Location: LoDo, Denver Year: Senior year fall semester Type: Individual Length: 12 weeks Programs: Project Responsibilities: schematics, researching the site, space planning, revit work, three dimensional modeling, finish selection, packaging.

Project Description: Design a boutique hotel in a warehouse space located in LoDo, Denver. The hotel should reflect the historical elements and culture of the area, yet, it should remain true to the original building. The floorplan of the space was given, and the programming document required a lobby with grab and go area, a restaurant and bar space, back of house offices, a retail space, and several guest rooms, one being ADA accessible.

Cottonwood Restaurant and Bar will incorporate the mid-century modern feel from the hotel lobby throughout the space. It will have low, warm lighting that will evoke a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere as if inviting guests to stay longer. A mix of multiple textures such as quartz, wooden beams and dropped wood ceilings, exposed brick walls, and brass will add to the feedling of warmth when combined with the rich textiles integrated throughout the space.

KIOSK DESIGN Project Statement and Info Glory Bound is a restaurant located in Hattiesburg, MS, with other locations in Ocean Springs, MS and Tuscaloosa, AL. The menu is mainly Greek food such as gyros, hummus, pita bread, and many different varieties of salads including the Greek salad. The atmosphere of the location in Hattiesburg has an industrial feel, yet clean as the bar area contains glossy white subway tiles lining the back wall.

The Glory Bound kiosk will retain the main restaurant location’s sense of modernism with the simple finishes and sleek, open metal design. It will also incorporate similar industrial aspects of the restaurant via the lighting choices, which mimic the restaurant’s fixtures, the natural wood at the point-of-sale area, and the rusty red color of the structure. The wooden columns also add an industrial feel as well, in addition to giving the kiosk warmth and additional style. The Greeks believe they need to ward off evil during the wedding, and blue is the color that they use to keep it away (“Greek Wedding Traditions”, 2014) The traditional Greek wedding is separated into two separate ceremonies, the first is called the “betrothal” (“Our Wedding Ceremony”). During the betrothal the couple exchanges their rings with each other. During the second part of the ceremony, titled the “crowning”, the bride and groom each receive their crown which are tied together with a ribbon. The crowns are a very important part of the Greek wedding (“Our Wedding Ceremony”). The guests are also allowed to pray for them during this part of the ceremony if they choose to, and the couple walks around a center table which holds two white candles, a cross, and the Holy Gospel. Each time they circle around the table the couple kisses the cross. The reason for repeating the walk three times is that it symbolizes the old becoming something new (“Our Wedding Ceremony”) After they finish walking around the table, their crowns are blessed and then they are removed from their heads (“Greek Wedding Traditions”, 2014). During the ceremony, the bride and groom do not exchange any vows with each other (“Greek Wedding Traditions”, 2014).

After the ceremony, the Greeks like to celebrate by smashing plates and dancing (“Greek Wedding Traditions”, 2014). They also believe that odd numbers are lucky, and therefore give out almonds in groups of five as favors after the wedding (“Greek Wedding Traditions”, 2014). Rice is also thrown at the couple as they are leaving after the wedding.

To design an event space that reflects the historical traditions of the Greek culture.

To design an event that incorporates the traditional Greek colors, for example blue which they believe “wards off evil”.
