Dear PCJH Family,
If there is one word that sums up our year as pastors of PCJH, it would be gratitude. Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians reminds us of an important truth: God is continually at work in and through Christ’s body - us! We have so much to be grateful for. We are grateful for the ongoing spiritual growth in people’s lives as they are nurtured through the worship, music ministry, youth ministry, fellowship gatherings, the Discipleship Path, and Sunday morning classes. We give thanks for the incredible partners who stepped in to teach our youngest members God’s Word every Sunday morning. We give thanks for the six new youth confirmands that joined PCJH this spring. We are humbled by the way members have sacrificially blessed others through various missions in our community and around the globe. We stand amazed by the efforts of those working on the housing task force, seeking to discern a viable path for employee housing. We are blessed by a beautiful facility, which continues to serve as a blessing to our community.
As well, we give thanks to our Lord for each staff member whose “labor is promoted by love.” A particular joy was serving alongside Rev. Preston Gordon as our Interim Children’s Coordinator this past year. We thank God for how his ministry enriched us all, as we covet prayers for the ongoing search for that position.
We give thanks for a safe and significant pilgrimage to Turkey where lives were transformed as they walked in the footsteps of Apostle Paul. We look forward to another trip this fall to Greece and Rome. We are grateful for Pastor Ben’s National Prayer Covenant Group, a source of support, strength and wisdom. We lift up Pastor Tammy in prayer as she continues to pursue her Doctor of Ministry with the hope of graduating in May 2024. Both of us enter this next year “inspired ›

The worship team in 2023 continued to collaborate with our pastors and musicians to find interesting ways to worship our Lord and Savior. We experimented with changing the order of worship while respecting our traditions and our roots.
As a congregation, we purchased fresh palms for Palm Sunday, and dedicated Easter lilies and new hymnals. We partnered with Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church to host Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services. A Sunrise Easter Service attracted hundreds of people who rode the Gondola, courtesy of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Our collaborations with ACMNP supports worship at JHMR in winter, and in the National Parks in the summer.
In 2023 we learned that Natalia and Eric VanGenderen would be moving to Florida, so we

lost both a dedicated pianist and her vocalist husband. Our pianists have since included the talented Laura Huckin, Heather Reed, and other musicians. We placed a number of advertisements in local Jackson Hole media, seeking additional pianists for this important aspect of the worship experience. We also sought additional technical support for the sanctuary and we are succeeding in increasing the number of volunteers serving in this important capacity.
We reduced the number of Christmas Eve candlelight services from 3 to 2, still in 2 locations—PCJH at 5 pm with nearly 500 attendees and the Teton Village service with 250 attendees. More than fifty poinsettias adorned the sanctuary this past Christmas.
As always, thank you for your faithful participation in worship at PCJH.

The PCJH Congregational Life team experienced many new adventures and activities in 2023! In January, Steve, Connie, and Gannett Swan graciously led the cross country ski group again. They skied hundreds of miles celebrating God in our majestic Jackson Hole and enjoyed delicious meals after these adventures. In February, members of PCJH attended a Valentine’s Day dance at the Center for the Arts! For Easter, we had treats for everyone and many lilies filled the sanctuary in remembrance and celebration of loved ones.
During the spring we had a trivia night, Brad Herman and Megan Walker hosted this enlightening event for over 15 people. In May for Mother’s Day we had sherbert sundaes and celebrated many wonderful memories of the mothers of PCJH. Brian Bultema hosted a lunch at Sidewinders in Wilson for over 20 people during the off season. Our

cooking class by Caroline Cox was a huge hit this spring! There were over 20 people who learned how to make chicken soup, biscuits, and dessert. Moving on to Father’s Day, we had a special treat and it was a beautiful sunny day so many dad’s spent time outside in the afternoon. Diane McGee graciously hosted a tennis clinic for adults and kids during Memorial Day weekend. We also had a lot of laughs and listened to music from Peter Keenan during the Summer BBQ at the beginning of June. To end the year we had a Christmas party in December with hilarious games for the staff, elders, and deacons of the church. The annual greening of the church was a fun time for many church members to discuss their holiday plans and to celebrate the season. We are looking forward to planning more events in 2024 and are welcome to suggestions from our PCJH family!

