By now everyone should be aware of the ESCAPE to the CAPE event that is coming up on August 20 to the 23. This event organized by Rick Veingrad, has grown to become far ahead of what it was originally expected to be. The original concept was our usual type of overnight event, we meet at a starting point and as a group drive to a hotel. Once there, we enjoy a great dinner and great companionship as we enjoy the evening. Next day it is usually breakfast and then head for home. Fun, but nothing out of the usual. The Escape is vastly different!

Our starting point will be at Porsche of West Broward. In the past it was usually a mad scramble of cars trying to exit a parking lot in confusion, attempting to stay together in the face of oncoming traffic. That confusion has been eliminated, with the Escape. The cars will be organized from the time you arrive at the dealership, where you will be assigned a number and will be parked in order of your exit. The cars will exit the dealership in the same order thus eliminating the confusion. SPEED LIMITS WILL BE STRICTLY OBSERVED!

The Group will make the run-up Interstate 75 to Ft Myers, where we will stop to enjoy lunch at the Boathouse Tiki Bar & Grill in Ft Myers. After lunch, the Group will continue the short distance to the Westin Resort. This resort is one of the biggest changes made to this event. The Western Resort is a true resort in every sense of the term. In doing the pre running for the Escape I visited the resort and was extremely impressed. The grounds were immaculate, there are plenty of covered and uncovered parking, the pool is beautiful, and of course great bars onsite. But more important than those things, the staff was willing to bend over backwards to accommodate our Group and that is what you want in a resort.

You may have heard about a car show that we will be having at the Escape. This will be the Porsche Love Car Show at the Escape. This event is not a Concours event. It’s a laid-back salute to the car we all love and are proud to own. Judging will be not only on the display of cars at the hotel, but on who demonstrates to me their knowledge and enjoyment of their car. All weekend I will be observing from Lunch to the dinner on Saturday, show me how you love your Porsche and win an award, Everyone that registered for the Escape is already entered in the event and eligible for awards for first thru third place in both cars and SUV’s.

Did I mention the Prime Rib Surf and Turf Dinner that we will be having at the Waterfront Bar and Bistro at the hotel? Not only do we feed your love for cars, but we take care of your love for food also.

Last but not the least is the Raffle that will be held. Great prizes will be given away, but the best is the two Porsche Experience trips that will go to two lucky winners.

As I said at the beginning of this article, this event is different, we have really broken out and ESCAPED.

Your Club needs you, taking pictures, writing articles, volunteering at events, and creating new events. Whatever skill or knowledge you have, bring it on. We can turn it into content for this magazine so it can be shared with all the members. You can contact anyone on the Board of Directors through the Kassette and they will be happy to help turn your skill into Club Reality.

Gold Coast Stickers

When you joined PCA you received a windshield sticker that identified you as a member of the Porsche Club of America. It is a simple way to show your pride in your car and in the Club and allowed you to be easily recognized by other PCA members. Unfortunately, that sticker never identified the region you belonged to. A couple of months ago, the idea of creating a similar sticker that could be displayed depicting the Gold Coast Region Symbol. Well due to the hard work of several Board members, including Christy Spangler and Ian Gerada, that Gold Coast Region Sticker now exists. We are proud to provide every member in our region with this new symbol of the region to display next to the PCA Sticker. Each GCR member will receive the new region sticker as below this month in the Kassette. I would like to thank all the Board Members that gave their talents to make this happen. Remember Porsche Club of America, it’s not only about the cars, it’s about the people.
