What a great opportunity to get in on a record high seller and one of the hottest bulls on the market! Kingston has already made a name for himself in the Charolais world by producing high selling sons and highly productive females both in the pasture and in the show ring. The first set of Kingston sons averaged over $7,500 and the high seller at $20,000 to A. Sparrow Farms and Pro‐Char Charolais. This past spring, Kingston calves averaged over $11,000 with a high seller at $18,000 to Semex and the last two years Kingston sons have been the ACA Select Champion Bull. We are excited for the opportunity to offer a pick of our bull pen at the National Sale. We are second generation purebred breeders that have grown our cow herd and built our business up to selling 60 bulls annually. We are unique in that we market all of our bulls by private treaty. The bull pen page on our website has proven to be an effective tool and has helped us sell bulls to all corners of Saskatchewan and throughout Canada. We have had the pleasure of building a loyal and progressive group of both purebred and commercial customers. We have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with each of our customers, walking through our bull pen, understanding their needs and helping them select bulls. By selling bulls off the farm, we do miss out on the excitement of an auction so we are proud to offer THE PICK OF OUR BULL PEN. We run a very productive and functional cow herd of 180 registered females. 80% of our cows calve in January. To achieve this, we use AI sires and proven walking bulls to cover the cows. The Steppler 83U bull has made the biggest impact on our herd. He is extremely consistent in type and quality and his daughters are awesome. LAE Land Baron has added size, length and style. We are excited to see his first daughters milking this year. The AI sires we use are LT Ledger, LT Sundance and Merit Roundup. These are calving ease sires with excellent maternal traits. Winn Mans BigRig, Canyon, and Silverstream Geddes are performance type bulls with great shape and natural thickness. We once again have a great selection of bulls with a lot to offer. Snowflake’s mother was purchased at the Agribition Sale two years ago, and then went on to be the Reserve Jr Heifer Calf Champion. Her mother, Amethyst, is an excellent milker with a picture perfect udder. 504C is a very correct heifer with lots of hair. The Roundup/ Landmark cross is impressive and consistent. Here is a super Firestruck daughter coming from one of our top cow families. Her grandmother came from Horseshoe E at the Sterling Collection sale a few years back and has been nothing but exceptional! The Firestruck calves have been a blessing to our operation and the oldest ones being yearlings are as balanced in their makeup as one would want. Connie’s full sib is in our show string as a yearling, check her out! Connie will continue to be competitive in the show ring but most importantly will develop into and produce ones that rise to the top! Speaking of rising to the top she was recently Heifer calf champion for my daughter’s 4-H project. We are very impressed with our first crop of Zeal calves and Bo-Peep is from the top of our heifer pen. She has great length, lots of rib shape and capacity, and plenty of style. We feel she will be very competitive on the show road and turn a lot of heads. CCA SCHOLARSHIP ART AUCTION RUSSELL PAINTS A MASTERPIECE BY ANDY THOMAS Giclee on Canvas 6/16 Artist Proof
This is one of Thomas’ most creative images. From the artist’s canvas emerges the legendary Charlie Russell at his easel, contemplating his work. Thomas has painted several of Russell’s paintings within his own painting. This amazing work was featured in the March issue of Western Art Collector Magazine. Tickets will be auctioned at the sale with the proceeds going to the Canadian Charolais Association Scholarship Fund. If you would like to support this worthwhile cause and are unable to attend, please give the management a call. Donated by Ron Kletzel: Ron Kletzel was involved with Charolais from a very early age. His grandfather purchased the first purebred bull that Rudiger Charolais sold the fall of 1960. They purchased their first females from the Michaelis Ranch in Texas in 1961 as well as the 1st purebred female sold in the 1st consignment sale in Canada from Rodney James. His family imported 1 bull and 2 females in the first French Importation and over the years imported 4 bulls and 8 females from France. They had the 1st and 3rd high gaining bulls, the same year, twice at the U of S Test Station sired by their own herd bulls. Ron, whose farm name was Char-Ron Charolais from Denzil, Saskatchewan had the 1977 Agribition Grand Champion Bull and the 1980 Grand Champion Female both sired by their own herd sires. Successfully showed his own cattle at shows like the World Show, Agribition and Denver as well as sticking cattle for other breeders at shows including the Toronto Royal, Denver, Houston and more. He was one of the first Canadians to be placed on the American Charolais judging list. Ron is retired and living in Edmonton. He was an art dealer for many years and is now donating his remaining prints to different organizations that he can help out.
CCYA SEMEN AUCTION The Semen Auction is a fundraiser run by the Canadian Charolais Youth Association (CCYA), where semen from top bulls in the breed is generously donated from various breeders across the country. All funds directly support the youth. The semen donated is auctioned off at one of the fall sales, and all proceeds go towards programs of the National Board. Particularly, leadership scholarships are presented at the conference and show from funds raised through the Semen Auction, recognizing senior members on their contribution to the Charolais breed and their leadership among other Charolais youth members. The CCYA National Board would like to thank everyone who has donated and supported in the past for making our programs and scholarship opportunities possible for our youth.
