From the desk at T Bar…

Breeder quality with customer satisfaction is what makes an event grow and prosper or go the other way! From a small plan by Merv Schmidt (Belmont Charolais) thirteen years ago, “Best of the Breeds” has become a supply centre for five breeds and a “must attend” source for genetic quality... this fact is proven by the demand of many repeat customers over the past twelve years. At the onset, the plan was to supply local area livestock producers; but the plan altered, as customers have selected bulls nationwide! This group of breeders come together with one common goal.... produce and supply the finest genetics possible for their customers to profit by. The mix of breeds is ideal as they are the tools for successful cross-breeding. The powerful performance of the continental breeds mated to the British breed with high maternal and calving traits is the ideal combination for the producer, the sale barn, the packer and Mrs. Consumer. After touring the herds, we are excited about this powerful yet diverse offering of sires. Several breeder quality bulls will headline this event in addition to a strong group of ranch bulls with hair, shape and testicles.... ready to get the job done. Feel free to visit any of the herds and preview the bulls in their own environment where you can see the mothers or call any of these progressive breeders and they can answer any queries you might have. The bulls will be available for viewing on Saturday, the day prior. Plan to be with us at Heartland, Yorkton on Sunday March 26th for lucky thirteen ‘Best of the Breeds Bull Sale.” Come early and be guests for a complimentary noon luncheon, complete with hot and cold refreshments. Top bulls...top breeders...great hospitality....you owe it to your cows! If we may be of assistance prior to or sale day feel free to call any of the T Bar Team or myself, we are willing to assist you in a professional, confidential manner.

Charolais

Welcome all cattlemen to Best of the Breeds 13. Again this year we have an excellent pen of bulls. No bulls are pre-sold. Buying quality bulls is where it all starts, as you know. Our focus is on providing the best genetics that will provide top quality bulls for your selection. We have a nice blend of calving ease and performance bloodlines with extra hair and as always, great dispositions. We pride ourselves in bulls that are easy to handle and will work for you. Congratulations to those of you who sold market topping Char-cross calves again this past fall. Your commitment to the Charolais cross calf has earned you some extra dollars for sure. Now`s the time to put those dollars to work in selecting your next herdsire.

Doug, Tammy & Family

Thank you to our past buyers and bidders for your support of our program. Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions. We are always happy to talk cows.

See you on sale day!

Stetson is a great example of a meat machine. He is soft made, stout, athletic and correct. You can’t beat his temperament or that thick haircoat he has. His sire topped Sparrow’s sale and we purchased his mother from Horseshoe E – a high seller from the Sterling! The Escobar sons are very consistent and the daughters are going to outshine the sons. Moderate birth weight with explosive performance. Stetson will leave an imprint on the breed before he is done. You can put on a lot of miles to find a bull like this. Check him out!

Chrome is everything we were hoping for when we used PCC Rome. He is long, smooth, soft made, correct and very quiet. 604D is the son of the reigning Agribition Grand Champion Bull PCC Rome 437D. This young herd bull is patterned just like his sire. Impressive to say the least. Everything on the check list of a future herd bull fits 604D. Great feet and legs, character head, big set of testicles.Exceptional disposition. He comes from a superior cow family. His mother 515R was high selling female in the Sterling as a bred heifer. Arguably the best female produced that year at Perrot Martin Charolais. She then produced HBC IKEA 220Z, the mother of HBC G2, the high selling Ledger son from 2015. G2 produced the second high selling heifer calf from the 2016 Sterling Sale to Hopewell Charolais. Genetic power is built into this great young prospect!

This guy looks like he has an extra rib! His mother is a fantastic female that Justin showed successfully through 4-H and then in CCYA at Yorkton. Cooper is my pick of the Friar Tuck sons. He is correct, sound, deep, soft made and has that herd bull look to him. His 14 year old mother did a great job on him. A maternal brother sold to Brimner Charolais a few years back. Lots of potential here.

Zeplin has a ton of hair and tremendous performance. He will add pounds to your calf crop without giving up calving ease. His length of body balances well with his good foot and leg structure.

Dogpatch Acres Charolais

Welcome to the 13th Annual Best of the Breeds bull sale. As the cattle herds get larger and we get another year older, it is more important to have” hands off “cattle that take care of themselves. The goal is to raise the most pounds of live calf possible. This starts with selecting a herd sire with calving ease built in, and the performance to produce the pounds of red meat by fall.

This year’s offering is a bit younger than normal. We were into our third week of calving before we got a bull calf! We have on offer moderate framed bulls that possess the characteristics that are important to us, like calving ease, hair, growth and disposition to name a few. We used some exciting new AI sires to compliment our own bull battery. We consider Cederdale Zeal 125Z as a proven heifer bull. Winn Man’s Big Rig is a new bull we tried with a low birth weight and a lot of thickness and hair. Kayr Velocity is a performance bull for those of you who can handle a little more birth weight, but has some extra punch down the line. Finally, CSS Gridmaker needs no introduction. We are proud of this year’s younger offering and know you will really like the thickness uniformity and consistency we are bringing. Check out the videos at www.dogpatchacres.com

Looky here boys!!! A smooth polled red bull with tons of hair, volume, and length. A real clean front end, and a top you can shoot pool on! This is a bull that can set you up in a purebred operation or top the market with a bunch of calves that look like this. By the way have a look at his birth weight EPD. A red herd sire you can confidently throw into your heifer pen. Dagwood started out backwards, but he definitely has things going in the right direction. All out of a first calf heifer. Homo Polled. That’s right, 73 pounds. Our success with the first calvers and Zeal is remarkable. The best part is the calves grow well and are very stylish. His dam is sired by the Supreme Champion CSS Gridmaker 2W, which transfers his depth and thickness through his offspring. Here is a opportunity to introduce a bull with a proven pedigree for calving ease into any heifer pen, red, white or black. Homo Polled.

You would never think Dunes was one of the youngest calves in our offering. This proven genetic combination works. A calf with loads of growth and style. Over the past two years, his two full brothers proved to be very popular at the sale, and are working for the Monty Frick herd at Duff, SK., and the John Barsi herd at Melville, SK.

Red Heifer bull. 75 pounds, red, polled and weaning 895 pounds. You have been waiting for this guy for a while, and what a great opportunity to get the red Charolais advantage in your heifer pen. He may of started out small, but he ain’t no slouch when it comes to weigh in. Long red hair and a big square top will add some extra value to your heifer pen.

Backed up by two championship pedigrees, you know you are getting quality here. With a great birth weight, and giving up a month or more to some of the older bulls, you can tell this guy has got some real growth potential in him. Although the youngest calf in our offering, Dreamster is one you will want to mark down. Homo Polled.

Power bull that will add some stretch in your calf crop. A little bigger birth weight from a mature cow, but if you can handle that, look out when his calves hit the ring. Both sides of this pedigree focus on calving ease, which is obvious with his negative birth weight EPD. Freightliner has a slightly larger frame than the other two Big Rig calves. His extra length and smooth front come from the Silver Bullet background, and the red meat making capability is brought on from Big Rig himself.
