Preface The writings contained in the “Life Lessons” series draw on my personal experiences, recollections, insights, and acquired knowledge. These writings come from the heart. They are purposefully filled with emotion. Therefore, I used poetry for the most part. I am not a poet. Those with expertise in such matters will certainly confirm this. Nevertheless, my use of poetry enabled me to open my heart. These poems reflect a combination of my observations and experiences in the world at large. Clearly, my personal life colors what I have to say. Some of these poems are written in the “first” person. Most of them speak in terms of “we” or “you,” rather than “I.” The poems are obviously saturated with my own beliefs and philosophies. I hope the reader will find some small dose of wisdom included in each poem.

A Christmas Perspective December 3, 2017 Most, welcome Christmas season. Look forward, to the cheer. The holidays, happy and light. A special, time of year. But some people, cynical. Others, just don’t believe. And those, enduring loss and pain. At Christmas time, they grieve. Yet Christmas, enters each of us. Not always, when we think. The date, marked on the calendar? With our lives, might not sync. Christmas, comes and goes, all year. Not just, on Christmas Day. Christmas, appears in different forms. Arrives, in diverse ways. It can be felt, in winter. But also, in the spring. Might touch us, during summer heat. With first chill, that fall brings. Joyful, bright celebration. A solemn, quiet moment. With ornaments, decorations. Or, unprepared for it. Big and small, or without size. Invisible, yet seen. Fulfilling, or perhaps humbling. In times, both fat and lean. Christmas, is a memory. Or new, awakening. A feeling, that’s very peaceful. Big news, earth-shattering. Spiritual, in heart and soul. A very special, birth. Meaningful, in a deep manner. More than, just fun and mirth. Marriage or graduation. Promotion. Time of bliss. An invitation, to go out. An unexpected, kiss. Sometimes, it’s a loving look. During times, of despair. A contact, from an old, dear friend. A sign, that someone cares. A kind word, when most needed. A promise, that’s fulfilled. May be, a smile from a teacher. A proposal, that thrills. Christmas is a tender touch. A warm place, on cold nights. A simple meal, with family. In darkness, candlelight. 6
Action February 9, 2016 Twisting a phrase, from the Bard: “To do, or not to do?” That question, does baffle many. Trying, to think things through. Been guilty? Overthinking? Don’t want, to make mistakes? At times, must simply take action. Or progress, you won’t make. Do not be rash. Cavalier. That’s not, what I advise. But every action, does not need, forever, to decide. Accept, some of what you do, might not, turn out just right. Both thoughtful, and quick decisions. Can keep you up, at night. Wisdom, through experience. Helps overcome, your fears. Mistakes. Can be seeds for great growth. If you remain, sincere. Instincts, also play a role. “The gut,” might lead the way. A deeper sense, of “right and wrong.” Just might, come into play. You’ll crash, if you are always, just shooting, from the hip. You have a brain. So, use it well. Without it, you will slip. Sometimes, you should do nothing. Wrong, to overreact. “Doing nothing,” might be right…but…first, consider this fact. Life is built on doing things. Can’t, be always passive. You must take action, if you want, impact that is massive. Good advice. Think first, then act. Do use your brain, and heart. But action, is necessary. Or you’ll, get stuck at “start.” You cannot get, where you want. Without, taking action. “Doing” defines. Person you are. Without that. You’re lacking. Journey, allows for stumbles. Some gambles, worth the bet. You can’t move forward, standing still. Each day, take one big step.

Align January 11, 2016 Our actions, thoughts, and feelings. Work best, when they're aligned. If not, there's internal conflict. No peace, inside, you’ll find. When our brain and heart agree, decisions, are so clear. But if, there is disagreement. There’s grinding, in our gears. We might get stuck. Spin our wheels. Go backward. Go nowhere. Unless we align, these three things. Life will be hard, to bear. The world, is rather complex. Our lives, reflect that too. At times, we all do compromise. Trying, to make it through. “Mind” might tell, the “heart” to wait. Restrain, the way we feel. Patterns of thought, and logic rule. Solutions, are revealed. Restraint, and self-discipline. These can be good, for us. “Mind” takes the lead, through most tough tasks. “Heart” need not, make a fuss. Restraint, becomes a problem. If heart, always denied. Then restraint, will cause repression. In that, depression lies. There are moments, heart must lead. Can make decisions, too. But don’t, abandon all reason. Or problems, will ensue. The mind, should make connections. Between, feelings and thoughts. Allowing heart, sometimes to lead. Or your soul, will get lost. Logic, mostly leads the way. Emotions, guide at times. Best actions, linking both of these. A balance, you must find. If you can’t find, that balance, then often, you’ll be sad. Might hide it well. Or maybe not. Either way. Just as bad. Look, at your daily actions. Then just ask yourself: Why? Do thoughts AND feelings, guide actions? Does all of this, align? The root, of all your worries? It’s usually, inside. Align actions, with mind and heart. Inside, peace will reside. 8
Almost October 23, 2016 Almost did it. Almost won. I almost, reached the top. Or…almost missed it. Almost lost. I very nearly, flopped. “Almost,” is a unique thing. It lives, inside of us. Sits between, success and failure. Between, fearing and trust. Misunderstood, by many. Must learn, to face the fact. “Almost.” A form of measurement. And nothing more than that. “Almost,” is not an ally. It’s not, an enemy. Natural occurrence, in life. Doesn’t show, who we’ll be. Achieved. And still feel you’ve lost? “Almost,” played with your mind. Or in defeat, found victories? When looking back, through time. Humans, always want for more. Even, when we succeed. Want ALL things. Immediately. Fall short, in what we seek. “Almost,” catches each of us. Regardless, what we do. Yet “almost,” also strengthens us. Can make us better, too. “Almost.” With us through our lives. Face it, regularly. Find ways, to embrace each “almost.” Bridges, for you and me. Might hurt…yet, can motivate. No reason, for the blues. Can use it, for inspiration. Adjusting, attitude. Like, both winning and losing. It is, temporary. “Almost,” is just for the moment. As pain, and remedy. How it is. Life’s rise and fall. “Almost,” will soon arrive. So, do not worry about it. Part, of being alive. Focus, on the path ahead. Bright future, we can see. “Almost.” Is a part of the price. Success’s, entry fee.

