Solstice Yoga Mala Saturday, June 22
10:00 am - 1:00 pm Welcome summer with the Summer Solstice Yoga Mala event with live music. The event will feature the ancient yoga tradition of completing 108 sun salutations in alignment with the changing season. Come experience yoga outdoors under the backdrop of the Puget Sound, neighboring islands and Olympic Mountains, all while practicing the classic Surya Namaskar series of twelve physical poses linked together by breath. Some yoga experience suggested, but modifications will be shown.

Come out and support your park by joining the Chambers Creek Foundation for a morning on the trails by raising awareness of the Chambers Creek Canyon Trail. The newly certified 5K course will start in the Central Meadow, run west to the railroad tracks, north and then east up the hill to the Playground by the Sound, curving south and then west and down the Switchback trails to the Central Meadow Finish line. Summer Camps
Calling all Explorers!
Join us as we discover the landscapes of Pierce County through exploration, adventure, and creative play. Each day will offer exciting new experiences that will challenge participant’s abilities and help build their skills in sensory awareness, earth stewardship, survival, emergency response, science investigation, and much more. Camps will be limited to the first 15 participants registered per camp and minimum of 10 participants is needed to run each camp.
Counselors In Training Week
Want to learn how to lead and develop skills to help you become a future environmental educator? Our Eco Camp Counselors In Training (CIT) program is the one for you! CIT’s will learn activities, games, strategies for working with younger campers, and even how to use the natural environment for learning. At the end of the week, participants will work together and show what they have learned. All CIT’s will be given the opportunity to volunteer the following week with both Eco Camps and earn (or, to earn) community service credits (or hours)!

Junior Explorers Junior Explorers need to be ready for a week of action-packed, outdoor adventures! Campers will investigate freshwater habitats, explore Bresemann Forest, discover the wonder of watersheds, role-play becoming salmon, and create using upcycled materials. Summer Science SeaCamp hosted by Foss Waterway Seaport and Pierce County Parks & Recreation, offers a chance to explore the worlds of the beach and sea in new ways that bring science to life! We will take beach explorations and conduct science tests on what we find. There will also be boat trips and outings to environmentally diverse sites. Minecraft Medieval Machinations MinecraftEDU is an expansive game that lets players design and create unique worlds with amazing structures. One of the more complicated aspects of MinecraftEDU is Redstone, which is MinecraftEDU’s version of electrical circuitry. This class will introduce students to the many uses of Redstone through a Medieval themed adventure of creation, exploration, and castle besieging, with students making mine cart tracks to help them gather resources, working together to build their kingdom, and designing traps to defend their castle, all with the use of Redstone. DiscNW Ultimate Frisbee Camp Ultimate frisbee is one of the fastest growing sports in the US, a non-contact field sport that combines elements of soccer, basketball, and hockey. This camp is for all experience levels, all genders, ages 8 through 18. Groups will be divided daily based on experience and age in order to best support all players in learning, staying safe, and having a great time.
BRICKS 4 KIDZ: Robotics Build and program real working robots! This exciting Bricks 4 Kidz camp is comprised of different age and skill levels using appropriate LEGO® WeDo 2.0 or Mindstorms EV3 robotics technology. All campers will learn to build and program a new robot every day, incorporating LEGO bricks, motors, sensors, and computer programming. Junior Development - Int/Adv Levels If you already have the skills, here’s how to take them to the next level. For juniors who want to improve their tournament results, this challenging tennis camp program features advanced drills, physical training and match play. Each 5 week camp includes two hours of skills & drills and one hour of match play. Friday is Team Tennis Day. Hot dogs or pizza will be served every Friday. The camp will include skate rental, t-shirt, on-ice skill intruction, off-ice classes,intro to hockey, supervised practice times, broomball, on-ice games & ICE BUMPER CARS! Campers arrive daily to the Alder Room where they will start with off ice warm up before getting ready for a fun on ice experience. Participants should wear socks, tennis shoes, long pants or leggings, and a t-shirt. Bring gloves, a warm jacket or sweatshirt, water bottle and nutritious snack. All sport helmet are recommended.

League Purpose: This is strictly a recreational program to provide an enjoyable, safe and positive experience while learning respect, sportsmanship and the basics of baseball/softball. No try-outs, league championships, and no win-loss records will be kept; everyone plays regardless of ability. Boys and girls play on the same team. Practices: Each team has three practices before the first game. Practices are scheduled weeknights from June 17-27. Games: Teams play 6 or 7 games, weather permitting. Two games scheduled each week (Mon-Thur), July 1-31. Games begin after 5 pm. Equipment: Bats, balls, hitting tees and bases will be supplied. Players should bring their own glove and shoes (athletic shoes or rubber cleats only, no metal cleats). Coaches: Parents interested in coaching may sign-up online or at the Lakewood Community Center. The focus is a safe and positive experience while learning respect, sportsmanship and the basics of outdoor soccer. No league championships and no win-loss records will be kept. Ready for its fifth summer, Camp Pierce summer day camps are designed for young adults ages 20-30 with disabilities.

