Summer Music Lessons

Members of Place des Arts’ highly qualified music faculty offer in-person and online private lessons during the summer and accept new students at this time. See detailed music teacher bios here. Inquiries regarding a particular instructor’s availability and fees may be made:

Private music lesson fees

Fee levels vary by instructor and begin at $26 per 30-minute lesson. Longer lesson times are also available. A registration fee of $5.00 for booking 1-3 lessons and a $15 fee for booking 4-12 lessons will be applied to summer private lesson registrations. Payment in full is due at the time of registration and is payable by cash, cheque, Interac (only available in-person), Visa, MasterCard, or American Express. No refunds will be given for lessons missed by students.

Summer music lessons withdrawal policy

A student may withdraw from summer private lessons at any time. A withdrawal fee equal to one lesson fee will be charged. Summer Music Teachers

Aouda Yen, Piano and Flute

Aouda holds a Master of Education degree in Arts Education from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Performing Arts from Capilano University. She is a certified educator of Royal Conservatory of Music and a member of the BC Richmond Music Teachers Association. Her teaching philosophy is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for students to explore, learn and grow.

Christina Krystecki, Piano

Christina received a master’s degree in Teaching and Composition from the Academy of Music in Gdansk, Poland. She teaches a variety of styles, from classical to jazz, constantly searching for new ways to nurture her students’ artistic development.

Frank Bond, Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano

Frank has extensive experience as a live performer and has written music for TV, theatre and film. He aims to give his students a well-rounded ability on their instrument, allowing them to enjoy playing in whatever style(s) they choose.

Geeta Das, Woodwinds, Brass

Geeta is a professional musician who has been performing and teaching music around the world for over 20 years. She studied music at Douglas College, the University of British Columbia and privately in New York. She is well-versed in a variety of musical styles and loves to share her knowledge and passion with students.

Genevieve MacKay, Violin, Viola

Genevieve is a working musician who performs regularly and is an avid teacher of the violin/viola. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from the University of British Columbia, where she performed in the Symphony Orchestra and the Early Music Ensemble. Her teaching philosophy is that music is fun and anyone can learn.

Irina Jilina, Piano

Irina is a member of the Piano Teachers

Federation and a Registered member of the RCM and the BC Registered Music Teachers’ Association. Many of her students successfully complete the RCM requirements for practical and theory examination at all levels.

Diploma from the Superior School of Music of the National Centre of the Arts, Mexico City. He has his Associate Diploma from the RCM and Licentiate Diploma from the British Columbia Conservatory of Music.

Kat Gillis, Voice

Kat studied Opera and Vocal Performance at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick and Jazz Performance at Vancouver Island University. She is excited to use her broad range of education and skills to share her passion for singing with students.

Krystal Morrison, Clarinet, Saxophone, Piano

Krystal possesses Masters’ degrees in both Performance and Musicology. An enthusiastic pedagogue, Krystal has taught at music schools throughout Canada. She aims to give students a change to pause, notice their habits, and ask, “is there a different way to approach this?”

Maggie Van Wyk, Piano

Noel McRobbie, Piano

Noel received a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano

Pedagogy and Performance from the University of Michigan and a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory. He has performed as a concerto soloist all over the world and his performances have been broadcast on CBC radio.

Rebecca Blair, Harp

Rebecca earned a master’s degree in Performance and Musicology from the University of Victoria. Rebecca’s approach to playing and teaching the harp draws on her classical background and combines it with her passion for Celtic music. Her teaching philosophy focuses on balancing disciplined technique with improvisation and creativity.

Sarab

Sarab graduated with a Teaching Diploma in Music and earned her Bachelor of Music Education from Al Baath University. Her teaching philosophy is “Believing, Achieving, and Serving.”

As an educator, she feels that it is important to set challenges for herself and strives to be a positive role model for her students.