Answer October 19, 2016 I’ve always been, assertive. Have not feared, decisions. Make up my mind. Do what I must. Most times, trust my vision. Throughout my life. Made tough calls. Many, challenges met. Not always right. Made some mistakes. A few, I do regret. In the big picture, I have been, “captain of my fate.” With all of that said. To be fair, some things, I should relate. There were, critical moments. Some pivotal, crossroads. No. I was not always certain, of just, which way to go. Early in life, I gave up. Love, would no longer seek. Personal life, was filled with pain. Was lonely. My heart weak. Made up my mind, this is it. Just focus, on my work. Replacing love, with career goals. Don’t let myself, be hurt. It was then, that she appeared. Revealed, how life could be. We stumbled, into each other. The truth is, love found me. At that point. A choice to make. One, that would change my life. Voices in my head. Debated. Tense. Could not, sleep at night. Past heartache, clouded my mind. The obvious, couldn’t see. But when I stopped, thinking so hard. The answer, came to me. Woke up one day. Doubts were gone. Chose love. Did not look back. I made the change. The way now clear. Adjusted, sails and tack. Sometimes, we do encounter. Decisions. Hard to make. Life has a way, of reaching out. Lighting, the path to take. Perhaps, we’re blessed. Some say, fate. Tough times, we all go through. Facing a wall? Stay strong. Have faith. Answer, will come to you.

Aspirations and Expectations October 4, 2018 Where, do we end up in life? Just how far, will we go? Circumstances, can impact us. Pushing us, high or low. But that’s not, the whole story. So much, is up to us. What we become. What we achieve. A champion. A bust. Mostly, set our own ceilings. On aspirations, based. If we don’t aspire, to great things…no chance, to win big race. Aspirations, light our fire. But we, must feed the flame. Use the fire. Forge dreams and goals. Burn hot, throughout life’s game. Aspiration’s great value? Is that, it’s our “north star.” Even when, the world blocks our path. Or cages us, with bars. Aspirations. Expectations. These are, two different things. Aspirations, where we’re aiming. What makes, our spirit sing. Practical expectations. Needed, to be our best. Our expectations, develop. Growing, as we progress. Progress, is not a straight line. We won’t, pass every test. Expectations, can be tempered. To fit, long-term process. Expectations, should increase, as skill and wisdom grow. Aspirations, cannot be reached, if expectations, low. Use your “north star,” to guide you. But please, remember this: You only deserve, what you earn. Work, for what you wish. Expectations. Long-term goals. Linked, to aspirations. But none of this, will come to you, without, perspiration.

Believe December 16, 2015 At Christmas. Often reflect. On that, which I believe. I think, beyond decorations. And gifts, I might receive. This world of ours, is much more, than what, we “hear” and “see.” These physical senses, guide us. In some ways, they are key. Touch and smell, and taste as well. Aid us, in many ways. They help us, understand our world. Gain knowledge, every day. Data, logic, and reason. I live with OCD. Plans, designs, blueprints, and flowcharts. Often, dominate me. But not all things, can be known. In this, concrete manner. Some hidden things, are very real. Not, just solid matter. Senses, also can confuse. Point, in wrong directions. Illusions, are a part of life. Real? Or just reflection? Do not see, the sun at night. Nor moon, during the day. Yet they are there, in spite of that. Not always, what eyes say. We can’t, see love. Or touch it. Yet feel, with all our might. And a sixth sense: “intuition.” Can be, a shining light. Other senses, embedded? Deep, within genetics? Could there be, a higher power? Not revealed, by metrics. We humans, are curious. Explanations, devised. Trying to make, world logical. On science, we rely. While science, may be useful. Doesn’t, always explain. There are mysteries, eternal. Many unknowns, remain. This brings me back, to Christmas. And what, it still can be. Good fellowship. And peace on earth. Gifts for friends. Family. A simple gift, from the heart. Can alter, a life-course. To understand, what “giving” means. You first, must find the source. 12
Why do we give? Tradition? In some ways, that is true. There’re some, social expectations. But here’s, another clue. Within us all, there’s “something.” Not just, psychology. That “something,” pushes us to give. That is, what I believe. You may say, our “soul’s” in charge. And maybe, you are right. Or might think, it’s something we learn. Picked up, during our life. It would be wrong, to tell you. The way, that you should think. But in my heart…what I believe. To “something else,” we’re linked. There’s much more, than what we know. And there, will always be. Some things, beyond understanding. And that’s, O.K. with me. Share your love…all through the year. To those, both close and far. Find in yourself, that special “link.” That defines, who you are. Be kind. Express deep feelings. Give freely, and you’ll see. That doing this, helps you to find, your true identity. Believe, beyond your senses. On faith, accept some things. Believe. Is what I ask of you. Let what’s inside you, sing.

Cards October 10, 2015 Life is life. You can't change that. Some good and bad. A mix. You do your best. You do what's right. Some wrong things, you can't fix. The cards are dealt, randomly. A new hand, every day. Life's not about, the cards your dealt. Life's, about how you play. Best hand, does not always win. Depends some, on your skill. There is some luck, involved of course. Good fortune. Shock and thrill. Cards can take, an ugly turn. It happens, to us all. The cards, don't favor anyone. Strange bounces, of the ball. Can think, you are a “victim,” when cards, don't fall your way. If you THINK, you are a victim, a big price, you will pay. Bad attitude, hurts your play. Most excuses, are lame. Don't fret about, the cards so much. Just focus, on the game. Choose, to work through the rough times. Persevere, through the game. There is no guarantee, you'll win. But battle, just the same. Some days, things will be so great. It all, falls right for you. The cards. Your skill. Some luck. And more. But those days, will be few. Your life, will be up and down. Still, most days, you can win. If you don't win, don't hang your head. Wrong message, you will send. And game rules? They do evolve. Dealer can change the rules. And yes, sometime the game is rigged. Some cheat. Others, just shrewd. Life’s game, can seem so complex. To some extent, that's true. But in some ways, it is simple. Some fair. Some unfair too. Of course, you do have a choice. Who, do you want to be? Will you play fair? But still pay hard? Mirror? What do you see? As for me, I've made my choice. I do know, who I am. I play my cards. Use all my skills. Always, do what I can. 14
I'm not a victim. Not me. And no, I will not cheat. I've won much more, than I have lost. Mistakes, rarely repeat. I play the cards, that I’m dealt. Help others, learn the game. Work hard. Play smart. Often, I win. In loss, I find no shame.

