terminal Sires” offering explosive growth, maximizing your bottom line with pounds of calf weaned and sold. The “Win-Win” program we offer is flat out “Neat” so feel free to call and see how we can be your partner in the cattle business.

The bull calves go through this vaccination program as well and before leaving the farm they also receive Fusogard and the booster for protection against footrot during the breeding season.

Coyote Flats Charolais has a comprehensive herd health program and have invited the Coaldale Veterinary Clinic to work closely with them in all aspects of their cattle operation. This involves everything from pregnancy diagnosis and breeding soundness evaluation of the bulls, to regular herd health visits for examinations of sick animals, and also training purposes. It has been a privilege to work closely with Coyote Flats Charolais in all aspects of cattle health.

Terms & Conditions Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made.

Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final.

Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements.

Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured.

Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made.

Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk.

Breeder Guarantee – Bulls: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported

in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price.

Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.

By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfilment of all guarantees and representations.

Insurance: Insurance will be available sale day.

Pictures: By attending the sale you are granting permission for your picture to be used for promotional and advertising purposes relating to the sale.
