Don’t panic if you haven’t got your bull buying done early, as this later sale will have something to fit anyone’s desires. The quality of the bulls in this sale continues to impress and there are definite herdsire prospects for the most discriminating purebred or commercial producers. The quality in both breeds this year is excellent with both proven and exciting lead time genetics being offered. The WRAZ program is really gelling with some excellent bulls from calving ease, to performance, to high maternal, that will work for you. The pedigrees are very interesting as well in their offering, so have a close look. The Charolais bulls again provide calving ease plus performance. The Brimner bulls are good haired, big volume bulls that will work at all levels of the industry. The first sons of Infusion have added performance and shape. Red cows and white bulls have been the Cornerstone of the commercial industry for decades and will continue to be popular from the sale ring to the packing house. Using a quality bull is the first step to herd improvement and they are here in both breeds. Again this year there is a good offering of open Red Angus and Red Angus X Charolais open replacement heifers that would be excellent additions to an existing operation or a great place to start a new herd. If Candace or I can be of any assistance before the sale or on sale day, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We would be happy to help you find a bull that is right for your program. Sincerely, Helge & Candace By • By Livestock • Tel 306.584.7937 • Cell 306.536.4261

your investment. If you do run into an issue that requires an insurance claim please give me a call anytime and I would be happy to help you through the process. Prices have been up and down throughout the year and I have heard many times that these calves need to be worth more than they are, $1000 is not enough! I realize they are not where they were the last couple of years but may I remind you of the not too distant past where $700 was a great price for steers. (I know expenses have gone up tremendously). In general terms the market seems to have stabilized now and we are still well above average prices as long as you did not hit one of the soft spots and I know some of you did, myself included. The markets in general have more volatility than ever before and the livestock market is no different. There are opportunities out there to price at profitable levels and there is also an insurance program in place that allows you to put a bottom under your production for those unforeseen market soft spots and world issues that affect the market whether you sell them as calves, background them or finish them. These tools are available to all of us to lower our risk and they are bankable if we use them. I still believe the livestock industry has a very bright future. We may have to get our heads around the fact that we are producing food in the form of high quality beef and listen to the market/consumer more than ever before in the past but I do believe the opportunity to excel and be profitable in the beef industry is before us. Our goal here at WRAZ is to supply you with quality genetics that will maintain or improve your program to enable you to be profitable today and into the future. Our genetic investment in bulls is by far the most important decision any of us will make for our herds/programs no matter what market we sell into and we would be happy to help you with your selection anytime. Do not forget that the commercial cattle industry is the backbone of the entire beef industry across the globe. Thanks for your interest! We would also like to welcome Coreen Langford, Red Ember Ranch, to the sale this year with two really solid bulls. Buy with confidence – they sell backed by the same breeder integrity you would expect from BRIMNER and WRAZ. All the best ~ Phil

Welcome to the 9th Annual CORNERSTONE “More Bang for Your Buck” Bull and Commercial Female Sale! Integrity is right at the top of the list for the programs within this catalogue so buy with the confidence of knowing we will be there for you before and after the gavel falls. We would also like to invite you to our annual open house/customer appreciation day Saturday April 1. Come out and experience a little WRAZ hospitality and preview the sale offering as well as their dams with calves at foot, siblings and sires – really the whole WRAZ program at a glance in one afternoon! Come any time after 1:30 and have a good look at our program then stop by the barn for some of Lana’s fine hospitality. I know we are all inundated with stacks of catalogues with bulls to choose from so I would like to thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to have a look at our offering. I would also like to thank our past buyers for their previous investment and believing in our genetics. We do spend a tremendous amount of time and $$$ searching out the next era of genetics available in the world that we feel will help our customers programs progress into the future. I do appreciate your input of any specific genetic needs you may require as I search for our next great one. We also are always available if you have any needs after the sale – the old adage that if you have livestock you have deadstock is a true statement. Bulls are live animals and with that, unforeseen circumstances do arise and we are here to help if you need us, so do not hesitate to call anytime no matter what happens – we will work it out if you allow us the opportunity! Insurance is always available sale day so help yourself as well and buy some insurance to protect

Red Ember Ranch (EMBR) began in 2007 with 2 registered Red Angus cows. The herd has been built on strong maternal cows that raise profitable calves on their own. The EMBR bull program is based on offering bulls that I would select for use in my own herd. I will tell you everything I know about each bull and I will stand behind them 100%. A huge thank you to WRAZ Red Angus for the support and quality genetics they have provided over the years. I am proud of the opportunity to be a part of the Cornerstone Bull Sale because I know it’s comprised of programs that work and are based on integrity. Please feel welcome any time to come view sale bulls and/or the whole herd. We are located 3 miles south and 4 miles west of Kisbey, SK. If there is any information that I can provide just call or text. I am always happy to talk cows! We really appreciate your time, thank you! I could speak volumes about this excellent Herdsire but I will do this in point form to keep it short. I will say that he is the most influential sire we have used and he will definitely leave his mark here and in other programs across the globe. His progeny have been well accepted both male and female. • Daughters are now milking and they are excellent uddered with plenty of milk. • Progeny are very good footed and structurally correct. • Progeny are well above average at feed conversion and flesh very easily. • Progeny have a great hair coat • Progeny are born easily with excellent birth to wean growth • Progeny are thick and full of muscle and red meat • He has the ability to add a little frame yet keep progeny stout and easy fleshing