Corrections and Solutions March 19, 2017 “Corrections,” aren’t “solutions.” These words, misused often. Many corrections, might be made. Before, solving problem. Corrections, are steps we take. On pathway. Twist and turns. The solution, is the end game. The problem fixed, long-term. Announcing, there’s a problem, is not, a correction. Corrections, involve doing things, that lead to solution. As people, parents, leaders. Work, to make things better. Find mistakes. Redirect ourselves. Or, try to help others. Identify weaknesses. The flaws we see, point out. Then say, “These things must be addressed.” Whisper. Speak. Sometimes shout. Could be talking, to ourselves. Or perhaps, to others. But unless we know, “what to do.” It doesn’t, really matter. Bad “corrections,” don’t fix things. Instead, they make things worse. Become frustrated, with it all. Inside, feel we are cursed. Were we just, treating symptoms? The root, eluding us? Did we really know, what was wrong? Or too much, in a rush? Must understand, the problem. Before, we start our task. Or corrections, won’t really work. Pretend things solved. We mask. If we do know, “what is wrong.” But don’t know, “what to do.” Trial and error. Time and again. Can be frustrating too. Problems, rarely fix themselves. Proven methods, apply. But even then, these may not work. So, new ways, we must try. When somewhere, in the process, discover, “what to do.” We still could fail, to solve it all. If we, don’t follow through. Did we think, one correction, would fix, all that was wrong? Did we believe, a simple act, would really last for long? 16
If we make, good corrections, but fail, to persevere. Then all the things, we say and do, in time, will disappear. Corrections, must be sustained. Extended, over time. Think things through. Then be persistent. Solution, we will find.
17
Courage May 22, 2016 Fear is normal. Natural. An instinct, to survive. It is O. K., to be afraid. On instincts, we rely. So, don’t be afraid of “fear.” Don’t let it, discourage. For often, fear’s the guiding light. That leads us, to courage. Courage. Not a possession. Not a commodity. Courage is action. What we do. Courageous. We can be. Most acts of courage, are small. As are most, of our fears. But the little brave steps, we take. Add up, over the years. As time goes on. We do learn. Become, more confident. Mature. Face life’s tests. Overcome. The challenges, we’re sent. Not all of our fears, are small. Some loom large, over us. To take these on. Must stretch beyond. Our boundaries, of trust. It’s at this point. We do find. How wise we are. How strong. When fear is large. With much to lose. Knowing, what could go wrong. But when our fear, burns brightest. Can’t close our eyes, to it. May need to fight. Maybe escape. Or just endure. What fits? Courageous actions, differ. They come, in many forms. Knowing how to respond, is key. In wisdom, this is born. “Fight or flight,” within us all. Attack. Retreat. Disguise. Sometimes must run, to fight again. At times, must fight or die. Or sacrifice, our safety. To help. Protect others. All of these things, require courage. Fears, can make us better. Reckless? Foolish? Courageous? Yes, there is a fine line. Being bold. Taking big gambles. Results? Tragic? Sublime? There is, no easy answer. For fears, both large and small. As each us, different inside. No approach, that fits all. 18
The biggest acts, of courage. May come, after we fail. It’s at that moment, fears can win. Must not, let them prevail. Many, of our victories. Come after, a defeat. Because we turn. And try again. Our fears, this time, we beat. Fear, is not our enemy. But is, a challenger. See fear, as a competitor. Helps us, become tougher. Courage, is not who we are. Courage, is what we do. Use wisdom. Take action. Move on. The victory, pursue.

Creativity and Correctness March 22, 2017 Half of my brain, creative. The other half, proper. Today, they’re mostly unified. Both sides, work together. It was not, always like this. For years, there was conflict. Creative side, flowed freely. That, gave proper side, fits. Mind would argue, back and forth. Was unsure, what to do. The proper side, played by the rules. Opposed things, that were new. Other side, imagined life. Adventurous, and bold. Thrived on music, art, and beauty. Enjoyed, breaking the mold. Creative side, would tell me. “Color, outside the lines!” But the proper side, would insist. “Sky is blue, all the time.” One side, would tell me to play. “Only, the notes you see.” Other side said. “Improvise!” Changed notes, as it pleased me. Was a time, the proper side, would anger, at mistakes. “Correctness!” My brain would shout out, at errors, I would make. The other side, would argue. Must look, beyond all that. What you have done, is so unique. Do not, overreact. Yet, proper side, also right. Slow down, clean, and edit. Creative ideas, benefit, from a little, polish. Most of my life, both sides battled. A war, neither could win. So in the end, they compromised. Today, they’re mostly friends. Each side, allows other side. To take the lead, at times. Neither side, will control for long. Balanced, rhythm and rhyme. Learn to accept, some good things, will be, less than perfect. I’m not upset, because of this. Just take time, to reflect. Some of my best work…creative. That work, was mostly fun. Achieved, some great things, using rules. Take pride, in all I’ve done. 20
Criticism July 10, 2018 “Criticism.” A tough word. Sometimes, it’s not welcome. You don’t want to hear, “must improve.” Or alter, things you’ve done. If you’re told, you’ve made mistakes. Or adjustments, wanted. Don’t dismiss, or simply ignore. Changes, might be needed. Such suggestions, may be seeds. So give, some time to grow. They might be good. Or maybe not. Eventually, you’ll know. Don’t close your mind, or your heart. That limits, your success. Friend’s advice. Colleague’s expertise. Can be, vital assets. You should have faith, in yourself. Believe, in what you do. But consider, what others say. To ideas, that are new. Sticking with your plan, might work. Your critics, could be wrong. But staying, open to changes. Will also show, you’re strong. Criticism, has value. To know, how others feel. In reaching all, your goals and dreams. It is, part of the deal. Advice, can be a signpost. When you’ve, gotten off track. But beware. Not all advice is good. Bad advice, sets you back. Criticism. Judge with care. It could be, constructive. But some suggestions, are worthless. Harmful, and destructive. Important, to weigh options. Consider, what’s been said. Do your best, to make good judgments. Be bold, but use your head. Faith and courage. Hand in hand. Experience. Wisdom. Should also, take into account “where” advice does come from. Trust yourself. Listen as well. Don’t go through life, afraid. Value critics, who’ve served you well. Contributions, they’ve, made.

Dream January 18, 2016 We’re never too old, to dream. Imagination, fuels. Take time each day. Dream a little. Make that, a daily rule. As children, we dreamed often. Caught up, in all our thoughts. Those childhood dreams, still live in us. But sometimes, they get lost. As adults, might set aside, childhood aspirations. In the process, disconnect with, deepest inspirations. Now? Responsibilities. With age, duties grow more. We work through problems. Frustrations. Grind away. Daily chores. Accepting, our “adult role.” It’s what, we try to do. Realizing, we’re the “grown-ups.” Tough times, we must see through. Work hard. Be dedicated. Stay focused, on our tasks. But if hard work, is all we do. Inside, deep feelings masked. Get stuck, on our life ladder. Same day. Just different date. Constantly, seek motivation. May feel, trapped in a fate. How, can you improve your life? Find, what you sense is gone? Visit your heart. Looking inside. Discover, what’s gone wrong. We can comply, and conform. With adult, goals and rules. Without, being entirely shaped. By cookie-cutter, tools. There is, a little genius. Inside, each one of us. Tap into, imagination. That internal voice, trust. Every plan. Every big change. Began, as just a thought. From someone’s, imagination. A new idea, was caught. Create. Inspire. And dream big. Expand, the life you live. Don’t be afraid. Explore the world. Share dreams. To others give. Strive to link, your goals with dreams. Revisit, childhood mind. Embrace hard work. But use your dreams. Then peace-of-mind, you’ll find. 22
Engage, Endure, and Evolve January 15, 2017 Who are you? Who will you be? From childhood, to the end. The answers, found in what you do. By “doing,” you’ll ascend. It all begins, with action. The world, you must engage. In simple ways. With complex tasks. When day is done, turn page. Engage, both mind and body. And exercise, your soul. The more you do. The more you’ll be. And better. Truth be told. Life will challenge. Twists and turns. We all, have daily trials. Commit each day. To see it through. And find, reasons to smile. There’ll be battles, in your mind. Confused. Hurt. Rough day. Body and spirit, may grow tired. You’ll want, to walk away. Endure. Be steadfast. Head high. Stretch yourself, as need be. Determination. Show resolve. Perseverance, is key. You can become, many things. If you just, raise your bar. But as you progress, do retain, the core, of who you are. Two goals should be: to evolve, and to yourself, be true. You can do both. Throughout your life. Embracing, old and new. There are moments, you must rest. And disengage, the mind. Take care of health. Take time to love. A balance, you can find. Sustain inside, your beliefs. Commit to action, too. In the final, analysis. You’re known, by what you do. Engage. Endure. Set high goals. Fear not, your obstacles. Evolve into, who you can be. Be your own miracle.