Celebrating our 48th year in Pierce County, our summer day camp for individuals with disabilities includes: cooperative play, games, arts & crafts, community visitors, sports activities, dress up days, theme weeks, friendships and much more! The program is staffed with school teachers and college students under the supervision of a Special Education Teacher. The activities change daily and are designed to promote sharing, cooperation, friendship, sportsmanship, and fun. Participants receive a camp T-shirt and certificate of participation.

Iyengar Yoga
For the Less Flexible or 50+ In Iyengar yoga, the use of props (blocks, blankets, straps, chairs, etc.) allows you to learn the correct actions of every pose, regardless of flexibility. Instructions are precise. Teachers are rigorously trained to cover basic concepts before progressing to more complex poses. You’ll work on strengthening your body, increasing flexibility and aligning your joints for optimal function. You’ll also work on balance to help prevent falls. In this slow moving class, we’ll mostly practice standing poses, seated poses and twists. You may sit on a chair if you are unable to sit on the floor. Hapkido /Tae Kwon Do Learn self-control, discipline, respect, and economy of motion while learning martial arts. This martial arts class teaches Olympic style Tae Kwon Do as well as Hapkido – an effective art that uses pressure points and joint locks. Adult/Youth Classes Clicker Training for Dogs Have you tried traditional dog training methods without getting the results you want? Perhaps it is time to try something new. This class is taught by A.B.I. certified trainer, Jon Borcherding. It is an introduction to the fun, exciting training method known as “clicker training”. This method is effective on dogs of all sizes and ages. It is especially useful with dogs that are fearful or anxious when confronted with traditional training tools like chain collars, voice corrections, etc.

Youth Classes Sprinker Ballet Classes Class attire: Tights, leotard, ballet slippers, and hair pulled up in a ponytail for girls. Boys may wear black ballet slippers and comfortable clothes they can move in. Ballet shoes can be purchased at Walmart due to better grip on sole of slippers for the tile floor. Please take child to restroom before class begins. Parent Observation: Parents may observe on the first and last day of the session. On the last day of class, there will be an informal performance for each class.
Toddler Movement Ballet This class introduces children to the fun of ballet with basic ballet steps and terminology. Engaging, developmentally appropriate games and activities will keep your child’s attention and build a love of dancing. Whether this is your child’s first dance class or they have participated in this session before, they will build a foundation and love of movement! New dances and songs are taught throughout the session.
Toe, Tap & Tumble This dance and movement class covers basic ballet exercises, tap dancing skills, and gymnastic tumbling. Youth will develop flexibility, balance and total body coordination. Students should wear shorts or leotards, tap or hard-soled shoes and soft ballet slippers.

Ice Skating Classes Learn-To-Skate Program
Registration Information:
As a member of the Ice Sports Industry’s (ISI) Learn To Skate program, our basic skills classes are designed for the recreational skater; with teaching, testing, and award ribbon/patches available for different levels of achievement in basic skills and freestyle. Our program is based on the logical progression of skill development where skills learned in each level are built on skills achieved in the preceding level.
Levels of Instruction include: PreSkate 1, 2, 3 & 4, Beginning 1 & 2, PreAlpha, Alpha 1 & 2, Beta 1 & 2, Gamma 1 & 2, Delta 1 & 2, Beginning Freestyle, Freestyle 1, 2, & 3, and Beginning Freestyle 4.
Beginning skaters should register for Beginning 1 class. Pre-Skate and Beginning skaters are evaluated during the first two weeks and placed in the appropriate class level. At the end of the 7 or 8 week session, skaters will be tested and may earn a ribbon/ patch before advancing to the next level. Pre-Registration is required. There must be at least 6 skaters in order to hold a class, otherwise the class may be canceled or combined with other levels when possible. It is recommended that returning skaters wait to register after their skills test on the last day of class.

Limited Class Space: Class enrollment is limited and determined on a first come first served basis. Enrollment is limited to 12 students per class (9 for PreSkate 1 classes) whenever possible. Similar class levels may be combined to avoid canceling classes with low attendance.
Program Cost: $70.00 (7 wks) $15.00 ISI Membership* The program cost includes admission to the public session (on day of lesson only), skate rental, instructional fee, testing fee, ribbon or patch, and a pass good for two complimentary admissions to any regualr price public skating session.
Skating Attire: All Sport Safety Helmets or Bike Helmets are Highly Encouraged for all PreSkate and Beginning skaters. Skaters should wear gloves and warm layered clothing is recommended for all levels.
*ISI Membership: Required for All Learn To Skate Participants. Membership card or number is required at the time of registration.
As a member of ISI, students receive an ISI membership card, online quarterly magazine, secondary insurance and nationally registered skills tests. Allow 4-6 weeks from session start date for membership benefits to become effective (i.e. secondary medical coverage). As students progress the various levels, they have the opportunity to experience local, district and national competitions available to skaters of all ages, starting with the beginner’s basic Alpha test and ranging upward to the highest tests. These competitions are non-qualifying events. Emphasis is placed on participation and enjoyment. ISI and Sprinker Recreation Center are dedicated to providing quality recreational ice skating programs for the community.