The only Ghostrider son in the sale this year and he is a good one! Out of our Cornerstone female donor Serebl 95N. Full flush sister WRAZ 2D sold in the mighty Red Round Up sale to Blair Ag – good eye guys. Use this guy to add frame and produce females that will excel in production. Buy your herdsire from a female with a proven track record. Top 1% in both STAY and HPG – not often mentioned in the EPD world, but give some thought to what our industry tends to focus on and then tell me if fertility is as important or more important to your bottom line. He weighed 730 on August 19 and 801 on Sept 8 so you could say he genetically has the best of both worlds. Keep all the daughters!

CALVING EASE FEATURE. Here is yet another one that goes back to the super Serebl 95N donor female at WRAZ. This cow family is as good as it gets – full of long, big bodied, strong producing females. On the top side you will find the calving ease sire Toast 30T with 8 years of offspring and a BW EPD in the top 1% of the breed. Whiskey Toast is the best of both worlds combining exceptional maternal strength with all that calving ease. Whiskey Toast was managed with the pen of bulls at WRAZ. He weighed 839 on Nov 7 before starting on feed. Consigned by Red Ember Ranch | Kisbey, SK | 306-575-0254

We have successfully used Big Rock on large groups of heifers with excellent calving ease but he also works very well on cows especially if you are looking to retain females and you would like to inject a little more calving ease into the progeny. The Big Rock udders are second to none with plenty of milk. He typically leaves them dark red with a great coat of long hair. His EPDs will become better with time as he was an aged sire before there were any registered progeny. He was used commercially for 3 seasons before I brought him back into the program after seeing his excellent females. Great rumen capacity, feed conversion, foot structure and testicle development.

We have very successfully used his sire on heifers for some time now and his dam is by Hitch, another calving ease sire we used heavily. There is very consistent calving ease bred in here but not so much that you give up a good calf at weaning. This guy will also have enough grow and maternal strength that you can keep his daughters – Big Rock leaves a very good udder – move him to the cow pen when he physically gets too big for the heifer pen.

There is a lot of bull here for a sire we used very successfully on large groups of heifers. Don’t be afraid of his birthweight – his momma is at least 1500 lbs (1500 x 7% = 105 lb expected birthweight) I am confident in the calving ease regardless of what he weighed at birth. He had naval ill as a baby and ended up with more naval than I would like to see but rest assured, it is not a genetic issue. Our vet will give him a very thorough examination at semen test time and he will be culled if there is any possibility of any breeding issues. This fella would do an admirable job on a group of cows that you would like to calve out on pasture. He will have enough calving ease but also make you happy ($$$$) when his progeny cross the scale.

Opportunity 98B is a sire we brought in to add frame and pounds at weaning. The sons are a Red Angus option with growth similar to other breeds the industry is using as a crossbreeding option. It is important for the commercial industry to have options to cross up with – F1 hybrid vigor is the only thing I know of that has any value that is still free!! We are still getting paid by the pound in the industry and I do not see that changing anytime soon. If you have been crossing up an angus based cow herd with another breed and keeping the females I believe these sons would be a great option for you to keep the pounds at weaning and cross back to Red Angus again. I have Opportunity daughters lactating now and I am convinced the maternal strength of these high growth bulls will be unusually strong and the females will be very valuable. Those of you that are into EPDs his numbers are off the charts!! Top 1% in WW, YW, Milk, TM, CW, HPG and Carcass EPDs at top as well - top 9% MARB, top 35% REA. Very interesting!

Although I will not tell anyone that Opportunity is a bull to be used on heifers, WRAZ 83D is the result of our Opportunity 98B (full brother to the $55000 Marriota) bred to a heifer. She had him unassisted which in my mind is waaaay more important than any other measureable calving ease trait! I guess my point is I always put a few heifers with a new bloodline and we successfully used him on ten heifers so I will let you be the judge as to where this guy fits your program. I do know one thing for sure – these Opportunities will grow and if you are backgrounding or fattening your calves, they have a ton of hair and they will respond well in the feedlot!