Find, Keep, and Grow August 22, 2015 The quality, of your life. It's mostly, up to you. But others, that you encounter. Can influence you, too. Some people, are in your life, who you, don't get to choose. Those, you “invite,” into your world? Decision, made by you. You, can bring in good people, who help, improve your life. You can also make, poor choices. That bring you, grief and strife. Friendship. Relationship. Marriage. Depends, on what you do. Recruit, retain, and refine. These words, can guide you through. Find people, who inspire you. And those, who’ll care for you. Look, for both strength and character. With hearts, that can be true. Yet even if, you choose well. Make good friends, warm and bright. You must commit, to do your part, to keep, those you invite. You can retain, good people. By giving of yourself. If you don’t try, to do your part, you'll get, put on the shelf. Accept, that life and people, will evolve, over time. To keep those, who are key to you. Your partnerships, refine. You must watch, and then adapt. There’s always, something new. Do keep in mind, how others grow. Their growth, may help guide you. If you run a company, department, or a school. Recruit, retain, and then refine. The same, process and tools. It's all about, the people. Recruit, as best you can. Make your organization strong. Bring in, the best at hand. But if you want, to stay strong. And rise, up to the top. Don't forget, retain and refine. Or in the end, you'll flop. Just look at who, is in your world. Want things, to get better? Find, keep, and grow with good people. With them, climb the ladder. 24
Focus August 29, 2015 I did, many things today. Some were, done very well. Just how successful, was my day? Not sure. It’s hard to tell. This modern world, comes at you. From many, different sides. It's more than people, face to face. From digital, can't hide. Computers. Tablets. Smartphones. They multiply, our tasks. Seems everyone, wants everything. With no time, to relax. Must multitask, to survive. At least, that's how it seems. Has this juggling, become your goal? Becoming, a bad dream? Here are thoughts, you should ponder. When your long day, is done. "I checked-off, very many things. But what, did I get done?" "All I did, was a checklist." Then maybe, you’re off track. "Did I work, on critical goals?" Yourself, you need to ask. If all you did, was lots of stuff, maybe, you're conflicted. This fast-paced world, has misled you. To checklists, addicted. Quantity, and quality. Must balance, through each day. How many things? How well achieved? The game, that you must play. Perhaps, you need to slow down. In order, to speed up. This may sound odd, to you because, work overflows, your cup. The art, of being focused, on one thing, at a time. Can help you conquer, busy days. Won't feel, in such a bind. This doesn't mean, lighter load. There's much to do, each day. It does mean, do important things, in very focused ways. Compartmentalize, your chores, as they, come flooding in. Prioritize as well, so that, you know, where to begin. Zero in. Priorities. Give them, quality time. Whether hours, or just minutes. Focus, your complete mind. 25
You can, address the checklist, between, your focused work. When checklists grow, don’t lose you way. From “main work,” do not shirk. If you can sort, then focus, on most important tasks. Success, and satisfaction too, will be, within your grasp. Quantity, and quality. You must do some, of both. That way, achieve all that you should. "A good day!" You can boast.

Forgive May 23, 2016 Forgiveness, is a blessing. Helps us, in many ways. Let go of things. Make a fresh start. A new foundation, laid. Holding on, to our anger. Internal, cuss and fuss. Creates, emotional acid. It eats away, at us. This does feed, unhappiness. Distracts us, from our life. Become, a smaller person too. It taints and clouds, our sight. Know, we should make amends. But grudges, often hold. Forgiving, can be difficult. Feelings, remaining cold. We are less, when we resist. The chance, to wipe things clean. We are more, when we take this step. A sense of peace, it brings. Most times, our quarrels are small. More, an aggravation. Quick words. Selfish actions. Passion. Irritates, relations. It may only take, a short while. To cool. Make things, better. Be strong. Be the first, to reach out. Try to resolve, matters. At times, a grievance is large. Perhaps, intentional. The pain is deep, and enduring. Hard, to be rational. Justice, may come into play. Often, price must be paid. But even then, find forgiveness. Or bitter, you will stay. The people, we encounter. Not perfect. That is known. But neither are we. That’s the truth. Show strength, by mercy shown. Some, forgive others quickly. But themselves, can’t forgive. When they’re at fault, punish themselves. So with great pain, they live. Yet deep inside, they do know. None of us, are perfect. Yet even so, rather than forgive. Worse, they often make it. You will never, be at peace. Unless, you will forgive. Others. Yourself. Imperfect world. Move on. Do better. Live. 27
Forward June 21, 2018 Life, is unpredictable. Challenges, each day brings. Must deal, with the unexpected. Small and large, happenings. Your goals, suddenly blurry. Objectives, get obscured. As world imposes, things on you. Makes you feel, insecure. It’s important, at these moments, to not, just give up hope. Adjust. Adapt. Do what you must. To keep your boat, afloat. The worst outcome? Giving up. Mentally, paralyzed. You must carry on, come what may. For dreams, to stay alive. Action, is the medicine. That helps us, to get through. Don’t abandon, your heart’s desire. To yourself, remain true. You may, have to compromise. Do tasks, that you don’t like. Or spend time, learning new approach. Or keep, your mouth shut tight. Work through, the unexpected. From all this, you can gain. These challenges, make us stronger. Learn how, to deal with pain. The key, is understanding: the world, you don’t control. That does not mean, you cannot win. Good outcomes, you can mold. Don’t just sit there. Do something. Baby steps. Or giant leaps. Might have to pause, and think as well. What does, this moment teach? Learn, from these circumstances. So you’ll, be more prepared To deal with what, is thrown at you. For life’s, not always fair. Things, may turn around quickly. It also, might take years. “When it rains, it pours.” Cope with it. Don’t surrender, to fears. Be not bitter, or depressed. That just, is not the way. Expect to face, the world’s demands. Move forward, come what may.

