hat amazing driving weather we have been having! Yes, it is hot, but most of our Porsches have air conditioning so we can comfortably enjoy our cars. Norma and I are enjoying the Greek Islands, but we heard that there was an amazing turnout at the New Member Picnic where new members and seasoned members were able to connect while enjoying hamburgers and hot dogs. Whenever we meet, it always amazes me what a great collection of Porsches are owned by our members. Another amazing drive is in store thanks to Jay Stephenson and his team. The La Quinta Tour is scheduled for October 24th and in addition to some wonderful twisties, includes dinner and an overnight stay. If you have not yet gone on one of these drives, you really need to and you need to hurry up and book your stay as there are only a few rooms left. There will be a waitlist if the event is fully booked.
Looking for an opportunity to see some modified Porsches? You are in luck as PCA is hosting ÜnSTOCK in our Region at the Huntington Beach Pier. As you may know, ÜnSTOCK vehicles must have at least three visible modifications and be selected by PCA. Speaking of driving opportunities, in November, Paul Shaffer will be leading the "Seeing Double Tour." Be on the lookout for more information and how to sign up.

This year is going by fast and before you know it our Holiday Party will be happening on December 6th. Registration opened September 1 and if you have not already done so, you can register at www.msreg.com/pcaocr26. As always, you can count on an awesome silent auction and a gift for all those who attend. Lastly, don’t forget our Annual Toy Drive on December 12th in Huntington Beach. Each year our membership has demonstrated their generosity, and I am sure that will continue this year. We look forward to seeing everyone at the October meeting and on the La Quinta overnight drive. Let us continue to make PCA-OCR a special part of our Porsche experience. Participate, volunteer and let the ride bring a huge smile to your face! Jim Miller PCA-OCR President

s you’ll see in the introduction to this month’s issue, photography means a great deal to me. It captures the moments we want to remember. The beginnings, the milestones, and the ordinary days that later become extraordinary simply because they are gone. As our family celebrates new life, we find ourselves taking more pictures than ever. But this month also reminded me of photography’s other gift: its ability to bring us back to what we have lost. On September 15th, my wife and I said a very difficult goodbye to our furbaby of more than 12 years, Kneesaa. She was aptly named after Princess Kneesaa from the Ewoks cartoons. She looked a little like an Ewok, occasionally sounded like one, and certainly lived up to the “princess” part of her name. She knew exactly what she wanted, often took charge, and was always by our side. Kneesaa was more than a pet to us. She was family, a best friend, and a constant presence through some of the happiest and most difficult chapters of our lives. Over the past few weeks, we have found ourselves going through years of photographs. Remembering her expressions, her quirks, the things that made us laugh, and all those little moments we might otherwise have forgotten. Those photographs have brought us back to a love we didn’t even know we were capable of before she came into our lives. There is comfort in knowing that saying goodbye hurts this much because we loved her this much. And there is even greater comfort in knowing that she knew how deeply she was loved. Our lives are richer because Kneesaa was part of them. Thank you for allowing me to use this little corner of PANDO to remember her. And perhaps this month, as you enjoy the photographs throughout these pages, take a few extra pictures of the people, pets, cars, and moments you love. Someday, you may be very glad you did. Through Our Lenses: The PANDO Photography Issue
T
is one of my favorite issues we put together each year. Of course, I probably say that about every issue, but there are a few that are especially meaningful to me, and our Photography Issue is definitely one of them. My love of photography started almost accidentally. Back in high school, I needed to choose an elective and decided to take a photography class. I had barely touched a film camera before, but my dad recommended it. The other popular choice was pottery, and since I wasn’t particularly interested in getting my hands dirty, photography seemed like the better option. I had no idea how much I would love it. There was something exciting about loading a roll of film, searching for the right light, finding an interesting subject, and trying to capture exactly what I saw in my head. But my teacher, Mr. Quay at Edison High School in Huntington Beach, pushed us beyond simply taking pictures. He taught us to think about perspective, framing, color, context, light, and all the little elements that can turn a snapshot into something more. He helped turn us from point-and-shooters into artists; or at least taught us to start thinking like artists. And then came the darkroom. There was something almost magical about taking an image you had composed through the viewfinder and watching it slowly appear in front of you. You weren't just taking a photograph; you were creating something from beginning to end. What I never could have known at the time was how much photography would shape the rest of my life. I continued shooting for years, eventually sharing my photography online. A girl I was interested in, who happened to live in another state, saw my work, liked what she saw, and reached out. Eighteen years later, that girl is my wife. So yes, photography has been pretty important to me. But I think photographs become even more valuable as time passes. They are little records of what we noticed, what mattered to us, and what we wanted to remember. Sometimes the photograph that seems completely ordinary today becomes priceless years later. One image can suddenly bring back a place, a person, a car, a road trip, or an entire chapter of your life.
8 That PANDO | October is why I love 2026 this issue.
As you turn these pages, you aren't simply looking at beautiful Porsches. You are seeing small pieces of someone else's story. You are seeing what caught their eye, what made them stop, and what they thought was worth preserving. For some, it may be the perfect light across a favorite Porsche. For others, it might be a track day, a road trip, an old family photograph, or simply a car sitting in the driveway. Each one is a moment in time. So take your time with this issue. Enjoy the cars, the scenery, the artistry, and most importantly, the stories behind the images. We're fortunate to get a glimpse through someone else's lens, and to share in a little bit of their pride and joy along the way. Enjoy!

