/ Pastors Letter Dear PCJH Family, This past year was an exciting year for the Pascal family and the PCJH family as we experienced the sabbatical theme “At Home in the World”. The Pascals visited Ethiopia, Rwanda, Croatia and Greece as they sought to be “at home” together as a family “in the world” to see what God is doing around the globe. They focused on four verbs that encompass what a sabbatical is all about: explore, learn, play, and rest. While the Pascals were away, Pastor Tammy, the PCJH staff, elders, deacons and the rest of the congregation did an outstanding job as they seamlessly continued PCJH’s ministry and mission in addition to welcoming guest speakers from around the world. In 2019 we officially launched our small group ministry with over 50 people who participated. We said a tearful goodbye to our Worship Coordinator Kenny Hadden and his family as they moved to Oregon. God was faithful in providing us with two exceptional music leaders in Karee Miller-Jaeger and Laura Huckin as they lead us in worship on Sundays. On Christmas Eve we reached a new milestone as we touched over 1,000 people through our candlelight services at PCJH and Teton Village. JOY Summer Camp was officially accredited as part of the American Camp Association as we continue to increase the quality of our program as a summer outreach to our community. Our youth and young adult ministry teams hosted a Growing Young weekend event to inspire our congregation to consider how we can be a thriving intergenerational church that welcomes and engages young people. Megan Walker joined us as our summer fellow through our partnership with Whitworth University. The mission team generously gave time, talent and treasure (over $175,000) to 19 different partner organizations and programs that are seeking to see lives being transformed in Jesus Christ through mission and outreach. We started a new partnership with A Christian Ministry in the National Parks (ACMNP) in order to provide weekly worship services at the summit of the Bridger Gondola at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, in addition to providing daily outreach to employees through the ministry leaders of ACMNP. Our employee housing task force made great strides in its due diligence of potential options for

We are live-streaming our 10:15am service on the PCJH YouTube channel, making our services available to a much wider audience. In 2019, sermons touched on a wide range of topics, including lessons from the life of David, the spiritual disciplines, the great commission, close encounters with Christ, At Home in the World, sabbatical reflections, an overview of the first part of Acts, and the prologue to the Gospel of John. Our pastors continually challenge us to think outside ourselves as we digest and interpret scripture, learning what it means to

ongregational Life continues to be a vital part of our thriving church. The winter Cross Country Ski Group continues to be popular along with the meal and fellowship shared after skiing. Average attendance is 20 skiers and led once again by Ed and Patricia Scott. Congregational Life Team paired up events offered by the Jackson Hole community with anyone from our church who wanted to attend as a group in friendship. February we met for pizza followed by a free Valentine’s Concert by Cathedral Voices and Jackson Jazz Ensemble at the Center for the Arts. A mixed group of singles and families all met at a specified location for one of the Jackson Hole Live Concerts and shared some blankets and dance moves. Staff and Church Members participated in the 4th of July Parade this year. One of our church buses, all decked out for the holiday, drove while bubbles flew from the windows and walkers held posters announcing all the church programs. During the doldrums of early spring, a Hole Bowl Party was offered for adults and we were surprised at the number of hidden bowling talents. As is customary, we honored Mothers and Fathers with flowers and our traditional Annual Ice Cream Sundae Bar. The GARDEN OF EATIN’ continues to open our space for community gardeners. There are 12 individual plots in the garden. Relationships and building our community of faith continues to be an emphasis in all that we do. We ended the year with having all staff, deacons, elders and spouses celebrate the Christmas Season together!

hildren’s ministry is flourishing at PCJH under the leadership of our children’s ministry team and staff, who are devoted to serve our community’s children and their families so that they may know and experience the love of Jesus. This past year the focus was on creating a sustainable structure to our volunteering system and provide ways for parents to participate in children’s programs at PCJH. The creation of the CM Ambassadors roles will help families involve themselves in our programs, provide a voice for the parents, and help with volunteer recruitment. Quarterly parent mixer events were also implemented to provide parents a chance to interact and learn from each other as well as get excited about the future of children’s ministry. We at PCJH believe that the future of our church resides in our children and the relationships and connections our children make with our congregation which result not just in the children’s spiritual growth but everyone’s growth in Jesus Christ. Please consider how you will participate in the spiritual growth of our children at PCJH.

e continued to focus on youth and young adults in 2019. As a church, we immersed ourselves in the Growing Young research from Fuller Youth Institute. Staff, Session and both the Youth Ministry and Young Adult Ministry teams started living into key strategies to help us grow young. Highlights from the year include:

uilding on the momentum from last year, 2019 was a real launch year. A faithful Young Adult Ministry team was created to reimagine the purpose of this arm of our church body. We believe that the young adult ministry at PCJH exists that young adults may find their identity in God’s grace, their belonging in God’s love and their purpose in God’s mission. A dynamic community of young adults galvanized over the course of the year actively engaging in fellowship, study and adventure.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor With the hope to move from being a church with small groups to a church of small groups, the small group ministry team crafted their new mission statement: To engage people in small groups through transformational relationships, study, prayer, and service. With trained facilitators, PCJH launched 8 different groups (women, men, couples, singles, intergenerational), each one based on the weekly scripture from the sermon. Over 50 people joined groups this year.