Goals January 5, 2016 Goal setting, does have value. Adds purpose, to your day. Each goal, can be a steppingstone. That helps, to guide your way. Good goals, will keep you focused. Important, not to drift. Short-term. Long-term. They motivate. Can give spirits, a lift. But do beware, of bad goals. These may, lead you astray. They’ll waste your time. Damage your life. Poison, and ruin days. Best goals, come from within us. Some good ones, from without. How can you tell, the good from bad? There just might be, some doubt. Mentally weigh, pros and cons. First, looking within you. Instinct. Feelings. Insight. Courage. Then outside advice, too. Selecting goals. A process. But you alone, decide. Are they truly worthy? The right ones? Do they fit, in your life? Biggest part, of goal setting: Who do you want, to be? Once you know that. The fog will lift. A pathway, you will see. Each person, is different. One size, does not fit all. Yet, some good group-goals, can be shared. Together, standing tall. But most goals, are personal. To yourself, must be true. For happiness, and fulfillment. Must do, what’s right for you. Some goals, accomplished “quickly.” Others, will take “longer.” “When,” goals achieved? Not the key thing. “Journey,” makes you stronger. No one, can do this for you. Must do it, on your own. Others can help, in many ways. Decision, yours alone. Just who, do you want to be. Set goals, that get you there. Make good judgements. And accept help. Stay strong. Be who you dare.

Hate March 20, 2016 Hate does exist, in our world. In more, than just one place. I don’t believe, it will prevail. But cannot, be erased. It is, a powerful word. Should not, take it lightly. Not to be confused, with passion. Which burns, just as brightly. Passion, can lead us forward. It helps us, scale great heights. Hatred, leads to self-destruction. Pitch black. Eternal nights. The word “hate,” is often used. When we dislike, something. But hatred, is not disliking. Hate’s sinister. Crushing. Violent acts, and hatred. Often, go hand in hand. Yet violence, also happens. Even, when justice stands. No, hatred’s very unique. Powerful, emotion. It overrules, logic and love. Fatal. Poison potion. Each of us, has the power. To keep hatred, at bay. Despite our anger, and our fears. On high road, we can stay. Even, when facing evil. We can, avoid hate’s call. Enter battle. Do what we must. Respond, yet not turn small. The world in which, we do live. Does contain, love and hate. With each of us, making the choice. We’re not trapped, by a fate. Understand. You’ll face hatred. At times, during your life. Be strong. Find courage within you. Don’t be afraid. Do right. Justice, is what you’re seeking. Revenge, just makes things worse. Revenge, perpetuates the hate. Multiplies, that dark force. Use passion. It’s a good thing. Don’t be afraid, to fight. But if you succumb, to hatred. You can’t embrace, “the light.” Don’t let hatred, capture you. Even, in darkest times. Do what you must. Protect your ground. Without, crossing that line. 30
Improve September 17, 2017 We strive, to improve our lives. But this, is not easy. There are no short cuts, to success. Most days, won’t be breezy. We want to change, way things are, to be, how we want them. Yet, we don’t want to change ourselves. Improvement, starts within. We must first, improve ourselves. Hard truth, we discover. The only path, to better life. Inside. Not in others. Must grow, learn, and carry on. No matter, how we feel. It does take work, and time and trials. With many things, must deal. We often, take steps forward, with tough times, we endure. Getting better, can be painful. Of that, we can be sure. Those long days, often happen. Our mind and body, sore. But this, is how things really work. “Do your job,” then give more. Others, make demands and such. World, tries to measure you. But the key, to make things better? “To thine own self, be true.” Progress, is not always clear. Does not, happen that way. But look inside. Did you improve? That’s how, you “win each day.” Circumstances, push and pull. Challenges, all days bring. Keep our focus, on who we are. Knowing, it’s the main thing. For the long-term gains, we seek. Must travel, many miles. But small gains made, inside ourselves. Can daily, make us smile. We’ll get better, over time. If each day, we will stretch. Reach further, higher, and forward. That gold ring, we can catch. We will, elevate our lives. When first, we look inside. Take on ourselves…before the world. From that fact, we can’t hide.

Issues July 26, 2015 Our lives, are filled with issues. Some large. And many small. The way we sort, and manage these. Defines, our rise and fall. There's no easy path, through life. The world, is not that way. It is part joy, and tragedy. Challenges, every day. To wish, life free of worry. Is not, what you should do. Instead, embrace the uphill climb. Confront it. See things through. Most issues, aren’t big problems. They are, just steppingstones. May take you down, unpleasant paths. But there's no need, to moan. For tackling, daily issues, does help, to make us strong. Don't use issues, as excuses. That surely, would be wrong. The strength, gained from small efforts, will later save the day. There will be, serious problems, emerging, on your way. The measure, of your success? It's not, just what you do. A part, of great achievement is: what life, does throw at you. Some things, you will encounter, they really, are not fair. Maybe ugly, and painful too. And might seem, no one cares. We all face, life’s unfairness. Just keep going, unfazed. Can fight for change, yet still comply. Work through, your daily maze. Giving up, will not fix things. Move forward, come what may. Battle that, which you know is wrong. But do it, the right way. Embrace, your daily issues. Without, hesitation. That sends, a consistent message. Shows, determination. This approach, will help you to, cut big things, down to size. Builds confidence, and outlook too. Will help you win, and rise. Remain strong, take on each day. Stay focused, through it all. So at the end, of day AND life. With pride, you can stand tall. 32
Life May 10, 2018 In many ways, we do conform. Controlled, by ticking clock. Address, responsibilities. Towards goals, we will walk. While there’s some good, in all that. We must not, get confused. For “time,” is but a man-made tool. Just something, that we use. Bear in mind, “time” is not “life.” To think so, we’d be fools. Life is a gift. Special jewel. It’s not, a set of rules. Our lives, are what we make them. They’re not, just chunks of time. Calendars, and endless deadlines? That’s not, how we’re defined. What often, does elude us, as we strive, in careers. Life’s not, just what we accomplish. Or how, we face our fears. A full, rich life, only comes. To those, who make it so. Life’s not trophies, or bank accounts. Life’s where, our feelings flow. We must make time, for our dreams. Find things, that make us smile. Embrace love, peace, and solitude. Listen, to inner child. Now and then, treat yourself. Something, you want to do. Have some fun. Be bold. Take a chance. Go out. Try something new. And learn, how to be quiet. Turn off, that pesky phone. Seek a view, that is breathtaking. Don’t be afraid, to roam. Share your life, with those you love. Away from duties, tasks. Be yourself. Be happy. And rest. That’s not, too much to ask. The duties, expectations? Long list, of daily chores? Do strive, to be industrious. But your life? Don’t ignore! You must take care, of yourself. It’s really, up to you. Seek balance, purpose, and meaning. In everything, you do.