My Teen Dream
Stuttgart Market Letter
A
Report by David K. Whitlock
fter two consecutive months of declining sell-through rates, August steadied the ship and brought plenty of money with it. Online auctions generated $65.5m from 745 Porsches on offer, with 73% finding new homes. That’s a 9% increase in dollar volume over July despite eight fewer cars crossing the block and an unchanged sell-through rate (STR). Compared to August of last year, dollar volume jumped 67%, unit volume rose 22%, and STR edged up one percentage point. But of course, all eyes were on Monterey. With $75.3m in sales from 152 Porsches on offer and a 77% STR, Monterey delivered a 38% increase in dollar volume over last year’s $54.5m, while unit volume climbed 27% and STR jumped nine percentage points. More cars, more money, and a greater percentage finding buyers made for quite an August.
North Houston’s 2025 Classic Restoration Challenge winner, and win it did, bringing $351,500. A staggering number for a 996.2 GT3. Another impressive 996 result came from a 2002 911 Turbo Coupe with a 6-speed, the X50 package, and just 5,386 miles that sold for $280,000.
The top of the market wasn’t the usual Carrera GT and 918 Spyder show, with just three Carrera GTs and two 918s crossing the block in August. Instead, the big news came from Porsche’s race cars of the 1950s and ’60s, a group that has struggled to put sales on the board in recent years. This time, the majority found new homes, although prices came in below estimates. Given how difficult this segment has been, that was probably to be expected. Leading the pack was a 1968 907 Langheck at Gooding that brought $3,305,000, but the one that shocked me was a 1958 550A that sold for just $1,545,000.
Further back in the 911 lineage, the classics delivered a strong 72% sell-through rate. Leading the charge were a pair of Carrera 2.7 RSs, a Touring at RM Sotheby’s that brought $896,000 and a Lightweight on Bring a Trailer that sold for $805,000. But my favorite was the 1967 911S Coupe “Por She” art car. Purchased in the mid-1980s by artist Dr. Phyllis Yes, its exterior was hand-painted with a three-dimensional lace-style design. It was exhibited at the Bernice Steinbaum Gallery in New York City before being driven across the country as a traveling exhibition in 1985. This very different kind of Porsche art brought $250,000.
RUFs were another surprise, with only three of the seven on offer finding buyers. But among those that sold was a 3400 S, RUF’s take on the 986 Boxster with a 3.4-liter engine mounted midship, that brought a very impressive $220,000. While the RUF results were mixed, the 918s and Carrera GTs continued to command strong prices, and Singers appeared to hold fairly steady.
Not to be outdone, the 356 market delivered a strong 76% sellthrough rate. Monterey had plenty of special 356s on offer, but none more special than the 1952 356 America Roadster. The brainchild of American importer Max Hoffman, just 16 were built, with only 10 known to survive. Finished in Ivory over Green leather, this example is the only one known to have been fitted with a racing-style fuel filler from new. It brought $2,205,000.
Among the modern 911s, Monterey was missing the usual GT3 RS 4.0, but that didn’t stop us from getting a million-dollar 997. That honor went to a 2011 GT2 RS finished in Carrara White over Black that hammered at $1,100,000. Last month brought our first 997.1 GT3 in quite some time, but August brought out five, with an 8,000-mile example in Black selling for $253,250. That’s a healthy jump over the $200,000 average we’ve seen over the past two months. But the most surprising GT3 sale belonged to a 996. Finished in Speed Yellow and showing just 9,700 miles, this car was Porsche
August gave us plenty to talk about, from strong online results to renewed buying activity among vintage race cars at Monterey. Now the question is how much of that momentum carries into September. With Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas and Mecum Nashville on the calendar, we’ll see whether buyers still have room in their garages, and their budgets, after quite a month. .David K. Porsche Learning and Discovery in
T
Story and Photos by Lou Leto here are some nearby opportunities that just might be unique discoveries of seldom-seen, yet fierce Porsche warriors with Le Mans history. Nestled in the nearly 100-car collection at the Marconi Automotive Museum in Tustin is their lone competition Porsche. The attention to weight savings is immediately noted by the Porsche shield (in sticker form) on the nose. The Kremer windshield banner gives pause. A very rare racer, this CK5 is one of only two created and crafted in the Cologne shop by famed Kremer brothers, racers who independently campaigned Porsches in a variety of series. It was built in 1983 for Group C prototype endurance racing, influenced by the 908/03 and has an assortment of 936 and 917 Porsche underpinnings attached to an aluminum spaceframe. Power is a 2.1L flat-fan twin-turbo 935-type engine, with a 4-speed transmission. A more recognizable Porsche, recently added to the museum floor, is a Carrera GT in bright yellow, a seldom-seen color on this model.
26 PANDO | October 2026
Orange County
Just two miles away is a special on-loan exhibit at the Jordan Family Classic Cars Museum in Santa Ana. It’s courtesy of comedian Adam Corolla, who has set a personal goal to accumulate actor and formidable racer Paul Newman’s competition car history. Corolla has acquired and curated a dozen of “Newman’s own:” a dozen significant race cars that
follows the evolution of Newman’s racing career that started in 1972 at age 47. Three are Porsches. The earliest is a 1974 911 S that he placed 30th in ’77 in the 12 hours of Sebring. The most significant Porsche of the display is a 935, equipped with a twin-turbo engine and “upside-down gearbox” that Newman (a Le Mans rookie) and his co-drivers placed 2nd overall (and 1st in IMSA Group 5 class) in the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1979. Later, this car (serial no. 009 030) went on racing with other owners, and is claimed as having the most competition miles of any Porsche racing car. It is also the most expensive Porsche ever sold at auction. So, choose a Porsche from whatever historical category to see up close for learning and discovery: slightly obscure, race winner, most dominant 911-based at Le Mans, most racing miles, celebrity status, or most dollars bid. All can be seen at impressive museums without leaving Orange County. October 2026 | PANDO 27
