PHI BETA SIGMA RENEWS COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION THROUGH THE HOWARD ENDOWD SCHOLARSHIP

hi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to educational advancement by deepening its historic partnership with Howard University, the birthplace of the fraternity. On October 21, 2025, Hon. Brother David A. Turner, International President, executed an amendment to the Endowed Scholarship Fund Gift Agreement originally established in honor of the fraternity’s Centennial Anniversary.

The Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Endowed Fund, fully funded on April 21, 2022 with the Fraternity’s fulfillment of a $500,000 pledge, is administered by Howard University to provide meaningful scholarship support to deserving students.

Under the amended terms, four students in good academic standing who demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Office of Financial Aid, will be selected annually. The Fund’s accrued interest is distributed equally among the recipients, with awards made without consideration of age, race, color, national origin, sex, religion, or disability.

In recognition of the Fraternity’s enduring connection to Howard University, at least two of the four scholarships are reserved for qualified members of Alpha Chapter, the Fraternity’s founding chapter. The remaining awards are granted to eligible students who meet the established criteria, regardless of fraternity affiliation.

The 2025 scholarship recipients are Bro. Amaar Zarrieff (Senior), Bro. Abel Yonas (Senior), Bro. Hunter Holley (Junior), and Bro. Miles Suitt (First Year Law). Bro. Dr. Emmanuel Rowe, International Director of Education, praised the significance of the amended agreement, noting, “This partnership with Howard University represents more than a financial commitment; it reflects our shared belief in nurturing scholars who will shape the future. By expanding access and refining the criteria, we are ensuring that the legacy of Phi Beta Sigma continues to open doors for those who strive for excellence. Investing in students is investing in our nation’s progress.”

PHI BETA SIGMA AND THE PBS IMPACT FOUNDATION LAUNCH LEADERS OF THE FUTURE SCHOLARSHIP The PBS Impact Foundation, in collaboration with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., has announced the inaugural recipients of its Leaders of the Future Scholarship. This program invests in high-potential students who demonstrate academic promise, character, and a commitment to the community. $10,000 has been awarded in scholarships for this year.

Created to help students start strong and stay on track, The Leaders of the Future Scholarship provides flexible support for tuition, books, and essential academic expenses. The joint program reflects a shared commitment to education, mentorship, and opportunity.

“Education is threaded in the reason why our fraternity was created,” noted Brother Dr. Emmanuel Rowe, International Director of Education. “We’re proud to collaborate with PBS Impact Foundation to recognize

and support students who are already demonstrating leadership in the classroom and their communities.”

In addition to financial assistance, recipients are connected to a network of mentors and allies across the PBS Impact Foundation and Phi Beta Sigma communities. That ecosystem, built on service, leadership, and accountability, helps students navigate academic milestones, career exploration, and opportunities for giving back.

“These scholars represent the promise of what happens when talent meets timely support,” said Brother Justin Gibson, Chairman of the PBS Impact Foundation. “From finance to history to computer science, their interests are diverse, but their impact will be common: strengthening communities, leading with purpose, and setting a standard for those who come after them.”

In North Carolina, Bro. Malcolm Richbourg was elected to the Thomasville City School Board, where he brings a commitment to equitable access, student success, and thoughtful community engagement. In Ohio, Bro. Charles Newman secured a seat on the Pickerington School Board, offering a strong voice for academic excellence, family partnership, and data-driven decision-making in one of the state’s fastest-growing districts.