Listen June 18, 2015 Met her, many years ago. Serving, in the Army. She was a leader, through and through. The best, I’d ever see. A battalion commander. Elite unit, she led. I was, a junior officer. In, way over my head. I was wet, behind the ears. She, was a long-time vet. A West Point grad. A colonel too. Did she scare me? You bet. I served, as her adjutant. Just, a glorified clerk. And as a member, of her staff. From dawn to dusk, I worked. She was tough, and questioning. Each day, she pushed us on. Each officer, in her command, was tired, when day was done. Early morning, staff meetings. Like going, to a school. We learned a lot, each day from her. These meetings, she would rule. All staff members, outranked me. Most served, in Vietnam. But so much, did they respect her. She always, seemed so calm. Greatest lesson, she taught me. A trait, strong leaders need. A top commander, should listen, to those, that they would lead. Absorbed this process, from her. I learned, the lesson well. Allow for all, to state their views. Our ideas, we would sell. There was debate, and conflict. She let each make, their case. But when she’d heard, all points of view. She’d look us, in the face. Had the skill, to summarize, the main points, that we made. Then, she would issue orders clear. Attention, we would pay. Thought this was a game, at first. Were we, just patronized? But as I watched her, over time. Not so, I realized. Her mind, was nimble and sharp. She gained, by listening. Sorted ideas. Could change her mind. While we, were presenting. 34
She was strong. Had her beliefs. Yet flexible, in thought. Was like a sponge. Listened so well. This method, I was taught. I always, followed orders. But learned, to speak up too. Present my view. Express myself. Then do, what told to do. Great leaders, are assertive. Command, with orders clear. But listening, to those below. Is done, without a fear. By-product, of listening. Somehow, we all felt freed. For we knew, that we would be heard. As cases, we would plead. Sometimes, she made us angry. But for her, we would fight. At least we felt, we’d had our say. Even when, we weren’t right. My military, service. So many years, gone by. But every day, since then I’ve found, her lesson, still applies. Listen, with an open mind. When you, are in the lead. Perhaps, you will not change your mind. But still, you’ll meet a need. For those, who serve below you. Might see things, differently. Take time. Listen, to what they said. Then decide, carefully. Leaders, must make decisions. With which, not all agree. But when leaders, listen first. The stronger, all will be.

Love March 20, 2016 Love, can be complicated. And very simple, too. Comes in many, sizes and forms. Brings joy, or makes you blue. Throughout our lives, encounter. Love’s diverse, mysteries. Hits us hard. Like a thunder bolt. Grows slowly. Like a seed. It can be deep. Or shallow. Sometimes, it’s just caring. Attraction. Infatuation. Often temporary. Comes and goes, like a drifter. Or endures, for all time. Expands you heart. Can break it too. Completes you. Opens mind. Love, can dissolve. Or explode. Flame out, remarkably. Or linger, beneath the surface. Reappear, suddenly. Red hot passion, consumes you. Can think, of nothing else. Or warm, peaceful, and comforting. Bonded, to inner self. Yes, love can be one-sided. Your feelings, not returned. Lifetime, of longing, felt within. An itch. An ache. A burn. When love’s returned. Fulfilling. A very, special gift. Does often, stabilize our lives. Makes steady, rocking ship. Can connect, in many ways. A person, place, or thing. Love is seen, through our own prisms. Whatever, makes heart sing. Very best thing, about love? Is that, it does exist. Illusive perhaps. Hard to keep. Effort, we must invest. Seek and keep, throughout our lives. Work through, our doubts and pain. The pursuit itself, is worthwhile. In that, so much we gain. Enjoy pleasure, love brings us. Accept the hurt, at times. Feel the passion, and happiness. In these, ourselves, we’ll find.

