ECO MUTATIONS OF INFRASTRUCTURES towards an integrated and sustainable “grayscape Eco Mutations of Infrastructure is a project that attempts to turn gray infrastructure into green and blue infrastructure, help clearing the pollution, as well as providing a self-sufficient environment in the city of Hunts Point. The design is projected far into the future, where flood becomes a main problem for the city of New York. The project is designed to embrace the problematic issue of flood rather than prevent and avoid it. The form of the design is derived from a 500 year floodline introduce by FEMA. In addition to the attempt to protect the existing Food Distribution District that is the gem of Hunts Point, an island is created. This island performs as an isolated work area for food related production, handling the packaging and distribution of the products to the rest of New York City and more. This is so that the industrial activity does not cause a disruption to the rest of the city, while still connected to the city by three connecting bridges strictly dedicated to: vehicle, tramway, and pedestrian.