Isaac Juarez-Flores,

Piano, Theory, Harmony, Music History

Isaac earned a Bachelor of Music from the National University of Mexico and an Artist Piano

Born in South Africa, Maggie studied at the University of the Free-State in Bloemfontein with a degree in piano and music education. Maggie believes her purpose as a music teacher is to unlock and develop every student’s musical talent, enabling them to share the joy of music with others.

Summer Private Dance Lessons

Call to inquire about summer private dance lessons for all ages and skill levels. Fees:

Private lesson (solo): $28.00 per half-hour lesson

Semi-Private lesson (duo): $18.75 per half-hour lesson

Semi-Private lesson (trio): $13.50 per half-hour lesson

Summer Withdrawal Policies

A student may withdraw up to seven (7) days prior to the group class start date. A refund of the class fee will be granted less the non-refundable registration fee.

Summer dance teachers

Ashley Binette

Ashley trained with master teachers in tap, hip hop, jazz, musical theatre and ballet and is a professional dance and musical theatre performer for stage, TV and musical productions. She has over 20 years of experience in the performing arts industry.

Emily Mustard

Emily started her dance career at the age of 6 at Place des Arts. Growing up taking ballet classes with Lucienne Anczykowski as well as jazz and technique classes, she received several awards and scholarships. She then branched out into hip hop and street jazz, which is where she ultimately found her passion.

Lucienne Anczykowski

(Available for Private Lessons)

Lucienne is a certified Ballet teacher (Vaganova/ Russian Method) with professional teaching credentials from the University of Music in Warsaw. She performed with the Maurice Béjart Ballet du XXe Siècle in Belgium.

Boys Can Dance!

6 - 8 years

In this introductory, all-in-one dance class, explore dance styles like ballet, jazz, contemporary and hip hop dance. In a safe and supportive environment, learn the fundamentals of each dance style and have fun doing it. All male-identifying, 6-8 years old students are welcome. Teacher: Emily Mustard

Intro to Ballet

3 - 4 • 5 - 7 years

In this fun ballet class, you will learn the fundamentals of ballet, including proper technique and vocabulary. Dance to classical music from well-known ballets like Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Giselle. Teacher: Emily Mustard

In this introductory, all-in-one dance class, you will explore a variety of dance styles like ballet, jazz, musical theatre and hip hop. Learn fundamentals of each dance style and have fun doing it! Teacher: Ashley Binette

This class focuses on improving and maintaining ballet technique and performance quality. Classes may include some short choreography or a stretch and strengthen component to combine muscular toning with endurance training. Teacher: Lucienne

Parent + Me Dance

2 - 3 years

Explore dance with your child. This class makes movement, music and listening skills interesting and fun. This is a great way for children to develop coordination and social skills through creative play and dance. Teacher: Ashley Binette

Tiny Hip Hop

Get up and dance! Children will be introduced to movement, coordination and musicality by learning a high-energy dance style that will have you jumping, turning and bopping to popular, age-appropriate music. Teacher: Ashley Binette

Keep fit this summer! You’ll work on the fundamentals of ballet, including barre work, across the floor and centre exercises to tone your body. Develop confidence, mental concentration, coordination and grace in a fun environment.

Gain knowledge and confidence in jazz dance! Each class begins with a full-body cardio warm-up focusing on building strength, flexibility, coordination and musicality. Learn some across-the-floor exercises and short choreography to exercise the mind and body. All levels welcome.

Adult Lyrical and Contemporary Dance

18+ years

Lyrical and contemporary dance are expressive forms of dance incorporating jazz, ballet and modern dance elements. There will be focus on technique, turns and jumps, with an emphasis on finding emotion within your movement. Apply your knowledge and technique by learning short choreography. All levels are welcome. Adult Theatrical Dance

18+ years

Learn the fundamentals of dancing and acting in an encouraging environment. You will work on theatrical dance choreography, important terms and etiquette, movement exploration and storytelling. All levels are welcome. Teacher: Ashley Binette