In 2023, the Children’s Ministry of PCJH sought to embrace this admonition by providing opportunities for children to develop and grow a relationship with Jesus.
In the first half of the year, we continued to explore God’s Big Story during Sunday School. A multi-week online Tech Wise class was offered that examined the ever-increasing presence of technology in family, church, and work. A Parents Night Out was held in February to provide an opportunity for parents to fellowship, while their kids enjoyed a special evening at PCJH. The Spring culminated with Milestone Sunday in which rising kindergarteners and 3rd graders were presented with bibles.
A one-week Vacation Bible Adventure was held the first week of summer break in which ~ 50 kids joined a slew of volunteers from the congregation to explore Mystery Island—Uncovering Truths about our Creator God. At the end of June, we said heartfelt goodbyes to Preston Gordon, our interim CM Coordinator, and his family.
In the Fall, Sunday School relaunched with a barbeque with Youth Ministry. In Sunday School, we focused on stories from the Old Testament along with bible verses and songs designed to help plant God’s word in the hearts of each child. A cadre of faithful volunteers continue to serve each week in a variety of impactful roles (nursery, preschool, K – 5th grader leaders). The calendar year finished with a wonderful Christmas pageant, Love Came Down at Christmas, and a special Christmas program provided by the Little Lambs preschool.

O16 New students invited to Breakfast Club & monthly events
ur “True North’’ Youth Ministries here at PCJH was amazing! This year, the students of breakfast club became a cohesive and dedicated group that continued to choose to spend one morning a week together. Middle and High school students consistently invited friends to join in our church community. They were active in serving the greater Jackson community both individually and as a youth group, reaching out through local mission week, helping with Wednesday community dinners, and cooking dinner for the Good Samaritan Mission regularly.
Students attended church with their families, and/or with friends in worship and youth Sunday school where they would have conversations with Megan and one another to grow deeper in their faith and relationship with God.
The 10-week confirmation class was a highlight of 2023 because the students who participated went all in with their questions, reflections, and participation. They always shared simple yet deep insights that showed

their desire to know God and discover the meaning of faith and the Church.
Through summer camp with YoungLife and small groups and local mission, the students stayed engaged during the summer and enjoyed the more creative and spontaneous activities. During our annual week of local mission in July, there were some incredible high school students who stepped up as student leaders for the middle schoolers during the week. This is an instrumental part of our youth program that helps older participants share and live out their faith in a new way, learning to be even more generous with their time and thoughtful in word and deed as young Christian.
The Youth Ministry at PCJH is thriving because of the active work of the Holy Spirit— past, present, and future.

SCENT is PCJH’s ministry for 20 and 30-somethings. The broad age range provides opportunities for meaningful relationships with fellow “young adults,” or even with someone of a different generation (Gen Z to Millennials). The mission of this ministry has remained consistent; whether a pre-Covid Ascent member, seasonal worker, or newer resident to Jackson, Ascent exists so that 20’s and 30’s in Jackson may find Christian community and that they would grow deeper in relationship with the Lord, no matter what season of life they are in as a young adult or adult.
In 2023, Ascent engaged the congregation in many ways. This ministry started the “Encounter” Storytelling event that so many in the PCJH congregation have been impacted by over the past several years. This year, there were two encounter events in which 12 encouraging life stories of faith were shared.

Young adult (20’s & 30’s) lives touched
Ascent members have plugged into the greater PCJH community by partnering with the congregational life committee for trivia night, volunteering with high school Breakfast Cub, dinner with church members & families, and joining both worship and Ascent committees. Our group of 20’s and 30’s also attends Church regularly and are bold in their invitations of co-workers and friends from other circles to join for community dinner, Ascent Bible study, and Sunday worship.
Our retreat in March was a highlight for many Ascent participants! Hosted by longtime church members, the Taylor Ranch was the perfect place for a weekend to spend time resting, talking, singing, and bonding together. The group cannot wait for the 2024 retreat as a chance for respite, spiritual renewal, and to get to know newer members as well.

In seeking to live into our mission of PCJH, our adult ministries provide a wide range of opportunities for spiritual growth. We desire to be an equipping church, alive to the Gospel and agents of transformation in our community.
One particular highlight happened this fall with the Christian Women’s Speaker Series. PCJH hosted three lunches for women from all over the Jackson community for fellowship and friendship and to hear inspirational messages from different Christian women from Jackson. Mary Kay Turner, Dr. Mary Neal, and Judy Basye encouraged the packed rooms of women in their journey with Jesus Christ. It was a huge success with over 70 women from Jackson attending each lunch. We look forward to hosting more luncheons in 2024!

The PCJH Deacons are ordained people who love to care and support the congregation in acts of compassion and service. Wherever there is a particular need, they step in to help. Their passion is for PCJH to be a loving community of faith eager to show kindness and mercy. Examples of service may include delivering meals to people in need, organizing special projects to help our community, welcoming the visitor, comforting the grieving, and reaching out to the sick and hospitalized.
One new addition this year to the Deacon ministries was the implementation of a monthly prayer opportunity on Sunday mornings. The 4th Sunday of each month, two deacons make themselves available for prayer following the worship service. The hope is that more people will partner with the deacons in this special ministry. It is one more way for us to care for one another in Christ’s name.