Opinion January 26, 2016 We all, seek affirmation. Of the beliefs, we hold. We’re drawn, to same-minded people. Strong statements, that are bold. Tend, to turn away others. Who don't see things, our way. All of this, is very normal. Was same, in bygone days. But some things, now, are different. Modern world, amplifies. Internet. Social media. Opinions, multiplied. Twenty-four-hour, broadcasts. TV. Talk radio. Opinions. Just because it's said...that does not, make it so. No matter what, you believe. Someone, will sing same song. That does not mean, that you are right. Does not mean, you are wrong. Life's complex. Keep open mind. That is, what each should do. While it’s good, to have firm beliefs. Stay open. Listen too. What you hear, just might be true. But not so, all the time. Half-truths. Distortions. Sometimes lies. Can creep, into our minds. Not everyone, is honest. At least, not all the time. Hidden agenda. Selfish gain. Sometimes, that's what we find. We all, should be like judges. As in, a court of law Have our beliefs. But still be fair. Understand, world is flawed. Much of what, we hear and read. Is crafted, for our ears. So as we form, our opinions. Use wisdom, more than fears. Media. Press releases. Tweets and speeches, scary. Sources, help us stay informed...but... like a judge, be wary. Listen, to each point of view. Witness, testimony. Lawyer argues, for just one side. Truth told? Some parts phony? You do have, the final say. On that, which you believe. But do not rush. Consider all. Better person, you’ll be. 37
Overcome January 27, 2016 I always look, for the good. Magic, each day can bring. But I have been, around a while. I’ve seen, terrible things. Yes, in war. Also, in peace. Bad things, have no season. Friend and foe. Causing hurt and pain. Mysterious, reasons. Our world, is not just rainbows. We get fierce heat, and storms. Some people, are cruel and heartless. Far from, fuzzy and warm. So we create, rules and laws. You know, the reasons why. But despite, all of our efforts. Some never, will comply. Our world, is often violent. Will not, always be safe. Mother Nature’s, dangerous too. Remorse? Without a trace. The human race. Like the world. Not easy, to predict. Primal and tribal, emotions. We often, claw and kick. There’s been, much human effort. Unite. Be more civil. Despite all, that we’ve learned and gained. Still encounter, evil. Yes, there has been, some progress. We continue, to try. Attempt to love, and understand. And when we fail, still cry. We’ve learned to care. And stay tough. A curious process. Protect. Defend. Attack. And love. Sometimes more. Sometimes less. Even with what, we’ve been through. Most aren’t, filled with malice. Many of us, seek peace on earth. Respectful, and balanced. Do what we can. Improve life. But prepare, for the worst. Cycle of history, does repeat. Destruction, and rebirth. I remain, optimistic. A very, human trait. Start each day. Sense of hope. Believe. That it is not, too late. To conquer, our human flaws. Do those things, that we should. Find a way. Overcome ourselves. Suppress the bad. Do good. 38
Pain Sept 25, 2015 The pain, came again today. It's not, a friend of mine. It's more, of an old acquaintance. That visits, time to time. The pain arrives. Different ways. The body, soul, and mind. Most times, I greet it silently. Sometimes, I groan or whine. Old cliché: "No pain. No gain." That's not, completely true. At times, the pain can make you strong. But good works, do that too. Pain is rarely, what you want. But, it does come to all. It is a part, of life’s journey. In big ways, and in small. At times, we’re the cause of it. Mistakes, that we have made. Sometimes we hurt, for those we love. Love's special price, is paid. Can be sickness, or disease. Physical, or mental. A broken heart, or one-way love. Losses. Hard and gentle. Injuries, and accidents. Both bruised, and broken things. Could be, it's just that we get old. Those aches and strains, age brings. The quality, of our lives. Outcome, of joy and pain. The harvest, of our lifelong work. Needs, both sunshine and rain. Might think, there's been too much pain, in victories you've won? Yet, what you overcome in life, might mean more, than what's done. Some great achievers, in life. Don't have, that much to show. Great pain, they endure. No trophies. Yet rise above, their woe. The measure, of each person? Is not, about the pain. It's more about, how we react. No two lives, are the same. The cards, are dealt randomly. We play the cards, we get. We receive blessings. And some pain. No one, wins every bet. No matter how much you hurt. Someone, is hurting more. When pain arrives, it's not just you. Endure. Recover. Soar. 39
Passion March 17, 2018 Passion, is a two-edged blade. Does come, with a warning. Can be fuel, for achievement. Or cause, for our failings. Passion, has a strong impact. Powerful fire, within. Motivates. Inspires. Sustains us. Beyond fear, we transcend. Only a fool, ignores it. A part, of who we are. In many ways, enriches life. A drive, pushing us far. Without it, live in despair. No hope. No love. No dream. Passion lifts us, from daily grind. Turns plain milk, to sweet cream. Mankind’s, greatest achievements. Blossom, from our passions. Without it, just where would we be? Lost, with no direction. From birth, to your departing, let passion, be with you. Dream big. Work hard. Passion’s the key, to great things, you can do. Yet, there can be a dark side. At times, we must not trust. When passion, grows out of control, over cliff, it drives us. Passions, can overwhelm us. Can cloud, impair thinking. Poor decisions, and bad outcomes. Problems. Our own making. Just like, nuclear fission. Power, it generates. So long as kept, under control. The benefits, are great. Without, control and judgement, disasters, will happen. If our passions, have no restraints, downward, our fate will spin. Secret, is in balance. Formula, for success. Passion. Control. Both, essential. For us, to be our best. Embrace your passions, each day. Be thankful, they exist. But use judgement, control, wisdom. From excess, do resist. Your passion, is a racehorse. Must give it rein, to run. But you’re the jockey. Be in charge. For victory, to come. 40
Perfect September 6, 2015 You’re not, a perfect person. Was never, meant to be. Perfection, and mistake-free life. Are things, you will not see. The world’s, not a perfect place. It is flawed, just like you. So, don’t be angry, all the time. Be stable. See things through. The world, and people in it. Don’t have to work, with you. Both your opponents, and allies. Surprise, with what they do. Your intentions, may be pure. But you, are still human. Most battles, are inside of you. Fighting, your own demons. You cannot, control the world. But control yourself? You can. Measure your life, on what you do. Not, what others demand. You have, an internal force. A power. Strong and true. You have control, of what you do. But not, those around you. Set high goals, and then pursue. Your flaws, are no excuse. “Perfect,” is only a concept. Don’t let it, be a noose. Won’t succeed, at everything. But you, must always try. A perfect day, may never come. But you, can still fly high. Each day, there will be mistakes. At least, that’s how it’ll seem. But some mistakes, are blessings too. Can make you, tough and lean. Do grow and learn, from errors. Don’t live life, on a shelf. Don’t set low goals, or hide away. Don’t give up, on yourself. Do strive, to work with others. With people, all around. Imperfect you. Imperfect world. But you and it, are bound. If you help, those around you. You’ll elevate, your life. But don’t ignore yourself, either. Allow yourself, some spice. Gain balanced, satisfaction. Help others, and yourself. Perfection, is not what you need. You need, good mental health. 41
Embrace your life. Imperfect. With failures, and success. Don’t let “perfection,” drive you nuts. Relax. Give soul a rest. Do strive, for great achievement…but just, for what it’s worth. Perfection? And immortal life? Don’t exist, on this earth. You will die. That is known. But you, may still exist. The mysteries, of universe? Won’t even, try to list. So don’t, expect perfection. Nor to be, immortal. Do all you can, upon this earth. Make good works, your portal.

Persevere September 20, 2015 We have been told this, often. “When life, does knock you down... Just get up, and dust yourself off. Prepare, for the next round.” It sounds, so very simple. Not always, how it works. Getting up, might not be easy. Some “knock-downs,” really hurt. Often, stumbles aren’t that bad. Recovery, is quick. As we grow-up, we toughen up. We learn, to take a lick. We rebound, from the small things. Won’t pout, or make a fuss. Get to work, and get back on track. Happens, to all of us. This is true, most of the time, for simple, little things. But some issues, are not so small. Big blows, life also brings. A huge fall? May take a while. Rise slow. Not in a day. Enormous problems, can punch hard. The hurt, just wants to stay. Even when, we have risen. And say, that we’re OK. A painfulness, will still linger. A bigger price, we pay. Now and then…face a crisis. Testing us, to the max. Personal. Family. Career. Just how, will we react? The world, might do this to us. For life’s, not always fair. But it can be, our own fault too. Mistakes, that we must bear. Perhaps blame, belongs elsewhere. Or it might, seem that way. The bottom line. We have fallen hard. A price, life makes all pay. If you are blessed, with loved ones. Comfort and love, transcend. Express your thanks, as best you can. And do the same, for them. Recovery? What to do? Your best, is what you give. Acknowledging, it’s up to you. To hard times, don’t give in. It’s step by step. Day by day. When you’ve, been deeply hurt. Others, may help as best they can. Still you, must do the work. 43
Praise September 1, 2018 Our lives are busy, complex. We rush, from task to task. Don’t take the time, to praise others. Often, our feelings, mask. We might think, about a comment. A compliment, to send. But then, we just don’t open up. Or share, the thought within. For some, it is really hard, to offer others, praise. Might hesitate, rationalize. Or put it off, for days. It really is, so simple. To share, a compliment. There is no cost. Takes little time. In person, or note sent. The good we do, from all this. Can’t, be truly measured. You’ll rarely know, how much it means. Nor the way, it’s treasured. Don’t take for granted, small things. That people, often do. Or go through life, so self-centered. Focused, only on you. I do agree, big compliments. Should come, only when earned. But a simple “thank you,” valued. And by, so many, yearned. Jealousy, can make us blind. And just stand, in the way. Of recognizing, achievements. Or blocking out, all praise. The good, that’s done around you. Does not, diminish you. Don’t let envy, control your thoughts. Or deny, what is true. Compliment first. Then move on. Improving yourself, too. Elevate your image, praising. Become, a better you. Can increase, your own value. Recognizing, others. For when you lift, those around you, you’ll end up, standing taller. No need, for big flourishes. Or, for blaring fanfares. The best praise, is given eye to eye. Do it often. Show you care.