A community-wide women’s Bible study lead by Deborah Buckingham in which about 65 women participated. PCJH hosted the annual Women’s Christmas luncheon at which about 250 women came.

eacon ministries
PCJH deacons comprise of 17 dedicated people who serve as the caring arm of the church. They largely work behind the scenes providing meals to the those in need, visiting the sick, preparing and serving communion, and praying for the congregation. Most of us are incredibly busy, and we can often miss the opportunity to care for members and friends who may be going through an illness, a family tragedy, or a financial crisis. At those times, deacons step forward in an organized way to marshal the love and concern of the whole congregation to help people in whatever way they can.
2019 Highlights included the following: • A Deacon Sunday where members of the congregation were invited to join deacon teams. • At Christmas, the collection of hats and mittens for the Head Start program. • Habitat Build Day • A prayer vigil for the Pascal family before their sabbatical trip.

he Administration Office continues to be the frontline for all who enter and call-in to the Presbyterian Church of Jackson Hole. They are the gatekeepers for information, direction, and connection! Coordination of building rentals; church events; Music Academy registration; countless volunteer opportunities; quarterly Belong class; written and verbal communication; welcoming new attenders and visitors; setting up the sanctuary and lobby for Sunday worship; hosting Wednesday Dinners; assisting with all church committees including session and the board of deacons; and any other administrative duty you can think of all begin at the hub of our front administration office. We are constantly looking for new faces and energy to be part of the church’s ministry -whether it be filling in at the front office; being a lay reader during our Sunday worship services; or serving on ANY of committees. Just let the front office know how we can help you find that spot here, to be plugged in. A change in our lobby this past year was our move to magnetic nametags and boards for people to use in hopes of building that face recognition to people you see here worshipping on Sunday mornings. We are all called to be disciples of Jesus Christ and hospitality is part of that outreach of grace. Need a nametag – please let us know! With so many new technology tools in place we strive to continue to update and manage our church website, Peak at the Week weekly email, database updates, Instant Church Directory, and live streaming of services. Do not forget our mailings that include this Annual Report, Quarterly Pinnacle Publication and all pertinent mailings that are generated by the church. Our prayer chain has 101 Prayer Partners who are committed to lift people up to God through prayer with requests that come in via our website, phone calls to the office or emails sent to office@pcjh.org These requests are generated by someone who gives the church permission to ask for prayers. We also love to celebrate with you through this prayer ministry and give thanks to God for all His glory and faithfulness.

uildings and Grounds Ministry includes the church building and grounds as well as pastor housing and vehicles. This ministry is responsible for maintenance and operation of, and improvements to, the property and facilities as a sacred and safe place. Volunteers contributed over 1,300 hours as the church’s Fix-It Crew” who were involved in spring clean-up, installing new playground equipment for toddlers, exterior staining, fixing walkway lights, roof shoveling, walkway clearing plant and tree care and so much more. There are some special occasions when PCJH needs more than regular care and cleaning. The parking lot was sealed and re-striped. Leaks occurred at several locations at the wall-ceiling interface due to ice damming and subsequent melting at the eaves. Removal of snow and ice from the eaves was accomplished frequently starting in March. Interior damage was significant in six locations and the roof was inspected and repaired by Wind River Roofing that included removing shingles and underlayment. Deficiencies related to original construction of the

church expansion (2006 – 2008) were identified. Increased shoveling to prevent ice-damming is the short-term remedy with a new roof (with some potential re-design) as the long-term remedy. In service to the community - our facility hosted Cathedral Voices weekly rehearsals, Special Olympics Basketball Practice, Commercial kitchen uses, JH Police motorcycle practices twice a year in the parking lot, Teton County Geologists, Teton County Library, Teton County Planning, Indian Trails HOA meetings, Various Community fundraisers, Holiday Craft Fair, Christmas Concerts for JH Classical Academy, Mountain Academy and JH Chorale!! PCJH is in its fifth year of hosting Centra daVida Christina worship services! e have a phenomenal staff at PCJH. Everyone loves Jesus, is exceptional at what they do, and we all enjoy working together. The most notable change in staffing occurred in our worship and music department as Kenny Hadden moved to Oregon and we welcomed Karee Miller-Jaeger as our praise band coordinator and Laura Huckin as our choir director. God is so faithful in the midst of transitions! The staff did an exceptional job while Pastor Ben was away on sabbatical as they seamlessly continued the work of the church in the midst of the senior pastor’s three-month absence. A few months after Ben’s return, the PCJH fulltime staff had a one-day retreat at a church member’s ranch near Hoback Canyon in October for team building and long range planning.

Please be sure to encourage our employees as they give so much of their time and energy to the work of ministry through PCJH. Our personnel team stays busy with personnel transitions, performance reviews, personnel manual changes, refining job descriptions, ensuring all employees receive adequate compensation and continuing education opportunities, and making sure we all have fun and enjoy being a team! Through our budgeting process we have carefully allocated resources across departments to ensure we are funded for the ministry and mission God has called us to through PCJH. Here are a few highlights from 2019 in regard to finances: • We have no debt, a balanced budget, and funding for ongoing and future ministry. • After years of allocating $5,000/year to a roof reserve fund, we have increased it to $10,000 for 2020 due to earlier than anticipated roof repairs. As of December 31, 2019 the roof reserve is in a restricted account with a total of $350,238. • We started a rainy day fund four years ago to ensure that our ministry and mission continues despite economic recessions or other unforeseen crises. six months of covered operating expenses. As of December 31, 2019 we have $52,760 in a deferred account from the Sullivan Bequest. Session has decided to keep this money available for special projects and initiatives that fall outside our normal budgeting process. Our actual expenses for 2019 came in over budget by $56,197 but fortunately our tithes and offerings for 2019 came in above target so we were able to finish the year, by God’s grace, with a $32,383 surplus. Session decided to tithe 10% of the surplus, $3,238, to future mission projects, and to fund our depleted buildings and grounds maintenance reserve account with $19,227 and our depleted deacon fund account with $9,918, effectively prepaying some expenses we expect to incur in 2020. Our goal is to continue to have the financial strength to do whatever ministry the Lord calls us to do in order to see lives being transformed in Jesus Christ.