OPPORTUNITY AWAITS YOU! I will stick my neck out and predict that this feature son of Opportunity 98B has a tremendous future ahead. The dam to this guy is Sheba 40X. She is a Tycoon daughter that has done it every single mating. Her first son by Hitch is breeding at Moose Creek Red Angus, her first daughter by Hitch is in Leon Roy’s great herd and another son by Ghostrider is breeding registered females for Red Ember Ranch. Opportunity 173D is a top end sire with balanced performance and very strong maternal throughout his pedigree. Sires with performance like this are rarely able to maintain the maternal aspects we would like but I believe this one will. If EPDs are worth their salt then he is an outlier – top 1% in WW, YW, CW, TM while maintaining above breed average MILK, above average CARCASS, average STAY and above average HPG. If you want to produce females that are in great demand and males that excel in every aspect that the real beef industry requires then have a look at this guy. If you are interested in making a statement of change away from this short sighted, ultra-low birth weight journey that many in our industry seem to be focused on then please give me a call! I truly believe the current path will eventually end badly for our industry. Opportunity 173D will sell one way or another on sale day but I am open to any discussion (commercial programs do not forget that you are the backbone of this beef industry and I would be very pleased to work/partner with any one of you) and the buyer will ultimately decide the rules. My goal is to incorporate his genetics into our program, but that decision will ultimately be the choice of the successful bidder.

Here is a perfect example of BW not being a consistent indicator of calving ease. He may very well calve as his BW indicates and be okay on well grown out heifers, but I would like to see him on second calvers or cows. My guess is he will calve well but with a little more BW than he has himself and not as consistent as one would like for first calf heifers. In the short term he will pass on growth and carcass qualities to improve your bottom line, but his daughters will be his long term strength.

The females are developing very nicely and I expect his females will end up being his true value although it will be next spring before we have a group of them lactating. His dam was the deciding factor on purchasing him so I am pretty confident the female side will prove to be very good. His sire was a former Denver Champion for Six Mile and is now deceased.

Very strong cow family here with a sire that is real hard to fault.

This is the last set of Top Star calves as he was injured beyond repair. I bought Top Star for his foot and structure and on the strength of his beautiful donor dam T204. The daughters we have are very correct and near impossible to fault. Couple this with the greatness in his dam’s family and the recipe spells great females! Granddam and Great-Granddam are both designated CAA Preimer dams.

We have three very good daughters in the herd and Red Ember Ranch recently acquired one for their excellent young herd. 206T has been in our donor program as well and she will be flushed again soon. Top Star 127D would be her first son and I believe he will breed on very well. The Top Star females have exceeded our expectations and this mating with 206T will only add to my expectations of this young sire. Keep the females.

Here is a good, solid, Top Star son for the cow pen. His dam is not a small female and his 102 lb birth weight is well within the 7% rule of thumb (some say it should be 8% and I would agree – 1500 x 7% = 105 lb). I guarantee his dam is at least 1500 lb. If you have a herd of crossbred cows, this is the kind of bull you want to improve your bottom line. Last time I checked, we still sell our steers by the pound and bulls like this will make your cows pay their way by their progeny pushing down on the scale at the sale barn.

If you are in need of a young sire to add a little milk to your next set of females then you may want to have a look here. Granddam 502N is rated by the CAA to be Premier dam with 13 progeny – 8 of them are recognized as Grand Calves which is no small feat. The maternal strength runs deep here on both side of this pedigree so use him on cows to add milk and make some great females.

This fella does carry some birth weight but don’t let that bother you – more importantly he was born unassisted. There is a tremendous alignment of maternal qualities here and well above average docility as well. Use him on a good set of cows and he will leave you great weaning weights and excellent females with well above average pelvic area.

He was high seller in 2011 at $47,500 into Kansas then sold again to Rick Rohrich, in ND, where he is still actively breeding today. The style and eye appeal alone that Swayze 141D will pass on to his sons and daughters will be worth the investment but that won’t be all he will do for you. Maternal sister 115C caught Rick’s attention in the fall female sale and she now resides in ND. 141D has decent calving ease and could be used on heifers but he would work well on cows too. Welcome to the Annual Cornerstone Bull Sale 2017! Wow, is it just me or is time flying by faster these days! It’s bull sale time again and we have a great set of bulls for you. They are soft made bulls with hair and muscle. The Trojan sons bring the calving ease everyone loves. The Infusion sons follow with the same with tremendous shape and muscle. This is the first year for Excel sons. You have to admire the hair, length and power in these boys. These athetic bulls aren’t pampered and are ready to go to work. I would like to thank all the bidders and buyers over the years who have shown confidence in our program. Feel free to call or come to the farm and see the bulls in their natural environment. We have all seen the premiums for good Charcross calves again this fall, so don’t miss out. See you sale day! ~ Kelly

We added Excel to our program to add a little more power and dimension. He puts that great hair coat on his calves and has a nice big foot under him. Calves are very strong and vigorous at birth.

This is one powerful March born Excel son. He’s big footed, soggy and long bodied. From a great uddered dam, she is one of my favorite cows. 181D has that great haircoat that Excel puts on his offspring.