This year, we made a special effort for donations to go where there’s a Jackson connection and partner where PCJH’s donations make a game-changing impact. We’re also grateful we’ve been able to give in “such a time as this” (Esther 4:14) to support crises in Ukraine, the Holy Land, and Turkey. he ‘front facing’ Admin Team at PCJH has been an active group in 2023! With many new members this year, annual events happening yearround, and requests and questions of all kinds every day, 2023 required extensive coordination and organization from the Front Office.
Every time a PCJH congregant moves, updates their information, registers for a class or event, or requests information on volunteering opportunities, (and much more), our Front Office team is there to field questions and provide accurate answers. Every time a vendor comes to tune a piano, fix a boiler, or install a security camera, we are there to be sure the job gets done efficiently.
This year, the Front Office team also spent significant time interacting with folks in our community, with over 40 requests for financial assistance this year from community residents, rented our building to many non-profits for meetings and

events, and helped coordinate workshops and events, like the Women’s Speaker Series, that welcomed many folks into the building.
One big challenge in 2023 was to true up our Planning Center database, with over 1,800 profiles, we refined it to just over 1,400 by combing those folks who have moved, are no longer active, or duplicated profiles. We also successfully got folks to update their profiles in Planning Center (i.e. email addresses, phone numbers, mailing addresses, birthdays, etc.) Some of our best moments in 2023 happened only after months of organization, planning and advertising. We participated in the Vacation Bible Adventure (VBA) week, the Annual Rummage Sale, Holy Week and Christmas Eve Candlelight services and more! We are beyond blessed with a team that sees that in every detail, every letter sent, and ever phone call responded, the mission of the Church is being carried out!

PCJH is blessed with a dedicated staff who continue the outreach and work of our church in and for our community.
In 2023, we were not immune to the labor issues in Teton County. Due to the high cost of housing, Little Lambs was understaffed from what we had planned. We can be proud of all of our staff for stepping up, taking on extra and making sure that all of the students received the full experience.
The personnel team continues its oversight of performance reviews, job descriptions, hiring and access to professional, job-related education. We were more directly involved in changes to the PCJH employee manual and evaluating equitable compensation for all of our staff. It has been a blessing to us to see God’s work carried out by our Spirit-filled staff.

› BUILDING OUR FUTURE WITH HOME+STED
In 2023 we made substantial progress on HOME+STED staff housing to be built on the site adjacent to our parking lot, completing initial architecture and engineering and submitting plans for town review. Providing these homes is critical to our ministry of service to our congregation, neighbors and community as housing costs in Jackson Hole are formidable barriers to recruiting and retaining excellent staff. We are blessed to have additional acreage on our campus to create this housing.
Many church members have enthusiastically endorsed HOME+STED with generous early contributions. Among these are significant contributions, allowing us to cover continuing upfront costs of architecture, engineering, governmental processing, legal and other expenses.
We invite you to join us in this important initiative for Building Our Future at PCJH.

Fee-Based Ministries Dinners
Through our budgeting process we have carefully allocated resources across departments to ensure we are funded for the ministry and mission to which God has called us through PCJH.
• We have no debt, a balanced budget, and funding for ongoing and future ministry.
• We have initiated planning for an Employee Housing project, with capitalized costs to date of $288,024. Funding for the project has been from donor restricted gifts, not from the annual budget.
• We started a rainy-day fund seven years ago to ensure that our ministry and mission continues despite unforeseen crises. We have saved $470,923 with a goal of about six months of covered operating expenses.
• Last year we reestablished funding to the roof reserve of $10,000 / year from the annual budget; the current balance is $20,125.

$16,426
$11,515
$382,147 $309,214 $315,190 $291,315 $141,458
• By God’s grace, and yours, our tithes and offerings for 2023 exceeded our operating goal by almost $40,000. Furthermore, our net operating expenses for the year came in slightly under budget. Taken together, we ended the year with a $49,303 operating surplus. Session decided to allocate the surplus as follows: $4,930 to future mission projects, and $44,373 to the buildings and grounds maintenance reserve. Applying the surplus to reserve accounts allows us to reduce the amount we need to raise in offerings the following year.
• Investments in the PCJH Endowment Fund gained 17% in 2023 to a value of $238,304.
• Our goal is to continue to have the financial strength to do whatever ministry the Lord calls us to do in order to see lives being transformed in Jesus Christ.
