From the desk at T Bar…
Welcome to the eleventh annual “Best of the Breeds” Bull Sale. 2015 comes with a little change... since Parkland Livestock is closed, this annual leading event has been moved to Heartland at Yorkton, a stranger to no one in the area and a sale barn in which several of you market your calves. The most important feature has not changed.....”Best of the Breeds” remains one of the few one-stop shopping events in Western Canada every spring. It is a sale designed to supply necessary breeds in the livestock industry with both Continental and British influence. The Continental breeds, Charolais, Simmental and Gelbvieh will add performance and pounds of calf at weaning while complimenting the British Black and Red Angus who bring maternal and calving ease components. This sale allows farmers and ranchers to evaluate some of the finest representatives of their respective breeds...all under one roof in one trip! This is not a consignment sale...it is a group of leading producers, whose herds are not large enough to sustain their own stand alone event. Each breeder is a leader within their respective breed and dedicated to supply the highest of quality for their customers. Each breeder takes advantage of the use of artificial insemination, adding cutting-edge genetics to their programs and keeping their customer requirements in mind. Congratulations to all who have weathered the ten year storm...I’m sure all have thought you were crazy at one time or another...your friends and neighbors were at the curling rink, while you were calving cows. Well...your persistence has paid off...you can drink any color of coffee you want! Last fall, we experienced the best replacement market in history....and it’s only just begun. To rebuild our cow herd numbers will take years...so remember that one half of your calf crop will be female...therefore, maternal values will carry much more importance whether you are selecting British, Continental or both. Plan to be with us at Heartland in Yorkton for one of the feature events of the spring sale season. Come early, view the bulls and be guests for a marvelous noon lunch, complete with refreshments. If we, at T Bar C, may be of any assistance, prior to or sale day, feel free to give Ted, Shane or myself a call...we would be pleased to assist you with your selections.

We would like to welcome you to the 2015 edition of the Best of the Breeds Bull Sale. It looks like 2014 turned out to be the tip of the iceberg when it comes to beef prices. Record-setting prices are common throughout the country with many producers averaging over $1800 per calf or more. These are prices we can get used to. Congratulations on hanging in there over the past 12 years. Now is the time to put some of that extra cash to work by purchasing a quality Charolais herdsire. Our bull pen this year is as strong as we have ever had. We feature performance bulls that are sound structurally, have quiet dispositions, and great hair coats. Calving ease is one of the most important things we strive for and not only is built into the bulls, but it is a top priority for our females as well. You can trust that the bull you buy will leave you the kind of calves that will top the market and breed cows for years to come! Feel free to call us if you are interested in any of the bulls, or stop by and see them before the sale. We would be happy to show you around. See you sale day!

His mother is our best two year old that has that extra depth we all want. She milks heavy with an almost perfect udder. His sire LT Ledger is a bull that is bursting onto the scene as a great calving ease bull with enough jam to get it done. Breeder bull for sure! Video available March 1st.

Dogpatch Acres Charolais
Welcome to the 11th Annual Best of the Breeds Sale from Dogpatch Acres.
The 2014 cattle run is one that will go down in recent history as the year our dreams came true! Not that long ago we all talked about higher prices, but nobody anticipated the prices to soar as high as they are. Strong demand and high prices make it a great time to be part of this great industry. 2014 saw our first crop of calves off our walking bull, CSS Sir Gridmaker 2W. Over 50 judges across the prairies picked this guy to top the show circuit. He has went on to become a great breeding legend and his calves follow right in his footprints. We are so proud to own this great bull! He has been used A.I. on 1000’s of heifers and will offer the calving ease and performance that we all desire. Put him on your cow herd and watch the calves explode with red meat, thickness and a great hair coat. We walked the Gridmaker bull, and AI’ed to some of our proven AI bulls to produce a genetically diverse bull pen that focuses on functionality. Reasonable birth weights, excellent growth, and longevity.
I know each year guys say “this is my best crop of bulls ever”, but this year’s bull pen is out of this world! This year we were pleasantly surprised as we weighed October 29, 2014 and thirty bulls averaged 940 lbs!

Right from the start this guy has been a performer. Summits mother is a big deep cow and Summit follows her pattern. Combine that with the performance and natural thickness of Gridmaker, this guy is truely a power bull. All this wrapped up in a lots of curly hair. Reccomended for mature cows.

Fusion is a younger calf that is the spitting image of his father. A thick square hip that carries down his quarter. Smooth fronted and deep bodied this youngster has guys eyeing him up in the pen all the time. A nice haircoat and great disposition to boot. His below average BW EPD and impressive actual weaning weight , make this guy one to mark down sale day.

This guy started out a little bigger and never looked back! This long spined calf has depth as well. Renegade will put some stretch into the calves and ultimately pounds on the scale. He will be a great choice for those with an Angus based herd as the horns won’t matter. With his long spine, small head, and smooth front, Renegade’s calves will pop out easily and hit the ground growing. Run him with your mature cows and reap the Charolais advantage.

Thickness and capacity are evident in this bull’s moderate profile. We purchased his mother off the top of the Perrot-Martin dispersal and she has not disappointed us. She adds volume and thickness to her calves and a gentle disposition. Combine that with all the great attributes of Gridmaker, and you can see why Citation is a bull that can be purchased with confidence.

Calving Ease Specialist. You’re not going to find many bulls with a spread in their numbers like FXR. From a very low BW EPD to a way above average yearling weight EPD, this hairy rascal has got all the based covered. FXR has a calving ease pedigree on both sides. Well muscled and the thick curly hair coat from his father makes this choice an easy one. An unassisted birth out of a first calf heifer.

Phantom is a smaller framed bull that will work on cows or heifers. His lower birth weight and smooth front end indicates calving ease, and his nearly 1000 lb. weaning weight shows he has got some jam. His sire Pleasant Dawn Rio 136X was used very successfully on heifers in our program as well as Pleasant Dawn’s herd in Manitoba. With LT Rio Blanco in his pedigree you know he has the grow!
When the Zentner cattle came to our pasture last summer, it was obvious that the calves had tremendous potential. They developed extremely well throughout the pasture season. The depth of quality and uniformity of type in both males and females is impressive. Featured is an outstanding group of bull calves sired by Dogpatch’s senior herdsire, CSS GRIDMAKER 2W. Give your crossbreeding program a boost with these sound, well muscled, high performance bulls. Make an effort to check out this bull pen at the farm prior to the sale. In my opinion you will not find a better offering of yearling bulls.
John Perrot Dogpatch bulls are vaccinated with Pyramid 5 plus Presponse and Vision 8 spring and fall and will have both shots of Fusogaurd by sale time.