Pressure April 11, 2018 Pressure, can be good or bad. External, or within. It can motivate, or impede. Be enemy, or friend. Expectations, lead us. Give, sense of direction. But, if they’re unrealistic…erode, motivation. Pressure, can help us to stretch. Move out, of comfort zones. Become better, stronger, tougher. Our best self, then we’re shown. Painful, if it breaks us, or makes us, give up hope. It hurts, when it imprisons us. Tangled, in mental ropes. Must not abuse, the power, that pressure, does contain. Don’t lose focus, on core values. From anger, do refrain. Pressure can work, very well. When properly, applied. “How much” and “when,” are pivotal, to maximize, our stride. Pressure, should be uplifting. A staircase, to success. Just the right amount, of pressure. Will drive us, to the crest. And pressure, can unify. Achieve, a common goal. Build sense, of strong community. Give each of us, a role. Do not seek, pressure-free life. We must be pushed, at times. Unless we set goals, high standards. Fulfillment, we won’t find. But keep it, in perspective. Pressure, is just a tool. Use it well, you’ll make your life…a diamond. Precious jewel.

Process April 24, 2016 To have, what you need in life. Does involve, a process. Often, a very long journey. Mostly work. Frequent tests. You might say, you “want” something. But is that, really true? Your actions, will reveal much more. Than words, could ever do. Specific steps, you must take. To have, what you desire. A path, with markers and guideposts. Places to rest, when tired. There are four signs, you will find. Along, this winding way. “Want, Be, Do, and Grow.” Components, of the process, each day. First focus, on what you “want.” For life, to work out right. Don’t let others, define your dreams. Keep what you want, in sight. Self-motivation, drives you. Target, what you desire. If you truly know, what you want, inside, there’ll be fire. Then “be” what’s necessary, to move, towards your goal. Be strong. Be steady. Diligent. Be patient. At times, bold. You must become, a person. Who can survive, life’s trials. Be willing, to face challenges. To walk, the toughest miles. Next guidepost, you encounter. Tells you, that you must “do.” Wanting. Being. Initial steps. But “doing,” required too. Do your job. And do it well. Don’t try, to cut corners. Do all you should. And then do more. Do, what really matters. “Grow” is what the next sign says. Must seek ways, to improve. For wanting, being, and doing; still leaves you much, to prove. Grow, as a professional. And grow, as a person. Then grow your reputation, too. Use compassion. Reason. Impatient? Overcome it. Trust signs, along the way. Listen to those, who’ve gone before. The wisdom, from their days. 46
Rest May 21, 2015 Many, goals and objectives. Exist, inside our minds. They drive, inspire, define our days. Absorb, most of our time. But this, can be a problem. If goals, too controlling. They can push you, across a line. Life becomes, too grinding. Over time, what I have learned. Must pace, while being bold. To have, some consistent success. YOU must, be in control. Sustained Success? I suggest. Sometimes, do more with less. For when your mind’s, too tangled up. It may be time, to “rest.” I struggled with this concept. For oh, so many years. The work ethic, engrained in me. When easing up, felt fear. Often, running in circles. Was just not, at my best. Of course, the missing link I found. That I needed, to “rest.” My friends worried, and lectured. As I worked, day and night. Told me, that “rest,” was needed. Find peace, in moments light. They said, just take an hour. To get my head, all straight. Even, fifteen minutes away. Difference, it would make. Admit, that there were times when, my grind went on, for weeks. Deadlines and pressure, driving me, to lose faith, become weak. Expectations, can be good. From outside, and within. Too many tasks? Spirit might break. Instead, of “give and bend.” There does arrive, a moment. When work, defeats your cause. Finally learned, there was a point. When I’d, just have to pause. A day away. Really helped. When too much, worried me. It helped to heal, my troubled heart. Solutions. Then could see. At night. Put on my headphones. Just listen, to my tunes. At times, would watch the rain fall down. Or just stare at the moon. 47
A good book, was a great way. To ease, my burdens too. A walk, in nature, always helped. Beneath, a sky of blue. Spent time, with the one I loved. Shared thoughts. And shared, a kiss. A movie date. And eat out too. Re-found that special bliss. Each of us, must have a way. To “rest,” our mind and heart. Just know yourself, and do what works. Take time away. Depart. Many, goals and objectives. Exist, inside our minds. These are important, to us all. Yet all of us, do find: You must keep, the right balance. To pass, all of life’s tests. High standards and hard work, are good. But don’t forget, to “rest.”

See-Saw July 30, 2015 Both sides, of my life’s see-saw, must balance, every day. Two questions, do sit opposite. Two answers, light my way. The answers, will define me. The questions, lead me on. Who am I? Who will I become? I ask these, every dawn. Who am I? Consistency. Stability, my key. Traditional, in many ways. You can depend, on me. On that side, of the see-saw, it is clear, who I am. Good habits, routines, and patterns. People know, where I stand. “He is a rock.” People say. “His attitude…steady.” “First to work. Often last to leave. Know, he’s always ready.” That part of me, is just one side. See-saw, must be balanced. The other side, is more complex. Each day, it’s a challenge. Who I am, is established. But who, will I become? What’s the vision, of my future? Direction, I should run? My vision, is very broad. Serious, and mature. Knowing past. Studying present. Finding path, to future. Who I become, involves change. Some new, methods and tasks. I’ll observe others, who succeed. Sometimes, I’ll copy-cat. Always trying, to keep pace. As things, do change so fast. Explore approaches. Innovate. For fresh ideas, I cast. Who I’ll become? Hard to say. It remains, hard to see. To some extent, it does depend. On changes, around me. Who I’ll become? It will shift. Adapting, to the world. While seeking balance, through it all. Each day. A precious pearl. That steady side, I possess, essential, part of this. For both sides, must cooperate. Can’t have one side, resist. 49
The see-saw of my life, works. Big challenges, I vault. But even when I fail. It’s clear. The see-saw’s, not at fault. The answers to my questions? Who I’ll be? Who I am? I’m evolving. Yet, consistent. A lion, and a lamb.
